Lucas' POV
"I've collected the results I got from your urine sample and it shows that you are pregnant, Miss Garner,"
It felt like my heart stopped beating for a second the moment those words flew out of the month of the nurse in front of me. I didn't know how to feel about the report. I was mostly shocked at the news that I could barely form any words.
"Pregnant?"
I turned my head to look at Jackie. She was visibly shocked as I was. The nurse hummed and stretched out her hand that held a paper. Jackie reluctantly took it and glanced at it.
"You're three weeks pregnant," the nurse said. "Also, we'll need to have you registered at the hospital here for your checkups as your pregnancy progresses. There are also other options if you feel you don't want the pregnancy, from the way you reacted."
"Thank you, ma'am. Can we come back some other time, please?" Jackie asked and the nurse nodded before walking away.
I kept my eyes on Jackie as she stared at the paper. Her hands were shaking and her shoulders moved up and down, quickly. I stepped forward and held her chin. I felt her body go still to my touch. She raised her head and met my eyes. There was fear lingering in her eyes and it sparked concern in me.
"What are you thinking?" I asked and she looked around nervously.
"Lucas, I don't know. This is all too much for me to handle. I'm pregnant and... God, I need to be alone."
Jackie moved away from me and started walking away. I went after her and stood in front of her.
"Jackie, can we talk about this together?"
"Lucas, please. Step aside. I want to be alone right now. Please, let me think to myself. I'll come home later," Jackie said and walked away, leaving me feeling heavy-hearted.

I blame myself for being so careless. The one time I had sex without a condom, I impregnate my woman. Now, I felt bad because she would be going through a lot mentally, overthinking when she knows I can be there for her and help her if she wants to keep the baby.
I have seen myself with Jackie in the future, living together as husband and wife because I am so in love with her that I wanted our end game to be us married and a happily ever after with our children but pregnancy came too early.
I sighed and ruffled my hair then started at the people walking back and forth in the hallway. I needed to talk to someone about this because I knew nothing about pregnancies or planning one if Jackie kept the baby.
"Jackie," I whispered, feeling devasted.

I got home and saw no signs of Jackie. I didn't want to get too worried about her whereabouts as she wanted some time to herself but I was also worried still.
As I stood in the kitchen, thinking about the fact that we were going to be young parents, I heard a knock on the door. I glanced at it, eyebrows furrowed, and walked over to the door. I checked through the peephole and scowled at the person.
I turned around, prepared to ignore it, only for the knock to come again. I sighed and faced the door, then opened it.
"Hi," Maddy said and eyed Andrea who was standing beside her.
"Uh, hi?" Andrea said, glancing nervously at Maddy.
"Come in, Maddy," I said and she beamed before walking in. I glared at Andrea when she wanted to take a step forward. "Where do you think you're going?"
"I came to see Jackie," she said and I scoffed.

"She's not at home. Also, can you stop showing up at my place? Jackie and I don't exactly consider you as our friend," I said and she gulped with a nod of her head.
"Anyway, I have something for you. My dad asked me to bring this to you. I came here to talk to Jackie about it but since you're here, you can have it," Andrea said and searched her bag. She took out a file and handed it to me. "That contains some information about the boys who disappeared."
I blinked at the newfound information and found myself smiling. I looked at her and nodded my head.
"Thank you," I said and turned to leave.
"Wait," she said, making me look at her.
"What is it?" I was tired and needed to rest.
"Nothing. It's nothing," Andrea said and walked away.
I shrugged and closed the door then focused my attention on the file. I walked over to the living room where Maddy was and sat down beside her. She turned off the television she was watching and faced me.
"What's that?"
"Some information about the whereabouts of the boys who tried to rape Jackie," I answered and she turned her whole body.
"Axel told me some months ago about them vanishing. I even tried to have my dad pull up some of his connections so that they can be found but it's like they don't exist," Maddy said.
I was about to speak when the door opened, revealing a sullen-looking Jackie. She was staring at the floor with her hand holding the door. I stood up from the couch, and so did Maddy.
"Jackie?" I said and she looked up. "Are you okay?"
Jackie nodded. "Yeah... Maddy, thanks for coming."
"No problem. What is it you wanted to tell me anyway?" Maddy asked as she brushed past me.
"Can we talk up in the room, please?"
I felt sad that Jackie could not discuss with me what she was thinking. I understood that it was her body and every decision or feeling she had was right but I was her partner, I wanted to help and support her.
"Okay," Maddy said and I watched as they walked past me and up the stairs leading to the bedroom.
I sighed and sat down on the couch, only to feel the file crinkle under my butt. I pulled it out and brought it to my face. I flipped the file open and started to read the words on the paper.
After a minute, my eyes widened and I rose to my feet, feeling as if my heart dropped to my stomach.
"W-what? It can't be possible," I said. I could not believe the information before my eyes.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
