《Undeniably Claimed》Chapter 58: Best "Man"

Luca straightened out the tux as the man near his leg was pinning a certain spot. His eyes focused on the material as he gazed at himself in the mirror. He could only imagine how this was for Sophia a few weeks ago. His mother had come one morning claiming she was stealing her soon to be daughter. Sophia looked adorable as my aunt and sister dragged her from our home. I couldn't have helped but laughed at her expression that day. From what I was told, it was a fun day for all.
"How does that feel Mr. Sanford?"
Luca nodded his head in reply as the bell above the door dinged. The man stood up ready to go to the new client while Luca kept tugging at the jacket in attempts to straighten it. He wanted this day to be perfect. He was acting crazier than Sophia. They went cake testing and she was very simple in her choice as where he wanted to try everything. They decided on a simple marveled cake with a white buttercream icing. Sophia laughed at him multiple times at how picky he was that day.
She gave up on the day of choosing the food and told him 'what ever you decide is fine'. He felt irritated that she wasn't opinionated enough however when he voiced it- She had become a second him resulting in them not getting anything accomplished. It was quite funny now thinking about it all.
He was glad that the wedding was in one week. They had decided to have it at his childhood home. His mom was elated and happy to host. Both deciding that close family and friends would only be invited. Sophia didn't want a lavish reception with people that didn't matter to her. She had invited her boss, the editor and chief of TIMES. Luca was happy to meet the man that had continued to take care of his Tesoro.
Almost everything was in place, the only thing left to do was for Luca to choose his Best Man. Jessica was of course be the maid of honor and surprisingly Sophia had asked Brad to walk her down the isle which resulted in him crying hysterically. Luca has never been really to close to certain people but he had realized who it was that he relied on as of lately and had decided to ask for them to come today to meet him.
"It's perfect Boss Man. Stop tugging at it!"
He turned around with a brow raised as Taylor stood there with her hands on her hips. The little spit fire was grinning smugly at him. He rolled his eyes turning back to the mirror one last time. He could hear her heels click on the step leading to the platform. He felt her adjust the back of the jacket once before running her hands of his shoulders brushing it off. She then rounded him on the platform as she focused on the tuxedo.
He had asked Sophia what she thought of the idea and she immediately loved it. It was true that when Sophia was sick, or for any reason he was out, Taylor would step up to the plate. She had helped his dad keep the meetings in order while still handling her role in finance. She was a god send to Luca and he realized that she was irreplaceable . Taylor was naturally a head strong woman but was also kind hearted. She worked for everything she got and refuse to bend to others. It was a remarkable set of traits to have.

Taylor moved back off the steps as she stood against the mirror with a gentle smile and an affirmative head nod before looking to Luca. "It looks wonderful Luca."
"I appreciate but I hadn't asked you here for the tux."
Taylor raises a brow but before Luca can continue, the tailor comes back telling him he can change. Luca nodded walking back into the dressing room as he changed back into his own suit. He walked out of the room and found Taylor sitting on a couch near the front of the shop. He handed the tux over to the tailor thanking him before heading over to Taylor. She put her phone away ready to stand but stopped mid way as Luca sat beside her. Her body slowly sitting back down on the couch.
"You're scaring me boss man. If you're about to fire me, this is a shitty way to do it."
Luca chuckles shaking his head side to side. "We both know, I couldn't fire you not only because Sophia would hang me... You're essential to the company."
Taylor looks down to her lap trying to hide the warm smile on her lips. It's nice to hear that he appreciates her and values her. Clearing her throat she looks back up at him. "Well then, how can I help?"
"I'm sure you can tell that I am not close to too many people outside of my family." Luca thinks for a moment turning his gaze to the window. Taylor continues to look at him while she waits. After a moment of silence, Luca turns back to her. "I couldn't trust anyone, everyone wanted something out of me."
"Being who you are, I can understand that." Taylor says gently. She may not experience it, but being a figure in the publics eye would have to be daunting.
"I think I can count on one hand the amount of people outside my family I can trust.. So then that leads me to wonder who I want to be standing beside me on the most important day of my life." He flicks his eyes to Taylor whose have widen slightly. "This leads me to you."
Taylor sits there stunned. That was certainly not what she thought she was being called for today. She opened her mouth a few times but nothing would come out. Luca chuckled at her as he stood up straightening out his suit. He held out his hand for Taylor who took it still trying to comprehend what his was saying.
"You-You want me to be your best man?" She asks stuttering.
"Well, I think best woman would be the more accurate description but yes." Luca gives a firm head nod.
Taylor had to bite back the urge to cry in front of him. She grinned widely as her eyes swelled but refused to let them drop. Luca couldn't help but smile at her expression. Taylor couldn't help but wrap the 'cold' boss in a bear hug as she squealed making Luca chuckle and pat her back. After a moment, she left him but was still grinning like a mad woman.
"I would be honored." He gave a head nod and smirked.
"Can I ask you a question?" He gave a head nod in response. "Why not your brother?"
He sighed as he opened the door. Taylor stepped out first followed by him. They both began walking back to the cars in step. "I thought about it, I even thought about my uncles... The one person I wanted to ask is no longer an option."

The heaviness of his words makes Taylor know it was someone of great importance to Luca. Trying to lighten the mood, she bumps his side. "Well I am glad I was a solid replacement. I won't let you down."
He smirked turning his gaze down to her, "I have no doubt."
They walked the rest of the way in silence. Luca's car parked next to hers. Luca goes to climb in but Taylor's voice halts him.
"He would have been proud of you."
Luca slowly turns his body around as she leans her forearm on the roof of her car looking at him. Her features holding understanding. "Whoever he was that you wanted to be by your side, he would be proud of the man you've become."
She gives him a small smile before climbing into her car leaving Luca standing there mulling over her words. He doesn't move even as she pulls out of the park lot. After a moment he takes a deep breath and climbs back into the car. His mind going back to his uncle as it has so often lately. Ever since that letter from Chris, he had wanted to open his own but never could. The knowledge of knowing this is the last thing he will ever get from Nicholas stops him every time.
Luca drove to the office in deep thought. Arriving back at the office, he found Sophia's desk empty figuring she went to visit her sister. He goes into his office closing the door before turning around to the white envelope that has set on his desk for far too long. Taking another deep breath he strides to his desk throwing his keys down on top along with his phone. His hand slowly reaching for the letter with the familiar writing.
He hesitates before sitting down at his desk and turning it over. Opening the final present he will be gifted by his uncle. He sets the envelope to the side and begins to open the letter, a picture slides out that he caught. His heart beating erratically as he finds a picture of himself and Nicholas in his hands.
It was faded and creased showing it's age. He could not have been more than 7 years old in the photo. Luca was standing next to Nicholas with protective gear on his ears. His arm wrapped around Nicholas' leg. His uncle stood with one hand on the side of Luca's head holding him to his leg and the other holding up an assault rifle. Both carrying happy smiles on their lips. They were at the army base and Luca was wearing an Army cap on his head.
Luca felt his tears well up just as he smiled at the photo. With shaky fingers, he set the photo to the side and reached for the letter. He took a shaky breath before he began.
Dear Luca,
I know you just started at your parent's company. I wanted to tell you how proud I am of you. When you were younger, you once told me you wanted to be an astronaut. Then it changed to a cop for some time. I tried keeping up on all your future plans but you were always changing your mind. When you were in high school, I could see how much the business world was pulling at you. I'm glad your mom and dad are their to help guide you. You will do great things, I have no doubts.
I'm aware that you are still upset about me coming back over here. It wasn't any easy decision and I want you to know that I understand why you are upset. Sitting here, all I can think about is you and Cami, and the rest of the gang. I wonder if Theo will finally be murdered by my sister. I wonder if you're mom is happy watching all you kids grow up. Most of all though, I think about you and how fucking lucky I am to have such a boy. I know your dad would probably shoot me for saying it but in my head, it's the truth... you're my boy. Grown ass and all.
Luca chuckled as the tears leaked out as he continued reading through blurry vision.
Family is everything, Luca. You were a huge part of mine. That is the reason I had decided to come back when you graduated. You're all grown up now and able to stand on your own. I can't say the same for the dip shits over here. The team is a bunch of knuckle heads but they are my men. As much as you needed me, they need me to. That is why I came. Some one has to keep them in order.
We'll be heading out soon and I am hoping that in the next month or so to be back in the States. It's been a long haul but thankfully we're getting closer to the end of ours. The men are ready to go home to their wives. I'll just be happy to see you again... and maybe Chris.
Keep safe Luca and be ready to deal with me soon enough! I'm ready for a day at the range with you. I think I've gotten better since being over here. Love you Luca!
Your favorite Uncle,
Nicholas
Closing his eyes tightly he leaned his head back on the back of the chair looking to the ceiling. He could feel the tears trailing down his cheeks but made no notion to stop them. His uncle loved him. He wished he could have told that he wasn't upset with him anymore. He was for some time but his aunt explained it to him. He only wished he could have said something sooner.
He hears a knock on his office door but doesn't bother answering. The click of the door is sounded but he doesn't move. The sound of heels click before a pair of soft hands he knows all to well cup his cheeks rubbing the fallen tears away. She doesn't say anything but just kisses his forehead leaving her lips on his skin. He drops the letter and finds his arms coiling around her pulling her onto his lap. His face becoming buried in her neck as he silently mourns the loss of his favorite uncle.
Sophia knew when she saw the door closed that something was up. Finding him in tears was not what she was expecting. Coming to his desk and finding a letter opened along with an old photo, she instantly understood. She was told a long time ago about this letter. Every time she came into his office, it was sitting there never appearing to be opened. That is until now.
She held onto Luca as he worked through all his emotions only hoping he found some closure from the letter.
