《Unveiling the Arcane》Dante

I looked over not for the first time at Sage laying against Caden. The three of them reeked of lust. Caden, Aiden, and Sage were all covered in a cloud of it. I was sure Aiden would be getting a good meal tonight from the pheromones in the air. The only thing that I didn't understand was how Aiden was letting off more lust than Caiden who literally had a girl practically sitting in his lap.
When the end credits started to roll, and Caiden's lust dissipated completely I realized what was going on. I sat up straight giving the two twins an accusative glare. "You two little shits!" I threw a pillow at Caden who was not the one with Sage in his lap and clapped Aiden on the back of the head.
Sage sat up looking between the three of us. "I think he finally noticed," Caden said in a sing-song voice.
"Oh, he noticed," Aiden spoke roughly.
We had been friends for years, so I knew the effects that lust had on his voice. I knew he couldn't control it just as I knew Sage couldn't control her physiological reaction to his voice. A visible shiver traveled down her spine and her eyes darkened a bit. I was hit with another wave of the scent of her arousal. Her natural rosemary-lemon scent became crisper and more defined. "Does this mean that I win?" I asked, rubbing my hands together with a maniacal grin.
Caden looked at Sage out of the corner of his eye before shaking his head. "No. Actually, Flower was the first to notice."
I looked at the girl who was settling herself back against her pillow. "When did she find out?"
"First thing this morning. Knew as soon as she saw us." Aiden supplied the huskiness slowly draining from his voice.

I studied her closely. If that was true, there was no way the twins would ever let her go. They had never found anyone, not even among Maddox and I that could tell them apart so easily. "How could you tell them apart?" I looked closely at her.
She bit her bottom lip before answering. "Do you want to know? Most people don't want to spend time with me anymore after they find out." She admitted.
The twins turned into that immediately. I guess she hadn't told them this yet. Maddox shifted to face her waiting patiently. I nodded my head in answer to her question. After a sigh, she started to speak. "It might sound strange, but I've always been an empath. Knowing how people around me are feeling is a big part of my life. I know it seems a little unbelievable but it's true. Mostly when people find out they get weirded out that I always know how they feel." She went back to chewing her lip again not making eye contact with any of us.
I glanced over at the twins noting their furrowed brows. Aiden was the first to break the silence. "Why would we think that's unbelievable?"
Sage looked up at him, "People just don't have abilities like that. It's like something out of a fantasy novel honestly." She barked out a sound of unamused laughter.
We all made confused eye contact again while Sage avoided eye contact. Maddox started signing, "I don't think she knows about any of this." he made a gesture that we understood as referring to the whole school and us in general.
"Sage?" Honestly the tone and softness I spoke in surprised me as much as I was sure it surprised the guys. "What exactly do you know about this school?"

She looked up at me seemingly confused about the subject change. "Just that my Dad went here and that he wanted me to go here my last year of high school. And that some of the classes are weird. I mean species traits what the heck is that about?"
"Fuck." Caden muttered.
Maddox, Aiden, and I all nodded in agreement with that sentiment. "Well, let's start by explaining that to get on this campus you must be special. Humans can't get on campus. The wards won't allow it. Everyone on this campus has some type of arcane ability." I tried to explain.
I had never had to explain this world to anyone belonging to it that had been completely oblivious before. Sage blinked a couple of times before shaking her head in denial. Caden reached out and pulled her into his side. She was stiff for a moment before she relaxed into his hold. "When you first stepped on campus did you have any strange feeling like something flowing over you or parting to let you through?" He asked her.
She shook her head. "Not exactly. It felt like there was resistance while I walked closer until it just snapped away like a rubber band." She described.
Maddox and I furrowed our brows because that wasn't what the wards felt like at all to us. It felt like the magic just flowing over us as we pass. The twins nodded in agreement to her assessment which made me realize we never really talked about it, but they had always complained about hating the wards. Well shit. I guess that means her species is derived from hell. Maddox and I came from mythology. "Do you have any other abilities?" Aiden interrupted my thoughts.
Sage shook her head, "I don't understand. You said everyone on campus. So, James, Mandy... You guys... are all... What?" Her brows furrowed.
"We're all Arcane. Magical creatures, though we prefer to go by Arcane Species."
