"I see how your attention builds
It's like looking in a mirror
Your touch like a happy pill
But still all we do is fear
What could possibly happen next?
Can we focus on the love?
Paint my kiss across your chest
If you're the art, I'll be the brush."
'Aurora,' I breathed out, I literally needed her at this point. My throat felt dry and it was hard to speak. But thankfully I didn't have to do that to talk to my wolf.
She didn't speak at first, it was like she was in a state of shock. I could see her faintly, her white fur shining through my mind, but she was still, her hazel eyes frozen.
'Aurora?' I said again and she took a sharp breathe.
'That son of a bitch,' she said through her gritted teeth.
'How dare he touch us like that,' she growled. 'I'll kill him.'
I looked at her with sad eyes. 'I really appreciate your fervour, Aurora. But I hope you know that realistically we can't do anything about the situation we are in.'
I rubbed my forearms with my hands, wishing I had a scrub with myself so that I could wash his touch away from me. The only time I have access to the bathroom is in the morning for 20 minutes, in which I have to manage to do everything, including taking a bath.
The water was always cold. Just like their hearts.
But I wanted hot water right now. Scorching, hot water that would burn my skin till I'd feel pure again.
'No! We can. We can make Patricia poison him to death.' She urged.
'And why would she do that? Scratch that, what would we do that? Why would we want to put Patricia's life at risk? We know that his slaves will kill her as soon as they'll find out. People here worship him. They look up to him as their Messiah. His success so far has blinded them in believing that he will bring them power and rise the standards of rogues.'
Aurora remained silent.
'She might have said that she'll help us no matter what, but we can't exploit her trust.' I concluded and she sighed, begrudgingly.
'Yeah, you are right. She's at risk by doing this. But then what? We can't sit around and waste time. We only have time till tomorrow evening. If it gets too late, he'll.. he'll...'
She gulped, 'You know that he might do, Olivia. You know what might do. I can't let that happen. I have to do something. I can't-'
Her voice choked and she started breathing heavily in fear. We both hated how weak we felt at the moment. Nothing was in our control.
'Connect to Lupus again. Tell him about it. We can't keep anything from him anymore. Tell him, and ask him to send help. Or better yet, come here himself. He, the alpha, and Reece can talk to Keith and convince him that I'm not Luna. Reece can recite the stupid pretence game we had played and we can hope that Keith will listen.'
Aurora sniffed and regained her breathe, before quickly nodding and without any arguments, she left my mind to search the fields for Lupus.
I didn't know what to expect. While I sat, doing nothing in the cellar during night time, I didn't know what would come out of Aurora's talk with Lupus.
There was pitch darkness in the room. Not even a ray of light coming from anywhere. Funny how it perfectly expressed my condition.

'I'm back!' Aurora's voice was heard in my head and I got alarmed.
'Did you talk to him?' I asked.
But she shook her head, 'No. I didn't get to talk to Lupus. He's currently in another pack, asking for support. And most probably that pack doesn't allow visitors to communicate to their pack members.'
I sighed in annoyance and dejection.
'But! Thankfully, I was able to talk to Reece and he's very upset about the situation. He sounded disturbed, and he's saying that he'll definitely help us. And will try his best.'
My dampened mood lightened and brightened up on heating that and I mentally thanked the moon goddess.
'We should sleep now.' she said, yawning slightly and I couldn't agree more.
Sleep. I always feel like a peaceful, hearty sleep is a gift from God to humans. When we sleep, we can forget about the shortcomings of life, the failures, the troubles, the threats and the worries. We're in our own tiny little world with pure Bliss.
But the only thing I didn't like was that the time we slept feels so much shorter than the time we are awake.
It's still a bliss I welcomed in this chaos. I could at least pretend like I am not stuck for my life. Even if, you can always expect to wake up to reality.
What I hadn't expected, however was, to be woken up with a bucket of cold water being thrown on my face.
My body shivered and I had barely opened my eyes when another bucket of water was thrown on me.
Screaming, I backed away and opened my eyes furiously to see what was the deal. My vision was hazy at first, just like it is every morning I wake up, but soon things became a bit more clear and I saw the angry face of Keith standing in front of me with a a piece of paper in his hands.
His guards on his sides held buckets that I hoped were not empty.
"Wake up, you bitch." He growled. I blinked my eyes a couple of times before waking up completely.
Once the world around me made sense to me, I noticed how beyond furious he looked and fear crawled in.
What was he doing here in the morning? Why is he so furious?
"You think this is a joke?" He shouted at me, striding forward as he gripped my arms and pulled me up.
I cried out in pain as his fingernails dug in my flesh and it stung because it was already bruised.
"I asked you to talk to your mate and call him here," he said in a low, threatening voice.
"I-I did, but-" I started but he didn't let me.
"But he made a joke out of it!" He growled his time, throwing me to the corner of the room like I was some sort of a sack of potatoes. My back crashed against the wall, paining me immensely as Aurora began working on healing it immediately.
He threw the piece of paper on my face before saying, "Look. Look at it for yourself. What your mate has done."
With shaking hands, watery eyes and a confused mind, I opened up the paper, to see what looked like a letter.
I read it,
Keith Sheldon,
Our pack is aware about the absence of a fellow pack member, Olivia Hart. And we are also aware that she has been kept in terrible conditions.
Reasons and motives behind the same are clear, and we'd like to say that the Alpha can assure you that she have no access to any sort of a precious Stone.

We'd also like to warn you about the consequences of your actions in case you end up severely hurting her.
As a peace loving pack, we would like to request you to respectfully free her and let her come home.
Reece Miller,
Future Alpha of the Mercy Wolf Pack.
The letter was signed off with the royal stamp of pack which only belonged to the Alpha and I sucked in a deep breathe after reading it.
My eyes skimmed over the piece of paper as I read it over and over again.
Oh god, what have you done, Reece? I thought.
This letter doesn't clear anything up. If anything, it is like a silent disrespect to Keith. A little challenge. An ultimatum. Which I'm sure he'd despise.
I looked up, tentatively to see Keith standing with his lips curled into an ugly snarl, and a storm in his eyes.
"You guys think you're really smart, don't you?" He said. "Pack member, eh! That's what the letter says, 'a fellow pack member'. What do you take me for, huh? A fool? Your mate made a mistake by trying to play it safe, girl. He is trying to protect my gem way too hard. I won't let him. He has pissed me by not only challenging me by warning me, but had also completely ignored the elephant in the room."
He stepped forward, cracking his knuckles. "I'm angry and that anger needs to be taken out on someone."
I put my shaking hands in front of me as a defense. "I-I don't know why he did this. I didn't ask him to. He's not my mate, I have said that so many times. Reece Miller is not my mate!"
I don't know what got into me that I started almost screaming in the end, with tears running down my eyes.
I guess I was too frustrated. He kept calling Reece my mate, when he knew nothing and I just wanted him to stop being blind for once and listen.
"Oh yeah? Then who's it?"
"Chance." I said, not holding anything back this time. "Chance Sommerfield-"
"The Beta of you pack?" He said and I nodded.
I had expected him to question me, be surprised, anything. But he didn't. Instead, he started laughing at me face like I was some sort of a lunatic spewing nonsense.
"C-Chance?" He laughed, cynically. "The one who was your boyfriend for a week or something? He asked you out in front of the school right? Oh my," he laughed some more.
"Is this some sort of a old, fucked up TV show? That love triangle kind of shit? Olivia is Reece's mate, Reece loves Olivia, but Olivia loves Chance so Olivia wants Chance to be her mate,"
His mocking tone infuriated the hell out of me and I gritted my teeth.
"I don't want him to be my mate, he is my mate." I dead-panned but he scoffed.
"Uh huh. Okay let's trust for a minute that he is your mate. Then what about the mark? Why hasn't he marked you yet? You were together for long enough. You are both adults and a new moon has passed by. Then why not?"
"Uh, that's because..." I opened and closed my mouth, trying to come up with an explanation. But what could I say? If I tell him that I'm unwanted, he'd know that no one is coming to save me, and he'd hurt me even more.
"Let me tell you why. That's simply because you're a slut. I can smell it on you, you are not a virgin. You did it with him, didn't you? Have you done it with Reece too? Oh wait, Maybe you've been with both of them, together. Like a threeso-"
"Stop! STOP! JUST STOP!" I screamed at him, covering my ears. I couldn't hear any more. The sick accusations of infidelity thrown at me by a characterless man, sickened me and made me want to throw up.
"First of all, just because a girl isn't a virgin doesn't mean she is a slut." I said. "In fact, no one is a slut. It's a matter of choices. We're free beings. We can do whatever we want, without having to be accountable for our likes, dislikes and choices."
"And second of all, I have never been Reece. Even though I don't have to explain this, I still am, so be grateful. I have only ever been with my mate that is Chance and if you don't want to accept it, then it's your problem."
I don't know where I got the strength from, but I did, but that didn't really make him happy.
"You're so proud of that aren't you? Your supposed fidelity?" He said darkly, as he stepped forward.
"Let me ruin that for you," he chuckled, humourlessly as he ran finger hands from the bottom to top of my arms. I was sickened by his touch and I flinched away.
"Don't touch me!" I said, squirming away but he hissed and pushed my against the wall so that he could cage me.
"Don't fight." He warned, as he kept his head in the crook of my neck and began leaving sloppy kisses down my neck.
"No!" I cried, fighting against him. Tears ran down my face as I realized what was happening and Aurora began pushing to take control.
"I said, don't fight! This makes sense to do. I'll have my fun and we'll find out who's your real mate by who gets pained by me doing this. It's amazing, isn't it? How you won't be so pure anymore. And then, he will surely bring me my present for taking you away. He's taking me for guaranteed and thinks you are too safe here. Let him get a bit worried, a bit insecure and anxious. He'll come running once he feels the pain of his mate sleeping with someone else, and I'll get my gem soon. So soon."
He laughed cynically. "Oh why hadn't I thought of this soon."
His hands moved up my stomach to my chest, too close to my intimate parts when I started screaming and thrashing against him. I let Aurora take in power as she was more powerful than me.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" I cried, pushing at his chest but he growled at me.
"Don't make it difficult for me, girl. Otherwise I'll make it painful for you."
I shook my head furiously. "Go! Don't touch me. I don't want you filthy hands on me!"
My words must have offended him as his palm immediately made contact with my skin as a slap.
"Bitch," he growled, slapping me again.
"I warned you. Now you have left me no choice."
He shouted at his guards to bring him a syringe of wolfsbane and my blood ran cold at the mention of the lethal poison.
'No no no, not wolfsbane,' Aurora whispered to me, fearing the Poison that could kill him.
"Keith, don't-" we tried to speak but he didn't let us as soon a sharp needle was stuck in my neck, transferring a bit of poison to my veins, causing my throat to close up in fear.
I watched in shock, as my entire body went on paralysis mode. Aurora's voice was no longer heard, she had vanished. My vision was no longer clear, it blurred. My ears could no longer hear properly, it buzzed. And then, my body started jerking relentlessly, trying to fight the poison when I was hurled into the chest of the monster.
You'd think a poisoned person won't remember anything clearly. That it'd be easy to forget.
But it was not. It was not easy to forget what I experienced after that. What I endured through, fought through, cried through after that.
The most terrifying, painful experience of my entire life.
I won't wish that upon anyone. No one deserves this.

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods.
