《Cry For Me》Chapter 36

Camryn's POV
"Aimee!! What the heck are you doing here?!" I ask excitingly as I make my way around the counter to hug my favorite cousin. It's been so long since I've last see her, I barely recognized her. She's almost as tall as me, her straight dark brown hair now reaches her waist, and her tan skin is all cleared up. Even though she's only a freshman I feel like she's all grown up.
"Well I had to do something since you went all MIA on me," she laughs, hugging me tightly. I quickly get back behind the counter.
"How'd you get over here?" I ask as I continue to wipe the already clean counters.
"I'm on break so I begged my dad to drive me down here, I already dropped my bags off at your place and figured I'll wait here until your shift is over," she explains. She lives about an hour and a half away so we don't see each other that much during school.
I forgot that her school gets two weeks for thanksgiving break whereas mine only gets one. I wonder how it's going to be next week. I've never spent a holiday without both of my parents.
I shake the sadness from my head and try to focus back on my cousin.
"So what has been going on with you Cam?!" She practically yells at me. "First, you stop talking to me out of nowhere, then we hear you got into an accident and now apparently your parents spilt up?"
I'm surprised that the only thing I'm focused on is that she didn't ask about Colton, but then I realize I've never had the chance to tell her about him.
"I'll explain everything on my break, but I need to take orders," I say quickly, moving from behind the counter over to the tables. I don't want to talk about all the bad things that happened, well at least not yet. I just want to tell her the reasons why I'm happy, but I need to get through this shift first.
After a couple of hours over serving and cleaning, Abel tells me to go on my break. I jump into the booth Aimee is sitting in.
"Okay, spill," she says, putting her phone down.

"Okay, first I stopped talking to you because I was... distracted, but it wasn't intentional."
"You got a life? Whaaaatttt," she jokes. I roll my eyes and fake a laugh.
"Anyways, as for my accident, it was pretty bad and I'm completely healed now, but I have this sick ass scar on my stomach, I'll show you later," I say, knowing that she was going to ask. "And then there's my parents. My mom and I caught my dad, you know, cheating, so she kicked him out." I look down at my hands.
For some reason I feel embarrassed. I always bragged about how perfect my parents were, about how I always wanted a relationship like theirs, but little did I know that it was all a lie.
"Aw Camryn," Aimee says, moving from her seat into my side of the booth. She hugs me tightly.
"I'm okay, I guess. I just feel bad for my mom," I tell her. "But you're not going to believe what I'm working on right now."
"You're not going to try and get them back together are you?" She asks.
"What? No, I'm looking for my birth parents," I say with a small, nervous smile.
"Oh!" she says, clearly surprised. "I uh, didn't expect that, but that's cool Cam. Does your mom know?"
"Yea, she was pretty upset about it, but it's something I have to do, you know?"
"Yea I get it," she says. "So is there anything else exciting going on?"
I smile at the thought of Colton. In my opinion, he's the most interesting thing about me. As I'm about to tell her al about him, my phone rings. I glance at the name. I hold my finger up to Aimee as I answer the call.
"Speaking of the devil," I laugh into the phone.
"What?" Colton says confusedly.
"I was literally about to talk about you to my cousin Aimee, she's visiting for a couple days," I tell him. Aimee has a confused look on her face.
"Oh cool, I thought I'd call you on your break to say hi, but I'll just see you and your cousin after work, I'll be there at nine," he says quickly. He sounds weird and somewhat nervous.

"Are you okay?" I ask a little worried.
"Yea I'm fine, I'll see you at nine, bye, I love you."
"Um, okay I love you too." I can see Aimee's face go into complete shock as I hang up my phone, but all I focus on is the way Colton quickly got off the phone with me. I look at Aimee wait for her to close her mouth.
"LOVE?!" She screams. "YOU LOVE SOMEBODY?!"
"Oh look at that, my break is over," I say, glancing at my wrist. I push my shocked cousin out of the booth so I can get out.
"Cam, you can't just leave me hanging like that!" She says, following me to the counter.
"Sorry cuz, I have work to do," I say, escaping into the kitchen. I find that it's funny to leaving her guessing. The look on her face is enough to lighten my mood.
I laugh to myself as I lean on the sink.
"You got yourself a crazy cousin there." I turn to see Ryder stirring soup.
"Yea, she's something," I laugh. "Speaking of cousins, yours is my partner for a math project," I tell him.
"Nathan?" He laughs, "good luck." I laugh with him and then Abel comes into the kitchen.
"Cam what are you doing back here?" she asks with her hands on her hips.
"Avoiding her cousin," Ryder chimes in.
"Girl, you is always running from somebody," she laughs. "Make ya self useful and throw together 3 servings of salad."
I listen and start chopping up lettuce. It's funny how when I was avoiding Colton, Abel made me go back out and serve him coffee, and now look what happened. I have myself a hot boyfriend that I love. I honestly think Aimee is going to faint when she sees what a catch he is.
After what feels like forever, my shift is over and Aimee is sitting on the edge of her seat at the counter.
"Okay speak. Now," she says as I make my way to Abel for my check.
"Um, I'm not a dog," I say, brushing her off. I can tell the suspense is killing her. I haven't seen her in forever, it's about time I get to have fun with her.
Abel hands me my envelope and I stuff it in my apron pocket. I grab my phone and see I have a message from Colton telling me he's here.
"Alright, Aimee you're about to meet my boyfriend so act normal," I say nonchalantly as I walk towards the exit.
"You have a boyfriend!" She cheers, pulling me in for a hug. "What's he like? Is he cute? Is he nice?"
"You're about to find out," I laugh. I pull her outside and see Colton parked right in front. He's outside leaning against my car, but as soon as he spots us, he makes his way over. Aimee's grip on my arm tightens.
"Hey babe," he smiles, acting completely normal. He snakes his arm around my waist and kisses my cheek.
"Omg!" Aimee screeches next to us.
"And you must be Aimee, it's nice to finally meet you," Colton says, shaking her hand.
"It's uh, nice to, um meet you too," she stutters. I can see that Colton's handsome looks are having an affect on her.
"Shall I get you ladies home?" Colton asks as he opens the backseat door for Aimee. She doesn't say anything, she just awkwardly laughs and gets in.
"Since when are you such a gentleman?" I ask after he closes the door. He seems to be more relaxed than he was on the phone. I want to question him on it but I know that now is not the time nor the place to discuss anything serious. Especially with Aimee here with us.
"I'm always a gentleman," he smirks as he pulls me in for a kiss. His hand makes its way down my back and he pitches my butt.
"Hey!" I laugh, swatting his arm.
"See, always a gentleman," he winks at me as he opens the passenger door for me. I climb in and he shuts it. He seems completely fine, maybe it was nothing. I decide to brush the whole thing off, I'm just overthinking.
"Camryn," Aimee says from the back.
"Yeah?"
"I like him," she says, patting my shoulder.
I smile and let out a huge sigh. "Yeah, well, I love him."
