《Mi Reina》Chapter Thirty Seven - Decoy

"Could you stop talking for one minute? Fucking one minute!" Antonio shouted at Devon who had been explaining how his grandmother made chicken pot pie when he was younger.
"Rude, much." Devon muttered under his breath.
I chuckled. Devon always spoke about his family and at the time, I used to love listening to him but it was starting to get really annoying because he had been talking non-stop for the last hour while we drove back to the warehouse.
None of us trusted him enough to bring him to the mansion just yet. I mean, who in their right mind, would?
"So, have you been doing?" He asked, turning to me.
"Alright." I replied, not wanting to speak to him any further.
"Ooookkaayyy, what about you, Mother duck?" Devon asked Rico, who seemed to be trying to suppress his anger.
"I was doing more than alright but then you decided to shoot me two weeks back so I'm still recovering. Thank you for that, by the way." He replied sarcastically.
"No problem, babe." Devon said nonchalantly. "I'll always be there for you if you want me to shoot you."
That last sentence would have scared me if Antonio hadn't checked him for armor, listening or tracking devices before he entered the car and the fact that he was handcuffed did calm me down a little.
"Psicópata ." Was the only word that Callum mumbled before continuing to focus on the road in front of him while driving.
Soon, we had reached the warehouse that I had been to not more than a few times. Since Rico's office had previously been annihilated, he repaired it and now it was just as safe and secure as the one at the mansion.
The five of us; Rico, Antonio, Callum, Devon and I sat in in the office to discuss about what we were going to do next. I couldn't think of anybody in particular who would want to hurt me. I was never involved with mafias and gangs in my whole life, until the last two months, that is.

"The reason that I asked for your help now was because I was told to...um, kidnap Xia." Devon faltered.
What. The. Actual. Fuck.
"What did you just say?" I asked, questioning my hearing abilities.
"I was to told to kidnap you." He simply repeated. "I asked why but the person said that it was none of my business."
"As much as I want my brother to be alive, I couldn't do that." He sighed. "It's not that I have feelings for you or anything but I could never do that to you, Xia."
"Well, I am glad that you decided to come to us because if you would have actually done it, I swear to God, I would have fucking killed you." Rico's temper sparked.
"Got that." Devon nodded his head.
"Do you know where this person lives? Is there a place where you both meet or something?" Callum asked, not paying heed to the previous conversation.
"Nope. I've never met the guy in real life." He replied. "All the communication happens through the burner phone that he left in my car. That dumb-ass always access to my Toyota and I don't even know how. I lock it every single time."
"Okay, is there a number saved on there?" Antonio questioned.
"No, there's a contact named 'Unknown' but I don't have access to the number." He said.
"Oh, wow. This dude is a next level cyber spy." Callum said, surprise taking over his expression. "Okay, we're going to have to up our game. If he can do that, there is a chance that he already has enough information and resources that he needs. Since he wants to get a hold of Xia, I can only assume that it's time for whatever he has planned."

My breathing quickened at his words. I wasn't ready to die. I haven't even had apple pie in freaking two months! I can't die so soon. Oh my! What about Nico? I told him that I would always be there for him. What would-
I didn't get to continue my inner monologue as Rico set his hand on my bare thigh in a way of telling me that he was here, with me.
"I won't let anyone touch you. Nothing will happen to you, alright?" He comforted me, slightly rubbing his palm on the material of my jean shorts.
I gave him a small smile, "Alright."
In the last two weeks, we had gotten closer to each other. It was a little awkward at first but everything went back to normal. The both of us gave each other small pecks here and there but never continued what had happened on that day.
He understood that I wanted to take it slow and I was so grateful to him for that.
"I came here to warn you and make sure that you keep her safe because if I don't do it, someone else definitely will. And I learnt that the hard way. When I once refused to break into your apartment, I was beaten up and in the meantime, someone had already done it." Devon explained.
"I have an idea." Antonio blurted out of nowhere.
We looked at him in a way of telling him to continue. He looked back at us like we were crazy.
"What?" He asked, clearly oblivious.
"We're waiting for you to continue, Estúpido ." Callum teased.
Toni narrowed his eyes at the dweeb and continued, "What if we misdirect him? Like a decoy?"
"Care to elaborate?" Rico asked his brother.
"See, the guy knows everything about where Xia lives and probably knows this place too but what he definitely doesn't know is where the safe houses are located." He started. "You could stay there for a while and on the other hand, we make him think that you're still here and when he does come after you, we get him. What say?"
Okay, I'm not going to lie, that is a really great idea. Why didn't I think of that?
"You could go with Ric if you're not comfortable." Callum added.
"Alright, but what about Nico?" I questioned. "I'm not leaving him here where we're literally welcoming the enemy. Can he come along with us?"
As I said the last sentence, I turned to Rico in a way of asking him specifically. I mean, he is the father after all. I can't make decisions for his son.
"Of course, he can." Rico agreed. "Especially because he needs some fun time too."
"Well, it's set then." Devon announced. "Vacation, here I come."
"No, Loquacious Lily." Rico stopped him and I swear I almost snorted out loud because of the nickname he gave him. "You will be staying here. You know our plan now so it would be daft of us to let you roam around. Remember that we can't trust you fully until you've proven your loyalty."
"Fine, Debbie Downer." Devon huffed. "I'll stay here. But, I want you to guarantee my safety."
"No promises there." Rico smirked and left the room.
