《Mi Reina》Chapter Sixteen - Morning

Xia's POV:
If there is one thing that you must know about me it's that I hate when someone disturbs me while I sleep. I don't care if there is an earthquake that's going to strike or even a pandemic that is going on, don't you dare wake me the hell up.
But right now, I couldn't help but feel annoyed at the fact that someone was trying to shake me awake.
Thinking that it would probably be Adrian, who possibly broke into my apartment, I was going to throw a pillow at them but stopped myself when I heard a frail voice.
"Xia?"
My eyes shot open and I, almost immediately, sat up with a start. Looking at my surroundings, I was surprised. Well, it looks like the three of us slept while watching the movie.
The blanket that we shared a few hours ago was thrown onto the ground. Ric was sleeping on the couch with his head resting on my thigh and Nic was sitting next to me, his eyes wide open.
I glanced at the clock that hung on the wall and saw that it was 2:00 AM.
I turned my head back to Nicolas. "What's wrong?"
"I need to use the washroom. I tried waking up Dadda but he won't get up." He explained. "Could you please show me where the washroom is?"
I smiled, "Sure, Honey."
Carefully, I moved my leg which made Ric's head fall to the couch. Jeez, he didn't get up yet. I hadn't pegged him to be a heavy sleeper. Helping Nic get out of the couch, I led him to the washroom.
"Will you be alright on your own or do you want me to wake Ric up?" I asked the little guy while switching the bathroom lights on.

"I'll be alright. I'm a big boy." He stated, walking into the washroom.
"Okay." I smiled and closed the door. Deciding that it was better to stand outside, I waited for him to finish his business. Once he did, he opened the door the looked at me with pleading eyes.
"Hey, what happened?" I asked him, slightly bending to his level.
"I can't reach the sink." He said worriedly.
"Don't worry, I'll carry you up." I told him.
Walking into the bathroom, I carried him up and held him over the sink so that he hovered above it. He quickly washed his hands so I placed him back on the floor.
As he was going to leave the bathroom, I stopped him by calling out his name. He stopped and looked back at me, probably wondering why I had done so.
I opened the cabinet that was above the sink and took out a towel. Squatting down to his level, I held his hands in mine and wiped the water that was dripping off of them.
"Thank you, Xia." He said, his eyes almost sparking with happiness.
"Your welcome, jellybean." I beamed at him.
Once we walked out of the bathroom and into my room, I looked at the bed and decided to sleep in here.
"Do you wanna sleep here?" I asked Nicolas, gesturing towards the bed. He nodded eagerly.
"Are you sure? You don't mind sleeping with me?" I questioned again. I didn't want him to sleep with me if he wasn't comfortable.
"Yeah, I'll sleep here. With you." He replied.
"Alright." I mumbled to myself and strolled towards the bed. Nicolas followed me and had somehow manged to climb up next to me.
I slept on my back and wrapped my arm around him while the little guy placed his head on my chest.

"Goodnight, Nicolas." I whispered.
"Goodnight, Xia." He said, wrapping one of his tiny arms around my waist.
I was so sleepy that I slept almost as soon as my eyes closed but I didn't miss the tiny peck that I felt on my cheek.
Is that what I think it is?
I looked down at Nicolas in surprise and saw him hide his face in my neck. I smiled and kissed his forehead.
Soon enough, I fell into a deep sleep.
The sweet aroma of pancakes filled my senses as my eyes fluttered open. I let myself recall the blurred memories of the events that occurred last night and this morning.
Oh, so Ricardo is cooking breakfast. Good for me.
I glanced over to the other side of the bed and furrowed my eyebrows in confusion when I didn't see Nicolas. He probably woke up.
Look at that! A four year old woke up before me, I should have some shame.
Keyword: should.
Well, that doesn't mean that I will.
Dragging myself out of the bed, I went to the washroom and brushed my teeth after doing my business. Realizing that I hadn't showered last night, I took a quick shower too.
After that, I walked into my closet and chose a comfy beige lounge tracksuit that consisted of a knitted top and pants.
Wearing my slippers, I proceeded to walk out of my room and into the kitchen. And when I entered the kitchen, I was met with the most adorable sight that I had ever seen. The Ramirezes, yes, that is what I am calling them, were making breakfast.
Nicolas sitting on the counter with his legs dangling over the edge and stirring the batter in one of the bowls while Ricardo stood over the stove, flipping pancakes with a flipper.
"Good Morning!" I greeted, making my presence known.
"Xia!" Nicolas exclaimed, placing the bowl on the counter.
I smiled and walked towards him so I now I was only a few inches away from him and next to Ricardo, "Good Morning, jellybean."
He grinned and pulled me into an unexpected hug, wrapping his tiny legs around my waist. I hugged him back and was about to wish Ricardo a good morning but he spoke before I could.
"No good morning wish or hug for me?" He asked, clearly fake pouting.
"Good Morning." I said, rolling my eyes at his childish behavior.
"I hope you don't mind that we helped ourselves to the spare toothbrushes in the cupboard under the sink." He said, running a hand through his hair.
"It's alright, I would have given the same ones to both of you anyway." I shrugged.
"You should hug Dadda too. He said that he was feeling cold sometime back." Nicolas butted in.
I looked back at Ric, "I'll get you a jacket."
"Nooo..." The little boy whined. "Hug."
I sighed and turned to Ricardo, giving him a hug. Just as I was about to pull away from him, he held me tighter and not a second later, I could feel small arms wrapped around me; Nicolas.
What are these two trying to do to to me?
He had somehow managed to sit at the edge of the counter and lean on us, joining the hug. So now the three of us were all in the embrace of each other. And I won't lie, this feels so nice, so relaxing.
"I'm hungry." Nicolas stated.
"Let's eat then." Ric said, making us break the warm hug.

The Unstoppable Ascension of Zu Mari, Time-Looper
Zu Mari will never be stopped! Zu Mari will ascend to the heavens! Zu Mari is a downtrodden cultivator without any hope of becoming powerful. OR SO HE THINKS! One day fate intervenes on his behalf to give him everything he'd ever dreamed of, ALL THE POWER HE SO RIGHTLY DESERVES! And then, finally, everything starts going his way. (Well... kind of.) [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] wooooo!! Let's do this! Just to clear up some misconceptions, this is not a parody and it is not a satire. Zu Mari does include over the top humor and exaggerations intended to amuse, but satire is a very specific thing which this is not. I certainly haven't read enough xianxia to properly satirize or parody them. It's just a silly project I'm writing for fun, with a meta story that makes me laugh. Expecting anything else will only end in disappointment.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
