It was already afternoon when they finished.
Gu Chunzhu and Su Wangqin busily packed the rabbit and badgers skin on their basket. When they saw the rotten vegetable leaves on the side, Gu Chunzu asked if she could have them.
There were only a few insect holes or yellow leaves on it anyway.
: "If you don't want these vegetable leaves, can I have them? I'll take it home and make pickles"
"Well, Its not worth alot of money. I used to give it to people"
Guisao agreed and helped her put it on her back basket, while sighing she said
"Chunzhu, the next time you deliver prey, lets chat again."
"Let's see each other next time "
Gu Chunzu was afraid that this season, there might be no prey in the mountains, but she still smiled and said goodbye, carrying a basket on their backs.
She and Su Wanqin left the backdoor of Xiyinglou.
The two were already starving.
Walking on the stone paved street of the county. Gu Chunzu pointed at the stall.
"Brother Wang, lets buy two pancakes to eat."
"Okay" Su Wangqin listened to her.
Gu Chunzhu looked at Su Wangqin gratefully. The heavy broken basket was also on his back, her own basket was empty. She went to buy two pancakes quickly.
A copper for two. The pancake was made of course flour with a bit of sweetness enough to satisfy their hunger. She also asked the brother vendor for two bowls of water.
The two put down their back baskets and crouched beside the stall without taking care of their image.
After biting the cake, they felt comfortable on their belly.
Gu Chunzhu stopped after eating half a pancake.
Su Wangqin looked at her, he thought of what she said last night so he took the cake she had not finished and ate it himself.

"If you can't lose weight, just eat."
Su Wangqin gave her a distressed glance, drank the water, got up and gave the bowls back to the vendor.
Su Wangqing didn't mind eating half of his leftover pancakes. Gu Chunzhu had a feeling that she couldn't speak, she had never done such thing before.
She was still in a daze when Su Wangqin took her arm and pulled her up. "Hurry up, the oxcart is about to go back to the village, if we're late, we'll have to stay the night"
They walked quickly.
Su Wangqin's legs and feet were difficult to walk so Gu Chunzhu said, "If we can't go back on time, we'll just stay in the county for one night. We have earned a lot of money!"
"Okay." Su Wangqin responded but his pace didn't slow down.
They have arrived at the ox cart place just on time. The two catched up their breath.
It was another two hours when the oxcart arrived at the town, the sun setting.
Gu Chunzhu still had something to do and counted ten copper plates from his arms. "Brother Wang, please buy two steamed buns for your mother and bring some delicious food back for the children. I'll go to the stall. I did n’t come to sell river prawns today, I want to know if there were any inquiries”
“ OK. ”Su Wangqin took the copper plate and walked towards the bun shop.
Gu Chunzhu hurried to the stall without stopping, she saw the vegetable uncle loading his Chinese cabbage into his bamboo basket then carrying the pole on his shoulders, ready to leave.
"How's the business today sir?"
The vegetable uncle looked up and saw Gu Chunzu, he put the pole down on his shoulder and warmly greeted;
"Sister-in-law, why did you arrive so late, All the people in the market have gone away."

" I went to the county to do something today. I just came to ask if someone inquired about the river prawns. "
Gu Chunzhu asked, his eyes curving.
It was dangerous for Su Wangqin to enter the mountains and there's less prey in winter. Its also a good idea to fish shrimp everyday.
The vegetable uncle was also not able to keep his mouth shut, so Gu Chunzu took his time to ask questions.
The vegetable uncle took out his tabaco and held it in his mouth for a while. He spat the smoke and said "Yes, how can there be none. Since my stall is next to you, I'm also here to take care of your place"
"Alright then I'll be going now. My family is still waiting for me." Gu Chunzu said before leaving.
"Sister in law your bowl!"
Vegetable uncle anxiously reminded.
Gu Chunzu remembered that she left it with him when they exchanged his cabbage to her shrimps.
She hurriedly took it back and went to find Su Wangqin.
When she came to the steamed bun shop, she ran into Su Wanqin head on.
Gu Chunzu had a bad premonition when she saw that his hand was empty and even his basket was gone.
"Brother Wang, What happened?"
Her voice eager.
Su Wanqin's head hung low, he remained quiet. Gu Chunzu felt anxious.
Did he encounter someone from the Su family and robbed them? She couldn't help but stretched out his hand to hold his face and when she was about to repeat her question, she saw that his face have been scratched several times, and there were bloodstains on it.!
"What's the matter? Are you not gonna say it?" Gu Chunzu stomped his feet, she forgot to remove his hand from his face. "Is it robbed?"
"No." Su Wanqin lowered his eyes.
Gu Chunzu made up her mind. She remained on her spot. Su Wanqin had to tell her what happened or they wouldn't leave.
"Let's go back..."
" No, unless you tell me what happened"
Seeing her so stubborn, Su Wanqin pursed his lips and could only tell her the truth "When I came out of the shop, I met mother saying that we have no honorary filial piety throughout the year so..
"I know there would be no one but her!"
Gu Chunzu's fist clenched.
Su Wanqin was consistent with her conjecture but she also felt strange that Old Mrs Su took things away and even scratched his son.
She couldn't help but wonder and say "Didn't we ask her to look after the children? How come she is in town?"
"It's not my mother, it's your mother." Su Wangqin's voice was even lower, his face was also very unsightly.
Gu Chunzhu's mother, Gu Hao also said a lot of unpleasant things before snatching their things away.
After hearing this, Gu Chunzhu's face turned green with anger, so it turned out that it was the original owner's mother.
She searched through the memory of the original owner. Her mother was a mean woman, she neglected the dowry of twelve silvers and did not even gave her a quilt. Fortunately, the original Gu Chunzu secretly stuffed a silver hairpin for herself.
Gu Hao married her in Xiaohetou Village and only came visit twice. Taking whatever she can like a storm. She was even more ruthless than the Old Mrs Su.
"No things can be taken away from us!" Gu Chunzhu recovered.
Although Su Wangqin only had three rabbits skins and a pile of rotten leaves on that basket, they were their few possessions. Others shouldn't be accustomed to taking their things!
What if they have more family property in the future, she'd even be more excessive.

Take care luvs♥️
