《MC's Viking Warriors- Rogue #5》Liam

I watch in horror from my shadows in the alley as the president's daughter, the girl from the window, begins to walk towards a car. Unable to keep quiet, I speak out and make them both jump.
"What do you think you're doing?" I growl out as I step from the alley and storm towards them.
The man in the car lets out a stream of vicious curses, making the innocent girl jolt back away from the car in fear.
"Fuck off!" I snarl at the man and throw a protective arm around the waist of the girl I recognise to be the president's daughter.
The man speeds away, wheels squealing and horn blaring as I gently pull the girl away from the edge of the road.
When I realise she's shivering, I lead her out of the rain to stand under a covered alley before I begin to speak.
"What were you thinking?" I demand as she turns to look at me, her big blue eyes looking up at me with confusion.
"He-he," she stammers before pausing to let out an adorable sneeze, "he said that he would take me home."
I internally curse, not at her, it's not her fault, Adrian told me that the president's daughter was kept sheltered but this is ridiculous. I understand he wants to keep her safe, but there comes a point when you're doing more harm than good by sheltering her. This is a perfect example.
"What's your name?" I ask her softly as I take a step away from her, I worry that I am intimidating her by standing too close.
"Katie," she says without a moment's hesitation, even though it was fine to tell me her name, I'm trusted, she doesn't know that yet. It's another example of how vulnerable she is.

"Well, Katie, that man wanted to hurt you."
"What?" Her lip trembles with fear and I almost feel bad about scaring her, but she needs to know this to protect her.
"I don't know what his intentions were Katie, but they weren't good..." I pause for a moment and assess her reaction, "and he wouldn't have taken you home."
"But, but why?" She stammers, shivering with the cold and trembling with fear.
"Because there are bad people in the world Katie, you can't trust anyone you don't know."
When my words of warning finally sink in, Katie's eyes dart up in fear and I realise what she's thinking.
"You can trust me," I begin and then I slowly turn around so she can see my cut, "I work with your father, you can trust me."
"Oh," she mumbled, "so you're the one who was meant to pick me up..." she sneezes again and I worry she has caught a cold.
"Someone was meant to collect you?" I glower as I look at her pale shivering form.
"Yeah," she mumbles, shifting from foot to foot, "my dad couldn't and then the prospect didn't turn up..." she trails off and sneezes a few more times.
I look up to the sky and fight to roll my eyes at her adorable actions, I can't have thoughts like this about my new president's daughter. I'm only a temp and I'd prefer to keep my balls attached to my body.
"I'll call your father, get him to pick you up." I offer as I remove my cut and slump it over her shivering shoulders, even I am feeling the cold in this weather, and Katie looks like a baby bird trapped in a storm.

"Thank you." She murmurs before burrowing her face down under the cuff of the jacket.
I turn my back on her and pull out my phone, I hesitate for a second before dialling the president's number.
"What?" He snarls down the phone making me jump, luckily it wasn't enough to be noticeable.
"I have your daughter here with me," his grumbling falls silent, "the prospect you told to pick her up didnt come."
"Shit, I'll be there in five minutes, where are you?"
Once I hang up the phone, I feel a little hand tapping on my shoulder, I turn around and find Katie looking up at me.
"What's your name?" She asks, her voice soft and tentative. I clench my jaw tightly before replying.
"Rogue."
Her eyes scrunch up in confusion and I sigh heavily.
"It's my gang name." I reply flatly, I don't want Liam back so Rogue is the only name she's getting.
"Right," she bites her lip and steps back away from me. I sigh and turn my back on her again, casting my eyes outside I see the rain is still pounding onto the pavement.
All I wanted from today was to find a nice bar with a nice drink, instead I end up saving a nice girl from her own innocence and a cold.
After a few more moments of waiting in silence a car pulls up and I hear Katie sigh in relief.
"Thanks, Rogue." Katie says softly as she hands me my cut, walks past me and towards the now open car door.
I don't turn around until I'm sure Katie has walked past me, I don't want to risk angering my new president and Adrian warned me that even a look in her direction could result in his wrath.
Finally, I turn around once I hear the car engine starting again and look to the place where Katie was standing. I sigh heavily and then glance down at the ground.
My eyes widen when a vibrant pink bag catches my attention, Katie must have left it behind. With a curse I bend down and pick it up.
Unable to help myself, I peek inside. My eyes widen when I catch sight of the flimsy blue lace hidden in the shadows of the bag.
Well, I guess Katie isn't as innocent as her father would like to think...

I experienced profound injustice between 2004 and 2006. By opening with a story about suicide, I want the reader to understand that the injustice was not just something that happened long ago. This book is an account of all the accomplishments and successes that I had in overcoming tremendous odds and challenges. Growing up, I was paralyzed by shyness and lacked social skills, and so the idea of becoming a psychotherapist never occurred to me when I went off to college. I learned that I could overcome those limitations. I wanted to bring that hope and healing to others. Activities like that make life meaningful and bring me joy. The reasons why I was suicidal in 2019 were set in motion in 2000 when a meteor would come crashing down upon the life that I had built leaving me powerless to do anything other than watching everything burn to ashes - the home that I had, the life I had known, the love I had, my career, everything would disappear almost as if it never existed. In that one the year 2000, I could not imagine things could get any worse. But the nightmare would continue for the next few years... culminating in a suicide attempt in 2019. Now, I am connecting with others, building relationships, and finding a reason to live again. I am writing my own story of my life. I will fight against the injustice of the past and offer my gifts to the world. I have so much to offer. I have quite a story to tell. I hope you will help me to move on with my life.
