《My Brother's Best Friend》Chapter 48

Saturday morning Jax and I agreed on meeting at the park. Although it was a chilly morning, the sun was shining bright on my skin, keeping me cozy inside of my jacket.
The park was empty except a man walking his dog. He eyed me mysteriously, confused at the thought of someone enjoying a day in the coldness.
I was swinging on the swings when I saw his car pull up and he got out. He walked over to me once he noticed me swinging around and smiled to himself.
"You look like a little kid." He gave me a kiss.
"Why didn't you bring Amanda along?" I wondered.
"I told her to come and she said she was lazy." He shrugged. He swung alongside me and dragged his feet on the pavement as he went back and forth.
"Listen," He begins to say. "About last night."
"It's okay," I stop him. "I get it, Nick bringing up Alex made you feel some type of way. It wasn't my fault though. You can't get mad at me for stuff like that."
"I wasn't mad at you. I was mad at him because I couldn't do anything. After you told me he cheated and Nick bringing him up stirred things up for me." He explained. "You looked sad when he mentioned Alex."
"I wasn't sad," I shake my head. "I was hurt. We both did stupid shit in that relationship. It was toxic." I take a deep breath in and smile at Jax.
We stayed in silence, taking in our surroundings and processing what we talked about.
I, in no way, wanted or needed Alex back into my life. I had everything I needed right besides me.
"Enough talk about Alex." I finally speak. "I have you and that's all that matters."
"Come on," he begins. "Let's play a game."
"What game?" I raise an eyebrow.
"I bet you can't jump farther than me off the swing?" He wiggles his eyebrows.
Shaking my head, we begin to swing using our feet to help us. The cold wind hit my chest harshly but I kept swinging. I erupted in a pit of laughter as I watched Jax jump off his swing and came crashing down on the ground.

"Your turn!" He yelled.
"I can't!" I shake my head. "I'm too high."
"Close your eyes and jump!" He laughed. "I'm going to push you off of it if you don't jump."
"Okay, okay, count me in!" I shrieked in excitement and listened as Jax counted down. When he yelled out the last number I jumped out of the swing and flew off.
Crashing onto the ground, I felt a sting in my ankle almost as if someone was stabbing it from the inside.
"Fuck, fuck, shit!" I yelled out in pain.
"Emma!" Jax came running to my side and picked me up from the ground. He sat me back on the swing and I groaned with pain as he touched my ankle.
"My ankles broken, I feel it." I whined.
"It's not broken." He rolls his eyes at me. "Move it in circles."
"I can't." I tell him.
"Yes, you can. Do it." He demands.
I moved my foot around in small motions, groaning every time I felt a painful sensation.
"It still hurts." I said.
"You'll be okay." Jax said. "Try to stand up."
I put my weight on my other foot and limped away from Jax. "I'm crippled."
Jax chuckles, coming to my side and picking me off the floor.
"Jax, I can walk put me down."
"I'm practicing." He said.
"For what?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Our wedding."
Laughing, I leaned my head in and gave him a kiss on his cheek. We reached his car and he put me down, opened the door for me and helped me get it.
When I got in, I buckled my seatbelt and waited as Jax got in.
"Do you want to eat something?" He asked. "Or you wanna go home and ice that foot?"
"Mhm, my foot can wait. My stomach on the other hand, it needs food now."
"Food it is."
Suddenly, Jax sneezed loudly, just barely covering his mouth and spitting all over me.
"Jax, ew!" I glanced at him. He was laughing and wiping his hands on his jeans. "Disgusting, do you have napkins in here?"

I leaned in to open the glove box and Jax's loud gasp stopped me. "Wait, don't open that."
"Why? I'm going to get napkins." I furrowed my eyebrows and reached to open it. As soon as I did, a strong smell flew into my nostrils.
"Jax." I looked at the bag of crushed green substance inside.
"That's not mine." He protested.
"Why is it in your car?"
"A friends?" He says unsure of his answer.
"Do you have rolling paper?" I wiggle my eyebrows.
"Are you crazy?" He took the bag from my grasp. "Your father will kill me if I bring you home high and don't even get me started on Hunter."
"Come on, I'll be with you I'm sure I'll be fine. Plus, we'll wait until I come down and then we'll go to my house." I tell him. "Come on, roll it."
"Emma." He sternly said.
"Jax."
Sighing in defeat, he reaches to my side to open the glove box again and takes out a small silver box. Opening it, he takes out a little piece of paper and starts sprinkling the weed on it.
"Can I finish it?" I ask him before he could finish setting it up.
"Here," He passes it to me carefully. "Don't drop it."
After showing me how to roll it completely, he takes a lighter from his pocket and rolls the windows up.
"Are you sure you want to do this? You can still back out." He asks me.
I unbuckle my seatbelt, remove my jacket and sit up excitedly in my seat.
"I'm ready."
Bringing it to his lips, he begins to light it and takes a long drag from it. He inhales it and let's it out, passing it over to me. The car fills up with smoke immediately and I try my best not to cough as I hold it in my hand.
"Try to hold it in for a while. Like this," He imitates inhaling it and let's air out. "Try it."
I bring the joint to my lips and take a short drag from it. Breathing in, I hold it for a couple of seconds before I feel my throat burn and let out a cough.
"Oh, God," I cough. "Fuck, here." I pass it to Jax and continue coughing, waving the smoke away from my face.
Chuckling, he continues to smoke as he looks at me. "You'll get used to it, it's not so bad."
"Do you have water?" I ask.
He nods his head and passes me the joint. As he reaches in the backseat I take the opportunity to take another pull and bring it to my lips. Taking a longer pull, I inhale and let it out.
This time it felt easier in my throat and more comfortable than the first time. I don't remember how many pulls I took but when I turned back to Jax I started laughing like a mad man.
"Holy fuck!" I laughed. I clutched my stomach, throwing my head back as I looked over at Jax who was smiling at me. "Why aren't you laughing?!"
"You're so high." He chuckled as continued to smoke the joint.
"You're high."
Everything was in a dream state, the sky was brighter and sounds were louder yet sounded like they were distant.
Every time I looked at something I thought I saw double. I felt my body relax into my seat and I smiled to myself.
"Mhmm, this is so nice I like this it's nice."
"You okay?" Jax asked. He had put it out now and put the unfinished joint in the silver box. He put it back in the glove department and laid his seat all the way back.
Laying my seat back as well I giggled as I felt myself slowly go down.
"You're cute." I glanced at Jax.
"You're cuter."
"Hey, Jax." I spoke.
"Mhmm."
"I love you."
I was sure he almost broke his neck at how fast he looked at me. His eyes were all droopy and red but his smile held so much emotion.
"I love you, too."
