Adriana P.O.V.
"Adriana see me after class."
I paled as Mr. Martin glared at me from his desk. I felt my nerves spike and my tired eyes blinked. I was exhausted but I had to stay strong for my mom. She had always made me promise to complete high school and go on to college. I had worked my ass off every day to make sure I had the highest grades to get into a good college. I felt myself smile faintly at the thought of becoming an accomplished doctor. I would make lots of money and could afford a huge house. I would marry Jake and have a small average family. They would have his blue eyes and dark hair with my personality. Dad would come back from wherever he was at the moment and hug me and tell me how proud he was of me.
The bell ran loudly, snapping me out of my happy daydream. Everyone filed out of the room, leaving me behind. Mr. Martin cleared his throat and gestured to a wooden chair beside his desk. Feeling lightheaded, with nerves, I rushed over and plunked down heavily in the chair. Mr. Martin pulled a single paper out of a folder on his desk and handed it to me. My green eyes widened in horror. My hands shook slightly as I stared at the grade at the top of the paper. I squeaked out thinly,
"A-A-An F?"
Mr. Martin looked concerned as he peered at me. He sighed and clasped his hands together on his lap.
"As much as I dislike you, Miss Layman, you are an excellent student. This, "He paused and pointed at the test in my hands, "is not you. And you look ill. You aren't focusing on math anymore. Are you all right?"

I felt surprised at the blatant concern etched on his face. I nodded, still feeling pale and nauseous from my test results. Mr. Martin sighed and turned to his computer,
"Just this once will I excuse your test. But in return, however, you have to go home and rest."
When I opened my mouth the argue he simply raised a hand, cutting me off,
"I can call your parents if you need me to."
I shook my head vigorously and stood up, shouldering my book bag.
"It's ok I will just go home now."
Mr. Martin peered at me thoughtfully from behind his glasses and I felt my heart pound uncomfortably against my chest. He finally simply nodded and turned back to his computer, his silence telling me I was allowed to leave. I shakily rose to my feet and rushed out of the room, feeling Mr. Martin's confused gaze on my retreating back.

I opened my locker and began throwing my books and binders into my plain black backpack. I glared at my trigonometry book sitting at the top of locker. I stood on my tip toes and strained for the book when I deep chuckle rumbled behind me and a chest pressed against my back. The wonderful woodsy manly scent of cologne wrapped around my and I took a deep breath before turning around.
"Hey Bookworm. Your a little inchworm aren'tcha?"
Jake snorted at his own joke and I felt myself blush. I hadn't talked to him since I had messed everything up at lunch. I smiled weakly,
"Well I'm not exactly tall like you are."
Jake chuckled again and I felt myself blush hard. I loved it when he chuckled like that, it made the butterflies in my stomach flutter. Jake ruffled my hair playfully and teased,

"Where are you going Bookworm? Ditchin' school huh?"
I blushed harder and shook my head, snatching my trigonometry book out of his hands and stuffing it in my bag. I gave him a shy little smile before closing my locker and walking away. When I glanced back Jake was watching me with a knowing smirk on his face.

I flung my book down at the rickety ugly coffee-table before staggering to my bedroom. I nearly walked into the door before lazily kicking it open and dragging myself to my tiny bed. I took of my glasses and collapsed onto the bed fully clothes, instantly falling into a deep dreamless sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I growled irritably at the persistent knocking at my front door. Sleeping in jeans was virtually impossible so I had changed into a large plain black t-shirt that barely reached mid-thigh. I groaned and slammed a pillow over my head. The knocking grew louder and more insistent. I threw the pillow at my wall in frustration and slithered out of bed. I growled at the door,
"I'm commin' I'm commin'..."
Whoever was there must have heard me because the persistent pounding stopped, leaving an uncomfortable silence in my ears. I unlocked the multiple chains on the door and threw it open, ready to confront whoever had ruined my day off. When I saw who was standing there I slammed the door in his face. I grabbed my hair in my hands and inwardly wailed,
"Why the hell is Jake here?! Oh God he saw my with my hair in a rats nest and a big t-shirt Oh my God! What is he even doing here?!"
A deep chuckle came from the other side of the door and a chill ran up my spine. I cautiously went to the peep hole and peered out. All I saw my a startling blue eye looking back at me. I let out a startled yelp and Jake laughed. I cracked open the door and remained where he couldn't see me.
"What do you want?"
Jake shoved on the door, trying to get me to open up but I pushed back harder. I wasn't about to let him see me like this. I closed my eyes and sent a quick prayer to God.
"I'm here to pick you up."
I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and frowned. I threw the door open all the way and looked him in the eye as I demanded,
"Pick me up? Where are you taking me?"
Jake smirked and I felt fear make the hairs of my neck stand up. There was something terrifying about that smile. It looked fake and dangerous.
"To my house of course."
