《Loveless Marriage》Chapter 8

I forgot about that.
I looked down at my wrists before pulling the sleeves back down. " You said you were going to help me bring the suitcase up?" I tried to divert the topic.
" We are not shifting from this step until you tell me what happened to your wrists." His voice roughened.
" Nothing, you don't need to fuss over it," I replied as I reached for the suitcase. His hand caught mine and he tugged it towards him.
He pushed the sleeve up as he looked at the dark bruises on my wrist. He gently touched it, cautiously looked at me to see if I feel any pain.
His touch now is so much softer than yesterday night. If he knew that he was the one who gave me those bruises, he will not be able to forgive himself.
" Don't worry. It doesn't hurt. It really doesn't hurt. I am really tired. I want to sleep, can I go?" I asked, not removing my hand from his gentle grip.
" Who did this to you?" His voice was as gentle as his touch. But I could see the fury in his eyes.
I looked at the housekeeper and motioned for her to leave. After she left, I faced him once again.
" If I said it was you, would you believe me?"

I got breakfast ready and placed it on the island. I was about to get myself some water when he walked in.
His reaction from yesterday night still played in my mind as I brought the cup to my lips. He smiled at me upon seeing breakfast, hot and steamy.
" Let's eat on the table. Come." He said picking up both plates. He walked out of the kitchen as I got us coffee.
I walked to the dining table, carrying the cups in my hands.
" How are your wrists?" He asked as I placed the cups on the table. " I am a doctor. I know what to do. Just start eating." I dismissed him as I sat down.

" I only asked because I care for you." He replied. I took a huge bite from my sandwich and wiped my mouth.
" Can we go through my conditions now?" I vocalized, hoping to grasp his attention.
" After work. We will discuss in the evening. Now let's enjoy our peaceful breakfast." He proposed, taking a bite from his.
I managed to finish my sandwich in a few bites and left my plate in the dishwasher. I was thinking about the times when he would just ignore me when I got reminded of someone very important.
I rushed back to the dining table to see him still munching on his sandwich. " Where is Matt?" My voice seemed to shock him as he almost dropped his sandwich.
" He's on leave. For about two months or so." He replied, blowing out a puff of air.
" I can drop you to the hospital if you want." He added, gazing up at me hopefully.
" Thank you very much, kind sir. But I have a driver's license, so you would not have to worry about me reaching work. I am going to need the key to one of your cars, sir." I bowed slightly, showing him as much sarcasm as I could.
He blinked at me for a while before shaking his head clear. He called for the housekeeper to get one of the car keys.
As soon as it reached my hands, I scooped my bag up and walked towards the parking lot. Clicking the button, I realized that the car that was given to me was a Royal blue Honda.
I smiled at the sleek looking car. Sensing that he was behind me, I quickly got into the car and started the engine. I pulled out of the parking lot and drove towards Joseph's house.
I parked the car outside and sent him a text that I was outside waiting for him.
Just then a new number called me.
" Hello?" I answered the call, hoping it wasn't a creepy person.

" Why are you not at work?" His familiar voice boomed clearly through the speaker of the phone.
" I am picking up a colleague. Stop worrying." I replied, getting fed up with his meddling.
" Female or male?" My jaw dropped at his question. " Does it even matter?" I replied, probably sounding like a 17-year-old teenager.
" Yes," He growled into the phone. " A male colleague. We are best friends." I explained as I saw Joseph locking his front door.
" He's here. I got to go, I will see you back at home." I ended the call without even waiting for his answer. Joseph opened the front passenger door and slide in.
" I am going to have a cool ride to the hospital!" He sang, making me crack a smile. " Oh Joseph, I wonder how your mom has handled you all these years." I silently sent her a prayer.
" Hey, my mom did not even complain. She said that my singing was cute." He protested. " By the way, whose car is behind yours?" He added, looking behind.
I turned in my body around to see a white car. As I squinted my eyes to look at the driver, a very familiar fuming face was staring back at me.
" Oh shit!" I cursed before starting the engine and driving as fast as possible in the narrow street.
" Is that Mr. Young?!" Joseph's surprised voice did not startle me. " Yeah..." I muttered before trying to exit the street. But before that, the White Mercedes swerved in front of my car and halted.
I pressed my heeled feet on the brake as hard as I could. My car stopped a few feet away from him. " What is happening? Why do I have to suffer with you?" Joseph complained making me swat him.
" Let's just say hell just broke loose. And I am not suffering. Stop complaining." I shushed Joseph as I saw him slide out of the car.
" Just stay here, don't come out no matter what happens ok?" I asked him as I removed my seatbelt.
" You make it sound as if he is going to kill you or something." I heard him as I opened the door.
" I mean it, Joseph. Do not step out of the car unless you want me to throw you out and never give you a ride ever again." I warned him before I stepped out of the car.
I walked towards him holding my face up high. I stood in front of him as he peered at me angrily.
" I didn't do anything wrong. Please move your car." I started, calmly. He first looked at me then turned his head to Joseph. I turned to look at him too.
Joseph was just staring at us before smacking himself and took his phone out, gazing at it as if it was the most interesting thing in the world. I turned my gaze back to him and saw him just staring at me.
I am insecure about myself, and he is just making it worse.
" Who is he?" His voice had my heart pumping fast. " He's my best friend. I thought I already told you that." I replied taking a step back.
" Why do you have a male best friend?!" He asked taking a step closer to me. " I don't see your problem with that!" I shouted. His face hardened even more than before.
I should not have shouted at him.
His hands reached out and rested on my waist. He turned a hundred and eighty degrees with me and pushed me against his car.
" I have a problem as I don't trust him." He growled his hands tightening on my waist. Apparently, I was not gasping.
My anger seemed to overrule my phobia. My next words should not have even be spoken.
" At least he doesn't hurt me like you do, Daniel."
