《Cuore Mio》Chapter Four - First Day

I was walking down the street, towards my house after buying the groceries, when I heard the distant wail of sirens.
I thought nothing of it and continued walking. As I got closer to the house, I could hear the sirens become depressingly louder.
Panic arose within me as I thought of my parents in the house.
I gasped in shock as I saw police officers and my neighbors standing in groups, crowding around the driveway of my house.
Without wasting another second, I ran into the house without thinking. I saw my parents lying on the floor with their bodies covered in blood, the crimson red liquid oozing out of their heads.
Both of them had bruises and cuts all over their bodies. They were tortured and then killed, with a bullet would right on the center of their foreheads.
I bend down to the ground, crying, shutting out the voices of the police officers telling me to stay away. I cried and cried, hoping I would wake up and all of this would just be a dream.
I woke up with a start. Beads of sweat on my forehead with tears in my eyes.
I hated having these nightmares, it was a scene of my life from a few years back, that kept repeating itself in my head.
I miss my parents terribly. I cried so much when they passed away, I still do. Although I loved them dearly, I couldn't make them stay.
Their hearts have stopped beating, with their caring hands at rest. God broke my heart to prove to me that he only takes the best.
I wiped my tears away and crawled out of the bed. I went to bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror.
My, my...my hair looks so beautiful, just like a bird's nest ! Lucky me. Note the sarcasm.

Today is my first day at Romano Industries and I can't afford to look sloppy. I have to look decent, at least.
I took a warm shower and started dressing up. Wearing a sleeveless plaid shirt, paired with black trousers and black heels, I was ready.
I tied my hair up into a ponytail and wore silver loopy earrings. Applying a little makeup consisting of concealer, for those dang dark circles and a little lip gloss. I was now ready to leave the house.
Picking up my purse and keys, I walked out of the apartment, while simultaneously texting Kim, telling her I wouldn't be able to pick her up. She replied with an 'Okay, Lea.'
I got into my car and started my journey to Romano Industries. It was quite close to my apartment; which is a plus point.
Getting out of the car, I stood in front of the building. It has the words 'ROMANO INDUSTRIES' in capital letters.
I entered the building, and my God ! This place is so beautiful ! I stood at the door, mesmerized by the modern architecture of the building. The floor was made of marble, a medium sized fountain in middle and a beautiful chandelier.
"Are you going to stand there and ogle at everything, or come up ?" A voice says.
I turned to my side only to find Dante there with a smirk on his face. He was wearing a navy blue Armani suit, with his hands in the pockets.
"I wasn't ogling, just taking in it's beauty." I said, defending myself.
"Oookkaayyyy. Let's go, I can show you around." He said, dragging the 'okay'.
I walked beside him, discreetly staring at everything we passed by.
"I think you got some drool there." Dante said amusingly, pointing to the edge of his lips. Okay, maybe I wasn't that secretive. While walking beside him, I got some weird glances and stares from his employees.

If you want autographs or pictures from me, just ask, y'all !
Dante showed me around the building. They had a classy lounge room, huge conference rooms, a grand restaurant and a bunch of other rooms I can't remember.
"And lastly, my office." Dante said holding the handle of a large mahogany oak door.
He opened the door and gestured me walking first. I entered his office and..his office is so boring. The whole building has a pretty architecture, but this room is plain.
"This wasn't what you were expecting, was it ?" Dante asked while he closed the door behind him.
"Nope." I answered honestly.
"Well, actually-" Dante was cut off when his phone started ringing.
"I'm sorry, I have to take this. I'll be back soon." I nodded and he walked outside. I took a seat on a small couch near his desk and waited patiently.
A few minutes later, a young woman, about my age, maybe a little older, entered the room.
She was wearing a formal outfit alright.
It's just that the clothes are two sizes smaller, her skirt a wee bit too short and her face was caked with makeup. She looked around a bit, probably searching for Dante, when her eyes landed on me.
The woman gave me a revolting look.
"Who are you ? Why are you here ?" She asked in a disgusted tone, pointing an accusing finger at me.
What the hell ?
"I'm Azalea." I said, politely. Maybe I shouldn't judge her character by the way she looks. Maybe she's just worried for Dante's safety.
"Are you trying to steal my man away from me?" She asks, with a scowl on her face.
Hold up.
StEal hEr maN ? What the is this woman talking about ? I took a minute, trying to analyze what she meant.
Then, realization hit me like a truck. The way she dresses, the way she spoke to me. Dante is her...man ?
"What are you doing here, Violet ? Didn't I say I was busy ?" Dante asked the woman, who I now know as Violet, irritated.
When did he get here ?
"I just wanted to ask you whether you need lunch brought to your office or not." Violet answers in a seductively, leaning on his desk behind her.
"No, I'm good. Please leave now. I have business to get to." Dante answers. Violet leaves, but not before giving me a nasty glare.
"I'm sorry if she said something to you." He says, apologetically.
"It's alright." I answer, genuinely.
"Let's start, shall we ? I'll show to your office and introduce you to our IT Department." Dante asks.
"Sure. Lead the way." I say.

The Nightcore Trilogy
Going to space was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime, but for Reece Danielson and his crew, it was only the beginning. As the fresh astronauts aboard the Zhengzhou International Space Station start their on-the-job training, Reece is shown a discovery that changes his entire worldview. It isn’t long before a tragic accident aboard the station sets off a series of events that not only puts the crew in danger but at odds with each other. The events quickly escalate into a man-made apocalyptic incident on the surface of the planet. A virulent plague is prematurely released which transforms everyone into flesh-eating undead, and that is only the beginning of the troubles. There are far worse things down there than zombies and possibly a few of them lurk on the station itself. The Nightcore Trilogy thematically begins with a heavy sci-fi feel coupled to a gritty space-based horror mystery. The story's layers are slowly peeled back, evolving into something much more supernatural, mythological, and high-fantasy-based. It's a mix of elements from survival horror, zombie apocalypses, ancient mythologies, supernatural stories, and harem anime. It contains semi-descriptive sex scenes (traditional and non-traditional), descriptions of gore, profanity, and adult situations, so I recommend it for mature and open-minded audiences only.

Draugr Cell //Layer 01-- Investiture:
With the end of the only war to ever reach mainland Australia I found myself living out of a small room in an old military compound that had been handed over to the jurisdiction of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The end of the war, unfortunately, didn't mean the end of hostilities. The terrorism trend that had started back in the early 2000's with the attack on the world trade center over in America, had spread to just about every country on the face of the planet. Over time the constant threat from various groups meant the civilian police force was quickly undermanned, under equipped, and overwhelmed. They were simply unable to respond to the daily threats in any reasonable time frame, and in many situations lacked the both the skills and equipment required to deal with the threats to put them down in a 'safe' and expedient manner. Veterans of the war that were being reintegrated into society however, were just about everywhere, all the time. We have the training and the skills required to deal with just about any threat you care to mention, all we needed was access to the equipment to do so. In a world first, under the new Veterans program, the Australian government had taken the rather controversial step of allowing specifically selected veterans to go armed in public. Sure, with Australian weapons laws being very, very strict there were a number of hurdles to get over first, but that's where the selection part comes in. Tangentially that's actually how I met Brianna, my current partner. We work as ringers in Victory City, I thought being thrown into imptomtu combat operations and risking my life on a daily basis for barely livable wages was excitement enough. Then I met her... it... I don't know. An AI unlike anything else out there has wedged itself into my life and decided it needs to... look after me. What could possibly go wrong? **** This is the first book I have released, and my first entry into a cyberpunk universe. There is minimal drug use, a fair amount of sex, a bit of gory violence, and a sultry AI that has decided the main character needs a harem.

Myth of The World's Trees
And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. I was present now, at this moment, at this point in time. I could feel the electrifying air saturating my lungs, the electrified ground vibrating at the rhythm of the approaching enemy. Then I took a step forward, everyone followed in tandem. Camilla the first, and then the others. Then I took a second step, and this time everyone followed simultaneously. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Then suddenly, everyone disappeared into motes of light particles that re-constructed itself hundreds of feet above the horde, dozens of miles away from our initial position. We were literally 'diving' into battle.-------------------------------------------------------------------Despite a rough childhood in the slums, Omari had everything a guy could want - a loving girlfriend, an understanding sister, a wonderful teacher, and his dream job.
