"STOP! Please stop!" I screamed as Mr Morgan once again lunged at a blood-riddled Phillip who was trying to escape his grasp. A mist of blood covered the air around me and I covered my face with my hands and curled myself into a ball as my body froze with complete and utter fear of everything around me. The screams of terrified people in the restaurant filled my head like shards of glass, making me hold my ears and close my eyes so tight that my face hurt. "Please! Stop!" I whispered as I was too scared to make any other sound. My fear was suddenly heightened as I felt a pair of arms around me trying to pull me away from the wall.
"Let me go," I screamed as I kicked and punched the air around me. The arms around me did not budge; in fact, they just grew tighter around my body. I felt myself pulled against a hard chest in what seemed like a second and I flew opened my eyes with my last strain of courage and was ready to fight for my life no matter the outcome. I had to get out of here. "Get off me you monster... Callan?" I stared into the brown eyes of Mr Morgan's son as he carried me out of the restaurant scooped me up in his arms. "What are you doing here? How did ......? Oh god, where is Mr Morgan?" I turned to look back at the table, but the restaurant was almost empty, just some people running around looking for exits terrified. "Where is he? What just happened?" I cried out in a complete panic.
"I don't know, he called for me, and I rushed right here. Are you ok?" We were outside the restaurant now, and the cold air was filling my lungs as my heart raced inside my chest.
"I'm. I'm ok I guess." I checked myself for blood or missing limbs. "Callan, what the hell? There was so much blood and screaming and Mr Morgan he...I can't believe that just happened. We were just talking and... Wait, he called you?" I suddenly realised I was still in the arms of Callan, and I instantly clung to him like a second skin as fear took over my body once again. "Let's get out of here. I can sense danger coming again." He took off across the road so fast that the cold wind felt like it was cutting my skin. He ran over to another street and stopped abruptly. I dug my nails into his skin as tears fell from my eyes.
"Ebony, it's ok. I will get you away from here." Callan said not even reacting to my nails clawing at his back.
"How did you know to rescue me?" I said breathlessly trying to calm myself down before I had a heart attack.
"My father called for me," Callan said again looking around almost too calmly, his eyes scanning the pitch-black night for signs of danger.
"He called you. How could he call you?"
"No, he called for me. When you share a bloodline with another vampire, you can call for them when you are in danger. I guess it's kind of like an instinct or a sudden urge to be somewhere. He called for me to come here and I found you hiding at the table. What happened?" He placed me on the sidewalk and took my hand in his. He leads me through the streets of the dark city. "My father was gone by the time I turned up." He placed me back on the ground and once again looked around in the darkness of the night like an animal sensing danger.

"That murderer Phillip turned up and wanted to speak to me, and Mr Morgan was furious. He just attacked and the next thing I saw blood flying everywhere and Phillip wailing in pain. Callan, it was a massacre in there. I was terrified. I couldn't move." I stopped to catch my breath. "Callan, how did you get here so fast? I thought you were all at the airport?" I put my hand on my chest and took deep breaths.
"I ran." He took my hand in his and pulled me towards another street behind us.
"You ran?" He was walking so fast that I had run beside him.
"I run fast," he pulled me into a dark alleyway and stood next to the wall of a huge building. I reached out and used the brick wall to catch my breath once again. "Callan, where are we?"
He looked up to the top of the building and then back at me. "Ebony, I know you are scared and confused right now, but I'm going to need you to do something for me and not ask too many questions."
"That doesn't sound promising."
"I know but, I need you to hold on very tightly to me right now."
"Wait? Where are you going? Where is your father? I think I should wait for him; he might be hurt or something?"
"Ebony, I need you to hold on to me and not let go; we are going to the safe house to meet the boys and get out of Germany. It's just not safe here. I need you to trust me and hold on." his arm was around my waist tightly, and he picked me up with one hand and put me on his back. "Do you trust me?"
"I mean, I don't have a choice here, do I?"
"Well, you do but you might not like the outcome if I leave you here. Now, I need you to hold on to me like your life depends on it and don't look down," and before I could even say another word, we were scaling the side of the building like Spider-Man.
"What the hell?" I yelled, wrapping my arms and legs around him tightly. "How are you even doing this?"
"Shh," he whispered as he hid on the wall above the alleyway. "They are here."
"Who are they?" I whispered and before he could answer me, I heard a voice below us where we were just standing.
"Where is she?" A loud, gruff voice bellowed from the alleyway. I looked down to see a group of four men in suits. "You're sure this is where he took her?" The big man said, grabbing another guy covered in tattoos by his shirt collar. I recognised the man with the tattoos straight away from the other night at the brothel.
"He's here, boss; there is no way he could escape. I can hear her heart pounding," he said.
"We are in the middle of the human world dickhead, of course, you can hear a human heart. They are everywhere." the big man yelled in his face. "I need that girl so my brother will give me the amulet. Find her." he pushed him backwards, and I watched as they walked out of the alleyway. They stopped just at the entrance and began talking loudly again.
"Shit, we're stuck. We are going to have to go up. Hold on." Callan said quietly as we started to scale the building again.

"Oh, look what I have found. Just what I was looking for. Callan my boy, do me a favour and give me that girl." the loud gruff voice boomed as we climbed to the top of the building. "I don't want to have to kill my only nephew, but I will." he almost sounded pleased at the idea.
"Stay on my back Ebony; we are going to move quickly," Callan said, climbing onto the roof of the building. "My father is close; he is calling to me." he sniffed the air like a dog smelling meat and then turned to his left. "This way." he ran to the edge of the building.
"Callan, why must you make this difficult? Just give me the girl, and I will not hurt you, my boy," the loud voice calmly said behind us.
"She is not yours Leon, leave her. She has nothing to do with any of this, and neither do I. Your fight is with my father." Callan yelled into the darkness that covered the rooftop.
"Is that any way to speak to family now?"
"You are not my family," Callan said turning to the voice in the darkness. "You are nothing to me." Callan pulled me behind him holding onto my arm.
"I will be your worst nightmare if you try to escape me, my fight will be with you and I will hunt you down and destroy you." the voice growled like thunder. "Put her down and walk away son that is the only way you will make it out of here. Give me that human and I will leave you alone."
"Well then, I guess your fight is with me now," Callan said in a deep voice, I felt his whole body tense up.
"Callan," I whispered out in complete fear.
"He is close, just hold on." He said under his breath.
"As you wish." the voice growled from the shadows. "You shall both die." A huge figure appeared slowly on the rooftop. He was tall and extremely muscular-looking in his dark suit. His eyes were yellow, and his hair was jet black just like Mr Morgan's. He had dark stubble on his chin and a huge scar across his face like he had been cut open with a knife. Mr Morgan had a similar scar on his cheek, but it was much smaller. "I can feel my brother is close, so I'll make this quick," he sneered.
"Try your best, I dare you," Callan yelled to him. "Ebony, you need to hide." He said turning his head slightly toward me. Whatever you hear, do not come out." he said not taking his eyes off the other man. "Quickly, now." I did as I was told without protest and crawled behind a few boxes that were on the roof hidden in the darkness of this rooftop. I fought back the urge to cry and curled up into a ball.
"What a foolish boy. Choosing to die for a mere human. How pathetic." The gruff voice almost laughed.
"At least I will die with dignity, unlike my uncle who doesn't even know the meaning of the word." Callan showed no fear in his voice. "You want to do this? Let's dance."
The next thing I heard was the almost deafening sound of a wolf again howling into the night and then growling loudly. It was the most terrifying thing I had ever heard in my entire life, my whole body shivered in fear as I tried to block out the sound of the attack. I'm not sure how long I laid there, afraid to move, afraid to breathe.
"ENOUGH," a loud familiar deep voice boomed. It was so loud my ears hurt. "THIS ENDS NOW."
"This dear brother, this has only just begun. The war is coming, and I suggest you brace yourself for my wrath. I will have that amulet and I will kill everyone you know, and I'll start with that pretty little human over there. I'll hang her head on my wall like a trophy, just like our father." The stranger growled in pleasure. "I'll make you pay for the day you betrayed me; you will spend eternity praying for death."
"You're too late for that Leon, I'm already there. You can't hurt me like that, but I can hurt you," I knew that voice anywhere and my heart raced as I peered over the boxes. "You touch my son or my girl again and I promise you this war will end with your life. I killed your human tonight; don't make me end it with yours as well."
"You killed my human?" Leon took a step towards Mr Morgan, who was covered in dark red blood stains on his shirt.
"I did," Mr Morgan replied not moving, just staring at his furious brother. "And I enjoyed every second of it. His blood is flowing through me like electricity, so I dare you to take a step towards me, I have a serial killer's blood in my body and it wants nothing more than to shred you open and carve you out like a pumpkin. So again, I warn you to take a step." Mr Morgan's voice was low and deep and his body was ready for a fight.
"You will pay for this," Leon bellowed. "I'll make you pay for EVERYTHING," he yelled so loudly I had to cover my ears again. Leon knew better than to take on his brother right now and just disappeared into the night.
I watched as Mr Morgan clenched his fists and yelled loudly into the night. He was covered in blood and when he turned to me, his eyes were yellow just like his brothers. He just stared at me cowering among the boxes but said nothing. I was scared of him at that moment and wanted nothing more than to run away but instead we just locked eyes in the darkness. His body seemed to relax as we looked at each other and then he looked away as he closed his eyes tightly.
"Sir, are you ok?" I whimpered out.
Mr Morgan said nothing as he turned from me and grabbed his side, groaning in pain as he touched it. He was hurt and I could see black thick liquid dripping down his side.
Without hesitation, I ran from the boxes and to his side. "You're hurt." I put my hand over him as he tried to stop the black liquid from dripping.
"Why aren't you running from me? Aren't you disgusted at what you see? I'm a monster." he said quietly as I looked up into his big, yellow eyes.
"You're hurt and that's all I care about right now. I know you won't hurt me, I trust you, sir,"
He stared down at me on my knees as I took off my jacket and held it onto his side. He moaned as I pressed it against his side. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to hurt you, Sir."
"Carter, my name is Carter," he said softly as his eyes changed to their beautiful aqua colour.
"Are you ok, Carter?" I said smiling up and him.
"Are you ok?" He asked touching my face.
"Yes, thanks to you," I said feeling my heart race at his cold touch.
"Then I am ok Ebony Summers." he smiled down at me.

A Girl and Her Food
When a lost girl wakes up without a name, she quickly finds herself alone in a way that people around her can’t fix. Without a real plan and desperate to find what’s wrong with her, she thrashes and bites to stay alive. But human beings are weak things, that band together for strength, no matter who we are. Now if only she could work up the courage to ask one question... It’s normal to get stronger when you drink the blood of monsters. Right? Things to expect: - A powerful but kinda neurotic and emotional protagonist, with some degree of weak to strong. Or maybe strong to stronger, honestly. She's pretty rational and practical about things but won't always make the best decisions, so be warned if you super-dislike characters doing dumb stuff for emotional reasons sometimes. - Lots of dialogue and characterization, especially as we get more into it. It's focused on a single POV, but there might be some sections of other POVs later on, I'm not sure right now. - Magic is on the softer side, but I'll try to keep things fleshed out enough to avoid any obvious "well-established magic could have seemingly instantly solved this problem" moments. - I didn't add the mystery tag because I feel like it implies that this is a detective novel or something, but the story is absolutely incredibly opaque at times. So you'll have the most fun if you go into it trying to puzzle out the nature of events before they're explicitly explained!😇 - Also, I added the genre for completion, but it's gonna take a while to get to the romance. Please wait warmly and have some tea. Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge!
