《Cuore Mio》Chapter Forty Three - The Search

"What do you mean 'you don't know' ?" I asked Kim who was speaking to me on the phone.
"I mean, I have been calling Lea since 8:30 pm and she hasn't been picking up. Then I called Dante but it went straight to voicemail.
It's 9:00 pm now." She explained, panic clearly evident in her voice.
"Maybe their just busy." I told her. "I'll call them, wait." I said and hung up.
Dialing Azalea's number, I put the phone to my ear and waited for her to pick up. When she didn't, I called Dante but he didn't pick up too.
Okay. Now I was starting to get worried. It's probably nothing for all we know but as the underboss of the Italian mafia, I have to take matters into my own hands.
I called Kim and told her that I would look into it. She said that I should call her if I did find anything, to which I agreed.
I decided to check their house first. On the way there, I called Liam, Noah, and Dom; yes all of us started calling him that.
He never liked nicknames but allowed Azalea to call him that so we did too.
I heard that Liam has been busy for the last few weeks but we are going to need all the help we can get.
On reaching there, I spotted their Dom's car. Together, all three of us went in because we couldn't afford to waste time, waiting for Liam.
I took out the spare key I had and went in, Noah and Dom following me. When we in checked all the rooms in the house but couldn't find them.
"I checked the entire house. They're not here and neither are their phones." Dom said, coming to the living room where I was standing.
"Okay, so that confirms our assumption. They were taken." I stated.

"I don't think they were taken from the house. I hadn't seen any of their cars down." Noah said, tapping something on his iPad.
"So, here's what we have." I stated. "They aren't here and neither are their phones.
They haven't been answering their phones for the last two hours, which is very unlike them."
Then I thought for a second. "Well, at least Dante." I corrected myself.
"Maybe they were taken when they were out." Dom said.
"Yeah, about that...." Noah's voice trailed off. He came closer to where Dom and I were. He played the security camera footage of the house.
All of us craned our necks to see what he found out. It showed Azalea coming out of the house in a hurry and going into her car.
The time stamp showed that this happened at 8:16 pm.
"Aaanndd...." Noah paused, typing on the iPad again. "This is at Romano Industries."
Once again, all of us carefully observed the camera footage. This time we saw Dante rushing into his car in the parking lot of his company.
"Alright." I said, which caught their attention. "So this was a set up. They, as in Dmitri and Elijah, called both of them separately and told them something which made Azalea and Dante rush to wherever, quickly."
"Yeah. But they would have to get someone that both of them trust. They wouldn't have gone just blindly." Dom analyzed.
"He does have a point." Noah said, nodding. "But who ?"
"Is there any other traffic camera footage of them ? Or at least one ?" I asked and Noah held up his index finger as to say, 'just a minute'.
As he did so, I mentally made a list of everyone both, Azalea as well as Dante, knew and trusted.
After crossing out names like mine, Noah's, Dom's, and Kim's, I was left with Liam.

I've always liked Liam, but recently, he's been acting weird. When I was about to tell Noah and Dom my new-found theory, Liam entered.
Oh shit ! I forgot that I had called him here. Why now ?
"Did you find them ?" Liam questioned, looking at the three of us.
"No. Not yet." Dom spoke up.
I swear that I almost saw a slight smirk on Liam's face listening to Dom's answer.
But it went as soon as it came. I don't think that Noah and Dom saw it.
Even though I felt like he was, I had to be sure. So, I thought of a plan.
Realizing that he was probably going to sabotage everything here, I said, "We need to check the security cameras. Also, we have to interrogate the guard on duty right now. Could you please call him?"
"Yeah, sure. I'll be back." Liam replied and then walked out to the front of the house.
"Did ya'll see that ?" I whispered both of them in case he was listening in on us from out.
"The fact that he looked happy that we hadn't found them ? Yes. We did." Dom whispered back.
"That sick bastard has been the mole all this while." Noah said. His voice held anger.
When Liam came back, he said with fake worry, "All the camera footage has been destroyed.
I even asked the guard but he said that he didn't know where they were."
We just watched them, you imbecile ! Oh, I'm so gonna kill this motherfucker when we find Azalea and Dante.
Trying to play it cool, I answered, "It's alright. We'll find him."
From the corner of my eye, I gave Dom 'the look' and he, almost immediately, responded with a slight nod.
Before I could blink my eyes, Liam was on the ground with a gunshot wound on his leg.
He sat up and clutched on to his bleeding leg. "What the hell ?" He shouts at Dom.
Is he for real ? He's he still trying to play innocent ? Wow...
Dom went closer to him and then hit Liam's head with the butt of his gun, but not before saying, "Goodnight, ass. May you have terrible nightmares."
Noah and I checked at his words. "I'll call someone to take him to the cells back at the base. Death will be too easy for him." Dom stated.
I nodded in agreement and called Kim to update her on everything and told her not to worry.
She wanted to come and help but I told her to stay at home and increased the security around her house.
Then went back to checking security cameras. We checked all of them and each of them at different intersections, led us to two locations.
One was a hospital, where Azalea stopped. And the other was an empty parking lot.
The three of us went to both places and found their phones on the ground.
Okay, so someone abducted them from here.
Then we took the security footage and cross referenced it to the timings that they could've reached those places.
At both of the places, a black Cadillac Escalade stopped at where they were and took them.
"Zoom in on the number plate." I told Noah.
When he did, we found those vehicles but it took us some time to find out their location because there weren't many cameras on they're way there.
The next day....
After staying up almost all night, searching for their location, we found an abandoned warehouse in Dmitri's name which was close to where the camera footage stopped.
Now we are driving towards that area. I only hope that we are going in the right direction.

Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
