《Shy One (Completed)》Chapter 5

"She's malnourished, way under weight, and I doubt she's been able to shift in that condition." My ears rang with the sound of that dead, lifeless, voice.
"Is she going to be okay though?" Brennon sounded so worried, getting a mumbled reply, "What could of cause this?"
"Why don't you just ask her?" The lifeless voice spoke and I slowly opened my eyes to meet a pair of worried green ones. "Hello Miss Vennett, glad to see you're awake." I gazed slowly over to the same white-haired boy from the diner. He was still wearing a white t-shirt with a small coffee stain on it and a black apron.
"Hello." I squeaked, feeling my throat exceptionally dry. Brennon quickly handed me a glass of water and as I slowly brought it to my mouth to take a sip I saw a terrifying pair of blue eyes glaring at me from the corner of the room.
I almost choked, but managed to control myself enough to take a shaky gulp.
"You scared me there ya-know." Brennon collapsed onto the floor next to me, making me realize I'm on a couch in a rather nice living room.
"Where am I?" I look around, trying my best to ignore the blue eyed boy.
"At my pack house." Brennon answered, "And don't worry we already contacted your alpha to tell him you're here."
"No," I whispered, he shouldn't have done that. The alpha is going to be pissed that the beta of River Side called him talking about me, especially that I'm on the River Side territory. "W-what time is it?" I felt my hand grip the fleece blanket, trembling.
"Just 4 o'clock, why?" Brennon looked down at his phone then back at me.
No.
No.
No.
This can't be happening.
I shot out from the couch, almost collapsing from the sudden change in elevation. "I have to go back home." Brennon wrapped his arms around me, trying to keep my still. "I'm late." I tried to struggle from his hold on me, the alpha long forgotten but I now saw the luna standing next to him and watching me with her wide baby-blue eyes.

I guess the rumors were true.
She's gorgeous.
Long angelic blonde hair that reached down to her waist, fair skin that hand not a single blemish on it, a model-like body paired with her exceptional height, and full pink lips with her button nose. She looked so elegant and beautiful.
A perfect match to the alpha.
"Mable calm down!" Brennon managed to sit me back on the couch, "Just rest, you aren't in any condition leave." He held me down by my shoulders, and my nerves were going crazy. I started to hyperventilate, trying anything to feel relatively calm and in control of my situation to no avail.
"Beta, I think you should give her some space." The white haired boy pulled at Brennon just slightly, enough to give me some breathing room. He proceeded to kneel by me, resting his arm on his knee while looking at me with those lifeless eyes. "Actually I was wondering if I can be alone with her, just to talk about her health and such."
Brennon looked at me for approval and all I could do was stare at the floor and focus on breathing. Soon enough he left with my mate and the luna.
"Mable, do you know what I am?" He asked, looking at him closely he had a more lean build than most of the other werewolves I've seen, and his skin is so much paler especially with his white locks.
"A w-white wolf, right?" I whisper, taking the glass of water once again and taking shaky sips.
"Yes, and you are aware white wolves have powers right?" I nod, "Then I will tell you that my powers allow me to see the body and soul of a wolf, that's how I know you are abused in your pack and that your mate recently rejected you."
I clench the cup but still reluctantly nod.
"I'm Clint by the way, and I know what you are. " He spoke like that meant something to me, "You know what I'm talking about right? You being a black wolf."
That's when I froze, I don't really know anything about black wolves other than what Boras had told me about them. But I didn't know I was one.

"T-that's impossible. " My voice was barely above a whisper. I couldn't process this new information.
"Trust me," Clint was absolutely serious, "Mable, you're more special than you realize."
"I-I don't understand." I held my head, trying to process all this.
"Well, the council has decided that all black wolves been eliminated so that's probably why you don't know anything. The council usually just has be find and report black wolves but I think I can make an exception." Clint gets up, going over to a briefcase and pulling out a notebook. "Can I ask you some questions now?" He pulled up a ball point pen, clicking it and preparing to write.
I nod, getting over the fact that the council wants me dead.
"Good," he scribbled something, "Have you ever experienced a burning sensation in your chest or fingers?"
"No." What an odd question.
"How about a cold sensation in those same areas?"
"No."
"Have you taken any potions or serums made by witches."
"Well," I started, getting his attention, "I've been taking a medicine for my pain since I was young."
"Pain?" Clint questioned, his interest growing.
"I used to get pains in my chest that would spread to the rest of my body, like I was being cooked alive. My caretaker at the time started giving me this really bitter medicine that would make the pain go away, but it made me really tired and frail. I still take it though, the powdered version. The nearby coven still makes it for me but in that version since it's more concentrated now that I'm older."
"I see." He scribbles everything I just said down, concentrating very hard, "I'm going to have to call your alpha."
"No!" I shouted out of instinct. "I-I mean, why?"
Clint gave me a raised brow, "Well I was going to call him to ask to hold onto for just a bit longer, I need to monitor your health so that you can recover quicker. After you recover I need to see you're abilities to gauge how strong you are as a black wolf. If you aren't that much of a threat the council may pardon you. I'll just see how well you fight and that will probably be that."
"I can't fight," I blurt out.
Clint paused, looking up at me with a blank look, "What do you mean? Don't you get trained?"
"I'm an omega, they don't waste their time on me." I whisper to the ground, "But either way I'm useless. I can't fight, can't run, can't swim or anything physical." I sighed, looking at Clint directly in his eyes, "Look at me. I am plain, too skinny, average as all heck." I felt brave enough to scoff, I mean, at this point...what is the point, "Even my mate doesn't see any worth in me."
Clint was silent for a while, just staring at me, "I see it."
"See what." I croak, my eyes burning with the threat of tears.
"Your worth," he clarified, "You are strong, maybe not physically but I can see your soul and it's stronger than even the alpha of this pack. It's alive, you are alive, and that's why you are worth something."
"Because I am alive?" A tear fell down my face.
"Yes," he sat down next to me, tossing his clipboard on the coffee table nearby, "You are alive and no matter what anyone says you have a purpose whether you see it or not. You may not see yourself as strong or beautiful but I can see your inner strength and your inner beauty. Even Beta Brennon can see it, and he obviously has no abilities."
I smile through my tears. I guess since this is coming from a stranger that it means so much to me.
"Thanks." I wipe my tears with my sleeve. "But what am I supposed to do if I'm going to be killed soon."
Clint looked hesitant, "You are going to hate me for this but I think you should move to this pack. They do train their omegas very well and you can heal much better here while I monitor you. If I can prove your usefulness, you most likely will be pardoned."
I nod, trying to process all of this.
Move in with my ex-mate and his luna.
Sounds like a blast.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
