《The Alpha's Warrior》Chapter Thirty Five

I cry out with a loud howl. I run over to where they're laying, but it's too late.
Lucas is gone, but he took Sage with him. I don't know how to feel or what to think. My mind is racing. Anger is at the front of it all- I'm mad Lucas is dead, and if I'm being completely honest with myself, I'm a little upset I wasn't the one that got to kill Sage myself.
I'm relieved that Killian's okay, though I know we're not out of the woods just yet. He starts to limp over to me. I growl at him and try to force him to sit back down, but he's not having any of it. He pushes his head against mine softly.
We should shift.
He mind links me with another gentle nudge.
I'm naked.
I continue to stare numbly at the mutilated bodies in front of me.
We won.
We accomplished what we set out to do, so why does it feel like this? Killian trots off to a pile of clothes a few yards away from us. The clothes I had left with Lucas. I hadn't even realized they were there.
He grips them between his teeth and brings them back over to me, dropping them at my feet.
Change, He commands.
Fine. But it's not because you used your alpha voice on me.
He leads me back towards the pack house where we first found Sage. His own pile of clothes is waiting there for him so we both shift and change.
"So," he says out loud as he walks towards me. "Mind explaining the whole Alpha Lucas situation to me?"
I glance back at them again, at a loss for words.
"Can we talk about it later? We need to show proof that Sage is dead before any more of our men get hurt."

His eyes scan my face intently- they're filled with concern. Thankfully he doesn't push the matter though and instead agrees with a grim nod.
He throws Sage's wolf form over his shoulder, looking at the body in disgust the whole time. I pick up Alpha Lucas in my own arms and start walking towards the battlefield.
"Can't we just leave him here for now?" He questions.
"His pack deserves to know. How would you feel if you were left for someone else to deal with?"
"You're right. Let's get this over with."
We walk back side by side, silently. We try to walk quickly, not wanting to waste any time, but it was hard with all the extra weight. My body still hasn't completely recovered from being locked up for so long and Killian is still trying to recover from his wounds.
It would be so much easier if we could just shift. Good thing we're not too much further from where we need to be.
When we get there, my heart sinks.
It's an absolute blood bath. It's so hard to tell which side is which at this point. I try to mind link Patrick, Lexie, anyone who might be able to hear me, but it's just too chaotic right now.
Fortunately, Killian has another idea in mind.
"Enough!"
His voice booms across the field and the action comes to a grinding halt. Usually an Alpha's command tone only works on their own pack, but there was so much power and authority behind the order that everyone stopped what they were doing and turned to face us.
A few wolves close to us whimper at the sight of the bodies we're holding, but a quick glare from Killian causes them to bow their heads in submission.

"General Sage is dead. This war is over, as it should have been years ago."
He places Sage's body on the ground, much more gently and respectful than I expected out of him.
The crowd erupts into cheers. Many of the Warriors look around uncomfortably, no doubt unsure of their fate. I'm sure Sage had instructed them to take no prisoners, they probably expect that our side would do the same. Luckily for them, Killian is a much better man and leader than Sage ever was.
"Any Warrior that fought against us today has two options," he continues.
The cheers die down as everyone once again looks to Killian.
"You can submit and earn your way into my pack, or you can be exiled and live as a rogue."
Several Warriors bow instantly. Most begin to walk away, sealing their fates as rogues, but some remain standing, hesitant and undecided. I'm still a little too shocked to speak, but I need to tell Alpha Lucas's pack about what happened.
Killian still doesn't know the whole story and I want to make sure his pack knows their leader died a hero.
I clear my throat nervously- Killian gestures to me and lets me take the floor. I place Alpha Lucas's body gently on the ground in the same fashion that Killian did.
"You all need to know that Alpha Lucas is, regrettably, also dead. I want it to be known that he saved mine and Alpha Killian's lives and that he's the one who took down Sage. He died a hero and his sacrifice wasn't made in vain. We're going to make sure the horrible things Sage did never happen again."
Simultaneously, everyone on the field kneels and bows their heads in respect. To my surprise, Killian does as well.
I follow suit.
We remain in silence for a few moments until someone walks up and touches my shoulder. I look up to see a young man I had never seen before.
I stand up to meet him, but he's still a foot taller than me.
"I'm Beta Pierce, of Alpha Lucas's pack," he greets me.
I shake his hand with a sad smile. I can feel Killian hovering behind me and he extends his hand to Beta Pierce as well.
"Thank you for what you said. Alpha Lucas was a good man, despite his mistakes. I just hope he died knowing that."
"I'm sure he did," I reply.
"I also want to say that I'm sorry for all the damage our pack has done to yours over the years. We never wanted it to go that far," he says to Killian.
I glance back to see Killian smiling at him, no Malice in his eyes.
"It's in the past. Let's just move forward," he pats Beta, well Alpha now I guess, Pierce on the shoulder and shakes his hand once more.
"Alright everybody, let's go the fuck home."
