《The Ecstasy Of Faking It》Chapter 9: boy in my bedroom.

Adrian and I were pretty good at faking our relationship, especially Adrian, he would always do these sweet gestures whenever Charlie was around, for instance, he would feed me his food in the cafeteria, we shared a smoothie in the parking lot, piggy back ride on the football field during their football practice and he would peck my cheek and have his arm around me just to piss Charlie off and it worked like magic, Charlie looked like someone who was about to explode.
I was starting to think of Adrian as a romantic guy even though I had never heard or saw him date anyone, I felt like he had a lot of experience about dating and relationships.
And of course, he was still cold, sarcastic and really rude when we weren't acting like a couple.
I didn't put much effort into getting rid of that bad attitude of his because we were just helping each other and that was it.
Friday night, the night before Jared's birthday party. Jared, Adrian and I went to the mall even though Adrian was against the 'dumb' idea, he still came with us but unfortunately he left in a hurry saying he had an emergency. something about his statement felt like a clean lie.
Jared ended up driving me home, I became best friends with Jared due to the fact that he constantly took my side whenever Adrian and I had an argument about something. I loved that and Adrian freaking hated it.
"See you tomorrow night?" Jared asked as I opened the car door.
"See you there, tell Adrian to pick me up on time, okay?"
"Or you can tell him yourself." He suggested, trying not to sound rude.
"I don't have his number dude, just tell him for me." I got out of his car and closed the car door. "Bye." I waved and he sighed softly before driving off.
Walking towards my house, I noticed an unfamiliar car in the driveway, and to top it off, my dad's car was not in the driveway.
I opened the front door and let myself inside, I heard a woman's voice humming in the kitchen. I slowly walked to the kitchen and saw a blonde woman doing dishes by the sink.
I almost thought I was in someone else's house but everything around me said otherwise.

"Who the hell are you?" I asked confusingly.
She immediately turned around and placed her hand over her chest.
"Shit. Emily, you scared me." She sounded breathy.
I recognized her.
"Aunt Linda?" I asked in disbelief.
"Well don't just stand there," She flew her arms sideways and I ran into them.
Aunt Linda was my mother's only sibling, she left town and went to Vegas after Mom's death, she did visit but only once in two to three years.
I felt like crying but the tough girl in me told me not to.
"I missed you." I said through our hug.
"Me too, sweetheart." She pulled away and pinched my cheeks playfully. "You've grown." She looked at me everywhere, I giggled.
I looked around the kitchen, "Wait, where's Dad?"
"Your Dad went on a business trip." She frowned.
"Again? But that's twice this year, he only goes once a year." I whined, I honestly couldn't live life without my father.
"He said it was an emergency, I'm sure he's gonna call you." She assured me, I nodded in agreement.
"Oh and there's a really cute boy upstairs in your bedroom." She informed me, I raised my eyebrows at her.
Adrian.
"A boy?" I asked.
"Yes, he's been here since this afternoon." She said.
Sensitive, alarming questions came running into my head;
When did I last clean my room?
Did I leave any underwear or bra on the floor?
Where did I keep my tampons?
where did I leave my diary?
For your own information, I didn't even own a diary.
"Okay but why is he in my bedroom?" I snapped out of my own thoughts.
"Because he told me he was your boyfriend, and he asked nicely." She shrugged off.
Aunt Linda did not have any kids so I understood her lack of parental judgement.
I heaved a sigh as I turned on my heel and left the kitchen.
I thought it was Adrian cause he was my fake boyfriend and literally had the guts to go into my room but I was proven wrong when I opened my bedroom door and saw Charlie sitting on my bed and typing away on his phone. He looked up from his phone and stared at me.

My heart picked up it's pace as I closed the door behind me.
"W-hat are you-"
"Hey." He shoved his phone into his pocket.
He stood on his two feet and ambled towards me, I dug my nails deep into my palm as I stood my ground and tried to act unbothered by his presence.
"Your aunt seems nice." He stood in front of me.
I gulped hard before taking one step backwards, he closed the gap once more but I took another step back.
"Are you afraid of me now?" He asked.
He had no idea what I was thinking at that moment.
I was about to answer when I felt my phone vibrating in my back pocket. I pulled it out to see who was saving me from answering Charlie's question.
It was an unknown caller.
My dad once called me using an unknown number so that was my first guess.
"Shh! my dad's calling." I shushed Charlie even though he wasn't saying anything.
I picked up the call,
I greeted cheerfully. Charlie rolled his eyes at me.
The phone got snatched out of my hand, I gasped as Charlie hung up on Adrian.
"Hey! He's gonna murder me for that!" I exclaimed without thinking it through.
"Isn't it weird for you not to have your boyfriend's number?" He held my phone in his hand.
"I do have it, he used his friend's number." I lied.
My phone started ringing in his hand, he glanced at the screen and smirked.
I knew it was Adrian calling again and I also knew Charlie was about to answer it. I reacted by trying to snatch my phone back, but of course, he held it up high where I couldn't reach even if I jumped for it.
Damn these boys and their stupidly tall heights.
I stopped trying and he looked at the screen like he was about to answer the call.
"Charlie don't you dare-"
Damnit.
He fucking answered it.
He hung up and tossed my phone on the bed.
"Okay now he's gonna fucking murder me." I said to myself.
"Do you love him?" He questioned seriously.
"What?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Adrian. Do you love him?" He repeated, stepping closer to me.
I couldn't say no and I sure as hell couldn't say yes.
"That's not any of your business." I placed my hand on his hard chest, trying to push him back but he didn't even move an inch so I had to move instead.
"What about me? Do you still love me?" He held my hand in his, I looked down at our hand.
"Charlie."
"Do you?" He pushed, I looked up at his desperate expression.
I was finding it difficult to speak.
"No, I don't love you... anymore." I looked everywhere but his face.
He cupped my face and made me look at him straight in the eye, "Say that again."
"Leave me alone Charlie, you moved on and I'm starting to move on. What else do you want from me?" I felt my tone weaken.
"I want you." He tucked loose strands of hair behind my ear as he searched my eyes.
During that moment, I realized something that made me collect the tiniest strength that I had left in order to take that one last step back.
I realized that, what I really needed was to make him feel what I felt when he broke my heart, I also wanted him to feel betrayed by the fact that I was dating Adrian out of all the guys at school. I didn't want to get back with him at all and most importantly I realized that our relationship was nothing but a fake relationship.
"You should leave." I pointed to my door, and I meant it.
"Emily-"
"Charlie please leave!" I demanded.
He looked at me with sorrowful eyes, he did look regretful but it was too late for that.
He sighed defeatedly, planting a kiss on my forehead and walking out the door.
A tear rolled down my cheek as soon as he closed the door.
"Shit." I plopped on my bed and checked my phone.
There were no missed calls or messages from Adrian.
"He's probably planning my death right now." I chuckled to myself as I saved his number.
And then came the problem, I was worried about what Adrian was thinking when I clearly wasn't supposed to.
