《The Claim ✔️ *Editing*》9. Truth

I woke up the next morning feeling incredibly warm. I opened my eyes and was met with a warm chest. I don't know when, but sometime throughout the night, I must have rolled over so I was facing Titus.
After a hell of a hassle. I finally managed to squeeze my way out of his grip. I was standing on my side of the bed staring at Titus. I crossed my arms over my chest. Despite my anger towards him. I knew things would work out. Titus had been in my life for seven years. There was no going back now.
I stared at his sleeping figure. He looked peaceful. He lay on his back with one of his arms draped over his eyed.
I made my way towards the bathroom. Opening the double doors examined the room. This bathroom was nice. It had double sinks, a nice modern shower and a huge tub in the center of the room.
Okay Titus, I'll give you this one.
I turned the nozzle for the bathtub and let the water begin to fill the tub. Searching through the cabinets for soap and conditioner, I came to discover all my bathroom items sitting under one side of the sink. He even added some bath bombs. "Well he had everything planned out perfectly, huh?" I whispered to myself.
I threw one of the bath bombs in the tub and watched the water turn dark blue.
Cool.
I took off Titus's shirt then eased into the tub. I instantly relaxed as soon as the water touched my skin. Once I was done cleaning myself, I brought my knees to my chest and just let the water soothe me. I tried to clear my mind but of course, my thoughts had to come to the surface.
My parents had to have known. And Carter? I don't even want to believe that he was in on it too. I can't believe I was so oblivious to all the signs. I mean it made sense that I'd be his mate now that I think about it. He was always so protective of me. I always just thought it was him acting like a big brother. I was wrong.

I stilled, sensing his presence before he made it known. I felt his eyes trail down my back in a heated manner. I squeezed my knees tighter to my chest, feeling slightly uncomfortable. He cleared his throat. "Brinn."
"Titus." I said, keeping my eyes glued to the now faded blue water.
He walked past me, then pulled out the chair from the vanity and placed it in front of the bathtub. He sat in the chair, raking his eyes over my body. My anger resurfacing, I snapped my eyes to meet his. "W-what?" The confidence I planned on having quickly failed with one look at Titus.
He sighed. "I'm so sorry Brinn."
He ran his hands through his hair as I rolled my eyes. "Why? Why'd you keep it from me for so long?"
"When I found out you were my mate, I was shocked. And a little scared if I'm honest. I was eighteen at the time. Finding out a ten-year-old is your mate was...odd. My dad didn't believe me at first. In fact, he laughed in my face. When he realized I wasn't joking we set up a meeting with your parents immediately." I casted my eyes downward.
"After the meeting, we all came to the agreement that you weren't to know until you turned seventeen. I would visit your pack once a month, just to keep an eye on you. But it was still hard on my wolf. He needed his mate and you weren't around. And when you were, there was always this restriction." A pained expression formed on his face.
"When you started growing close to that Carter kid. I went on a rampage. I made your parents let him know that you belonged to me and for him to stay away. But you just kept finding your way around it." He says through gritted teeth.

"I'm sorry." I say in barely a whisper.
He shakes his head. "You didn't know."
And that was the problem.
"I wanted to tell you so bad. But I knew it wouldn't be fair to you. I couldn't be selfish."
I narrow my eyes up at him. "How would that be selfish?"
"I couldn't take your childhood away from you Brinn. All you would have thought about is being a Luna and my mate. You shouldn't have to worry about that as a kid."
"That wasn't your decision to make!" I shouted. I placed my hand on my chest. I needed to calm down. I could feel my wolf rising. We didn't want a repeat of last night.
He held his head down, ashamed. "I've always thought of you as my brother. It's just...weird I guess." He nodded then stood.
He walked over to me and placed a kiss on my forehead then left the bathroom, leaving me to my thoughts.
I took his departure as my chance to get out of the bathtub. Besides, my fingers were starting to look like raisins. I wrapped a white towel around my hair and my body then walked over to the sink. I brushed my teeth and washed my face then left the bathroom.
Titus was on the edge of the bed scrolling through his phone when I entered. "Um..." He snapped his head up to meet my gaze. "Did you move my clothes?" He nodded then stood.
I followed him into a nice sized walk-in closet. His clothes were on the left side and mine were on the right. "Thanks." I muttered.
"I'm going to go take a shower." He announced.
"Okay." He shot me a weak smile then left me alone in the closet.
In the middle of the closet stood a chest with several drawers. I opened one of them and found several pairs of my underwear neatly piled.
Sure he had fun unpacking these.
I pulled out the overly nice underwear Alex had gifted to me then slid it on. I decided to do something simple for my outfit, so I picked a blue t-shirt dress with a tan cardigan. I was tying the laces of my white converse when Titus walked in with only a towel around his waist.
He was drying his hair with another towel when he sent me a smirk as he caught me staring. I quickly finished tying my shoes then moved onto my hair. Grabbing a brush, I and walked over to the full length against the back wall.
Titus got dressed while I attempted to style my hair. I was pulling my hair into a ponytail when our eyes met through the mirror. He pulled a white shirt over his head then walked towards me. I directed my gaze to the ground, trying to hide my reddened cheeks.
I won't deny it, Titus was hot. But it just felt weird for me to think of him in that type of manner.
The moment I looked up, Titus is directly behind me. He placed his hands on my waist. He nuzzles his nose into my neck, taking in my scent. He lifted his head up and stared at me through the mirror. Hazel meeting stormy grey.
He smirked at me, knowing the effect he was having. And just like that, he dropped his gaze then left out of the closet.
I sat their breathing in small pants and confused as hell.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.
