《The Lilly Within the Ashes》Ch 1

I'm going off of 6 hours of sleep with in the last two days. My temper is wearing thin and if I have to hear one more bad th- "Boss we have a problem."
GOD DAMNIT!!! Without hesitating, I take my revolver out and shoot the man in the foot. A small whine escapes his lips and his body thuds to the ground. "What is it Vincent?" I grit through my clenched teeth.
The past week has been utter hell for me. It seems that no one wants to pay back their debts to me and I have had to kill about ten people already. That number will still be rising because there is a long list of idiots that feel like I will politely give them an extra month or two. Yeah, bullshit. To top it all off, my mother keeps calling and telling me I need a wife or she will find someone for me. This would have never happened if my younger brother never got married.
"The Devon family is dead sir." he whines out.
Just. Kill. Me. Know.
The Devon family owed me two million. I mean, it wouldn't make a dent in my bank account, but they were one of my highest borrowers. What shocked me was they were on another person's bad side. I mean, you're an idiot if you borrow from one gang, but you're basically signing your death certificate if you borrow from multiple.
I grab my phone from my desk and quickly call my second man, Anthony. "Get the cars ready. We're heading to the Devon residency to see if there are any survivors." With that I hang up.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Today was supposed to be a wonderful day. If someone told me that my outlook on my father would change and that both of my parents would be dead before we even had the birthday cake I made for my mother today, I would have laughed. But I'm not laughing. I'm not even crying. Sure there are tears going down my cheeks, but the shock of everything happening has not fully settled.

As my father and I were finishing up the "Happy Birthday" song, the door bell rang. My father got up to get it but once the door was opened, a gun shot echoed through the house with a loud thud of a body dropping.
A group of large men in ski masks came into the kitchen and quickly pulled my mother and I to our family room, tying us to the couch. "Where's the money?" The largest of the group grumbled. Neither my mother or I spoke. "I said, WHERE IS THE FUCKING MONEY?!" My mother grabs my hand trying to reassure me, but it does nothing. In fact, my entire body is numb. "Will-William tr-tried getting the m-m-money. Just give us two-two more weeks and we wi-will get it for you."
A snarl landed on his face. "Well your poor William is dead and if we don't get the money now, you will be with him in hell in a few minutes." My mother completely breaks down into loud wails. "What is go-going on here?" I ask confused. "Oh. Daddy dearest didn't tell you? He borrowed some money from me and had a dead line to give it back. He was over due. So I killed him. You and your mother will be next." After he said those words, he shot my mother dead.
A scream ran through my throat, echoing louder than the gun shot. I barely heard the group of men leave but I heard one of them say, "Burn it down."
Nothing registered until I saw flames lick the walls of my childhood home. My body went into survival mode and I quickly tried untying myself from the couch. Although difficult, I was able to un-connect myself from the couch moments before it caught into flames.

I quickly dropped to the ground for the ash was burning my lungs, throat and eyes and I was becoming blind and could barely breathe. Noticing that the entire house was completely engulfed in flames, the moment of dread hit me. I am going to die. Not just any death, I was going to burn alive. All because of something that wasn't even my fault.
But I wasn't ready to die.I couldn't die. I was only twenty-two, and just graduated from college. I was just starting life. Since there was no way out, I had to think outside of the box. Quickly crawling as fast as I could to the kitchen, I opened the refrigerator and ripped every piece of food, condiment, and shelf from the fridge and squeezed myself into it, shutting the door.
I waited. It felt like years but was probably a few hours. Moments ago I felt the fridge collapse on its side, informing me the roof collapsed. But I staid. Just hoping for a sign that someone will find me and help me. I was cold, stunned, and in pain. I just wanted today to be perfect, but all I got was a burnt house and dead parents.
With another hour in the fridge, I started to hear mumbling noises. At first I thought it would be the fire department or the police, but these voices sounded furious. I couldn't understand anything for the door of the fridge muffled their voices, but due to their tones, it reminded me of the men who ruined my life.
One moment I'm in the darkness of the fridge, and next a bright stream of light hits me, leaving me slightly blinded. "Hey Boss! I found someone!" a voice bellows, making me jump.
Loud footsteps came towards me, causing my body to shiver more. All I was able to see was an outline of a large man. I tried to curl myself up into the corner of the fridge, trying to keep distance from the man in front of me. Of course it was no use as large warm arms grabbed me gently. I weakly tried pushing him away while trying to scream. Due to all the ash I inhaled, scorching my throat in lungs, nothing came out of my throat but a tiny squeak.
I was curled into what I assumed was the man's chest, as my head laid in the crook of his neck and one of his arms gently stroking my hair while the other was under my butt, keeping my body to him. Within moments, everything else became a blurr.
