《Save My Hope》23 | Trustful

I wake up in complete silence, still attached to an IV, but it's almost empty. I feel a lot better. Before the IV, I felt like I was about to die... I look over and see a piece of paper next to bottled waters and crackers in a box. I sit up slowly, grabbing the note and reading it to myself.
"I got called in for an emergency at the hospital. I will be back as soon as I can. Keep the IV in your arm and only leave the couch if absolutely necessary. The crackers are on the coffee table, and you have three bottles of water as well. Be home soon. Noah." I smile, happy that he left me a note. But I also shake my head, repeating the words "necessary," in my head.
I grab a bottle of water, take a few sips of it and grab the box of crackers. I turn on the television and flip through the channels. I stop at the news- Wow, they aren't talking about my mother or my family in general. Something tragic must have happened...
I sit there, listening to the reporters talk endlessly about things people need to know when I hear keys jingling in the door. I turn my head and see Noah walking into the door quietly. When he notices me, he gives me a big smile.
"Hey, you're awake. How are you feeling?" He asks, setting down his keys in the bowl by the door and hanging up his white lab coat.
"I feel a lot better. Thank you." I give him a big smile as he walks over to me.
"Better enough for me to take the IV out?" Noah sits on the coffee table across from me, looking at my arm then into my eyes. I nod my head, and he hesitates.
"I promise. I feel a lot better." Noah stands up and goes into the large closet. He hides all of his medical supplies in there- he grabs a pair of gloves, a cotton ball and a roll of tape. Noah shuts the closet doors and walks into the kitchen.

I observe him as he scrubs his hands and puts on the pair of gloves. Noah walks over to me, and I watch him as he undoes the tape. I look away, squeezing my eyes shut as he adjusts the needle. I wince as Noah pulls the needle out of my arm and presses the cotton ball onto my skin. I look down at my arm as he tapes it down.
Noah stands up, taking down the IV bag and disregarding it into the trash. He walks back over and takes the IV pole and rolls it back into the closet. I continue watching the news as he wanders back into his room. I hear him close his door and a few minutes later open it again. I peek over to see him, sadly, putting on a t-shirt.
"I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of food. Also, supplies for if we get snowed in." I nod my head, practically frowning at the fact he put a shirt on. "Also, you got a call from the police station. They left you a voicemail." Noah hands me my cell phone, and I look down at all of the notifications.
I unlock my phone, sighing at all the emails, text messages and missed phone calls. I go to the voicemails, and I close my eyes, feeling my body practically shake with nervousness. I open my eyes to see Noah sitting across from me, putting his hand on my knee in reassurance. I nod my head at Noah, pressing play on the voicemail and pressing the cellphone to my ear.
"Hello, Miss Marshall. If you could give us a call back as soon as possible, we have some news about your case."
The voicemail stops, and I slowly lower the phone. I look at the clock, and it is 12:45 in the afternoon. I press the call back button and put the phone back against my ear. After a while, someone picks up.
"NYPD. Officer Hudges is speaking."
"Officer Hudges. I am Phoebe Marshall, and you called me earlier this morning."

"Oh, yes. Miss Marshall. How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay. Nervous about what you have to say honestly."
"Well, we believe we caught him. But you will have to come in as soon as you can to identify him. We have him here on a drug charge but to put him in prison, we need your official statement."
"Official statement? You got my full report at the hospital. You even took photos of my injuries. Honestly, what else do you need from me." I look up at Noah, and he squeezes my knee. I close my eyes, listening to Officer Hudges sigh.
"We need you to identify him, so we know we have the right man. Also, so we can put him away for good."
"How about today? Can I get this over with today?" I open my eyes, looking into Noah's. He shakes his head at me, but I ignore him. I need to get this whole thing over with and forget about it.
"If you can, we will get everything done today. Just go to the front desk and say you are here to see Officer Sara Hudges."
"Thank you." I hang up, and Noah gives me a disappointed look. "What? Just say it."
"You should be resting still, Phoebe. You were just vomiting your brains out earlier today, and I had to put you on IV fluids. Phoebe, I just took you off of them! Now you want to go to the police station?"
"Noah, I just want to get this over with." I move the blankets off of me, standing up quickly. I feel myself getting dizzy and as I expected, felt Noah's large hands on me. "I'm fine; I just stood up too fast." I move his hands off of me and walk into my room. I change into a pair of jeans, a shirt, a long sleeve shirt and grab my coat. I groan putting on my socks and boots, but I suck it up, putting my hair into a low bun. I grab my glasses off the side table, put them on and walk into the living room. Noah is waiting by the door, dressed to accompany me to the police station.
"Noah, you don't need to go with me." I shake my head, wrapping a scarf around my neck.
"I'm driving. Let's go." Noah sounds annoyed and upset.
"I'm not going with you if you're gonna be angry at me, Noah. This whole situation is because of me. I can handle it by myself." I shake my head, putting on my coat.
"Phoebe." Noah stops, walking towards me. He puts his hands on my upper arms. "You aren't alone, and you aren't going without me. The weather is getting worse, and I'm not letting you drive in this weather." He then does something I wasn't expecting. He wraps his hands around me, embracing me in a hug. I look up at him, and he kisses me on the top of my head.
I close my eyes, loving this feeling of his arms around me and his lips on me. Instantly, a flashback to last night- oh my god I kiss him... and he turned me down! Noah backs up, and I open my eyes, clearing my throat. "Let's go then."
I grab my cell phone and my bag as Noah grabs his cell and his car keys. He opens the door, puts a beanie on his head and he stops me. I was about to say something when Noah grabs another beanie putting it on my head. Noah adjusts it, smiling down at me. I look down, hiding my smile as we walk out of the door. Phoebe, he doesn't like you-
As we are walking towards his car, I realise that I haven't seen Jay's face in over a week... He is going to see me... Oh no- he is going to kill me! I then feel Noah's large hand engulf mine. I look up to see Noah's beautiful face telling me everything is going to be okay, and for the first time, I believe it.
