《Mi Reina》Chapter Twenty Three - Falling

I started at the ceiling above as I felt myself sink into the bed underneath me. Today was such a tiring and boring day. Being a Don is not as easy as you might think; it is more than just killing people and the trade of ammunition.
There is a lot of paperwork involved and that's exactly what I had done the whole day. Boring, yeah, I know.
My thoughts slowly drifted away from work and to the goddess of a women living in the room next to mine. Xia. Her angelic face, her bright hazel eyes, her wavy hair. Everything.
I recalled everything that happened in the last few hours. Yes, hours. I couldn't sleep ever since Xia and I went to our own rooms.
I had stopped in my tracks when I heard soft giggling as I entered the house from work. Following the sound which lead me to the dining table in the hall. I stood a little away and gazed a the scene in front of me.
It was Xia who was laughing, looking at Nico. I saw my son pick up the fork that he had in his little fingers, feeding Xia. She looked surprised at the taste and just as she about to say something, Nicolas wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug.
He whispered something in her ear and as soon as he did, I noticed Xia's eyes getting watery. She said something back to him, that put a smile on his face.
They exchanged a few more words and pulled away from each other. Deciding to stop being a creep, I made my presence known.
Fast forward to now, I can't sleep. I'm still kinda getting used to sleeping without Nico near me although it's been almost a year now that he's been sleeping in his room.

I'm thinking to much about Nico's future; his dream, his passion, his life; his mother. I wouldn't want anyone besides Xia to be a mother for my little hijo . She is everything that I have ever wanted for my child.
She is selfless, accepting, beautiful, amazing, brave, caring, loving, protective...I could go on for hours. She is perfect.
Jeez, what's wrong with me? Where are these feelings coming from? Didn't I tell myself to be careful around women again?
Don't tell me...
I'm falling for her. I am, amn't I?
I know that I should be careful and but I don't even know when it happened. Or even when these feelings started. All I knew is that right here and right now, I was falling hard and I could only pray that she felt the same way.
I have been told by many others that I should find someone but I'm scared that I won't find someone who understands that my child comes first. Always.
Don't get me wrong, I love being a single father and and spending time with Nico is the highlight of my entire life. But more and more, I crave for love. Not the love that your family gives you; not the love that your child gives you. I mean the love of a significant other, a companion, my better half.
Okay, I shouldn't be getting ahead of myself. If something has to happen between Xia and I, it will. I sighed.
Feeling a wave of sleepiness come over me, I made myself comfortable in bed and let out a sleepy yawn, closing my eyes.
"Dadda?" A voice said, slightly shaking my shoulder.
"Mmhm?" I hummed, not opening my eyes.
"Wake up, Dadda." Nicolas repeated; he is the only person who calls me that.

My eyes flickered open when he called out to me again. I quickly held out my arm above my face to shield my eyes from the bright sunlight that had managed to enter the room.
When my eyes adjusted to the light, I could see clearly.
Nico was sitting on my bare torso, because I usually sleep shirtless with only sweatpants on, his legs on either side of me. He was still wearing his favorite Iron Man pajamas that he had fallen asleep in last night.
"Good Morning, Dadda." He beamed, wrapping his tiny pair of arms around my neck.
"Morning, Nico." I said, my voice being groggy from the fact that I had just woken up. I hugged my son back, giving him a peck on his forehead.
Nico looked away from me and towards the doorway that was adjacent to the bed that we were on. Curious, I followed his gaze and saw I smiling Xia at the doorway. She had on a white pair of oversize shorts that an olive green colored t-shirt tucked into them. She finished off the outfit with some jewelry.
I looked up at her face and noticed that she hasn't worn any makeup besides some lip balm. She is a natural beauty.
"Buenos Días ." I greeted as our eyes met.
"Good Morning to you too, Ric." She replied. I raised my eyebrows in surprise. She understands Spanish.
"I don't know much of Spanish. Just a little here and there." She clarified, looking at my expression. I nodded.
Turning to Nico, who was still on me, I spoke, "Don't you have to attend school?"
"It's the weekend, Dadda." He replied.
Oh. My bad.
"I'm going to eat breakfast with Xia. Come soon, Dadda." Nico stated, getting off of me. He walked to Xia and held her hand in his, pulling her out of the room.
"I'll see you later, Butt-head!" Was all she said before she left.
I chuckled at the nickname and got out of bed, towards the bathroom. After having a shower, I decided to taking a break from work today. I had done most of the paperwork last night and Callum still hadn't gotten the location of the vehicle.
My conscience told me that somehow Lorenzo was involved in all of this but I didn't want to jump to conclusions just yet.
Straightening out the hoodie that I was wearing along with the most comfortable pair of sweatpants, I took one last glance at the mirror and ran a hand through my damp hair. Leaving the room, I closed the door behind me.
When I reached the kitchen downstairs, I was met with the sight of the most heartwarming scene ever. My son and Xia were laughing their hearts out, playing with flour that had somehow managed to mess every inch of her face as well as my son's clothes.
But she still looked as beautiful as ever.

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them.
