《Strictly Professional ✔️》Chapter 20

"You can't do that" I argued but even I didn't believe my own words.
"I'm a man of influence Juliana, I can do whatever I like"
"You are despicable"
"You are impeccable"
"I'd like to stay that way"
"Why?"
"Because it's none of your business"
That was lame, so much for having a good comeback.
"You see Juliana I like to think before the thought is even there, you make me want to trap you in a corner with no way around,"
His intense eyes meet mine.
"And thoughts like that arouse me"
My eyes widened and I saw a opening under his arm, I ducked and got away to the opposite side of the elevator.
"Stay right there, don't move, I'm going to press the emergency button and get us both out of here because you're currently not in your right mind"
"What are you talking about?!"
But while he was talking I was already at the button and pressed it.
"Someone's bound to come at some point"
"Until then I think we should sit down and have a nice chat"
He sat on the elevator floor and patted the space next to him.
"I don't think so"
"Come on"
I looked down at the spot but took the one furthest away from him.
"I still can't believe you stood up a important client"
He sighed and pulled out his phone.
"Hello Ms. Clarkson (Paige), I would like you to cancel all of my meetings for the rest of the day"
"Yes, Ms. Downs called in sick and I had to escort her back"
My eyes widened at his capability to lie so easily and I so wanted to pull the phone out of his hand and tell Paige to get us out.
"Was that necessary?"
"Yeah, now you don't have anything to worry about anymore"
"Did you have to cancel all of your meetings?"
"Yes because that won't stress you out if I'm late to one"
"Thank you for being considerate"
We lapped into a silence.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot"
"Why don't you like mixing work with your personal life?"
"I mean, logically speaking I'm here to work, it doesn't make sense for me to come hook up with someone while I'm working"
"I don't get it"
"I'm guessing you haven't met someone that doesn't bow down to you"

"No actually" he smirked.
"Anyway, how can you not get it, I am your employee and you are my employer, in other words you command me and I'm your slave"
"Do I treat you like a slave?"
"Is that a trick question?"
"Hm"
"Hm yourself, you got us stuck in here so you better entertain me"
"Now who is whose slave?"
I shrugged and saw him get um and dust his pants.
"Are you finally thinking rationally and decided we need to get out of this elevator? By the way you really need to fire your maintenance department and tell the security never to let Issac in, I swear that man is bad luck"
"I do not object to both of that but I'd rather we stay here a little while longer"
"At least give me my phone back I can play some best fiends or something"
"Nah I'd rather have all your precious and sarcastic attention directed at me"
"I'd rather you sit down than have your ego go even higher"
Why am I so brave today?
"Julie since we are stuck on this elevator together let's not be considered commander and slave as you say, we're friends until we get out"
"Did I say that out loud?"
"You did"
"I know I'm gonna regret this but since there's nothing better to do I guess we could be friends, only while we are in the elevator"
He sat down next to me but I again scooted away from him.
"Distance so tell me more about your childhood adventures, you seem to have a way more interesting life than I do"
"Not much to tell, we're a wholesome family excluding my dad"
"Same goes for me but also excluding my brother"
"I had a pretty good childhood, my dad was barely home, my mom was the source of my happiness, I owe everything to her"
"I think you can pretty much guess how my childhood went, I was sick for the most part and working for the other"
"Sick?"
"Yeah because of it I was anti social, uninvolved, I was the girl in the corner no one knew about and one faithful day I became the sick girl who is pitiful and lonely"
"No friends?"
"Other than Kate none throughout middle school, I made a full recovery when I was in high school and changed a lot about my looks, I became the popular charismatic nerd"

"Was it a happily ever after in the end?"
"It was, I found my brother, I got a scholarship to an amazing university, then a great paying job working for the 'top dog' of the business world, what more can I ask for?"
I turned my head and he had the softest smile I had ever seen him in and he was closer to me than before.
He started in leaning closer when the elevator doors opened.
"Mr. Reid?!" I pity the poor mechanic.
"I'm not paying you to slack off"
"If I had known it was you in here-"
"Even of I was a guest I'd rather not be stuck in the elevator! You're fired"
"B-but why didn't you use your phone?"
"The battery is dead"
And I'm pretty sure that mechanic thought he was going to be dead too.
"Ms. Downs go get your bag and make sure Ms. Clarkson doesn't see you"
"Yes sir"
I guess he was serious when he said we are friends only while we are in the elevator.
I walked out and went towards the stairs.
"Ms. Downs, use the elevator"
"I think I'm traumatized to be honest sir" I chuckled.
He kept a blank face on, I cleared my throat, nodded and turned towards the elevators.
When I reached the office floor I looked around making sure the coast was clear and ran to my office which proved difficult even in low heels.
My feet were echoing all over the deserted office which is causing some unwanted attention.
"Julie?"
Busted.
"Paige hey!"
"What are you doing here? I thought you went home because you were sick"
I pretended to cough to maybe ease her suspicions a bit.
"I am, I just forgot my bag"
"Oh, I hope you get better soon"
I'm sorry Paige!
"Wait a second"
I stopped in my tracks, I closed my eyes and waited for what she is gonna say next.
"Where did Mr. Reid go?"
It dawned on me that he still had my phone.
"My phone!"
"What?"
"Nothing Paige I gotta go!"
"Careful! You're sick remember?"
"Sick my ass!"
That phone has everything in it! It might have a password but Mr. Reid already knows it!
If he sees all the embarrassing things in it I'll never be able to look him in the eye again!
You're probably wondering embarrassing like what?
No I do not take pictures nude, but when you have a wild friend at home almost everything is embarrassing!
And not to mention my music! Okay even if he sees everything in that phone I need my phone back for music alone!
The second I reached the lobby I saw Mr. Reid get into the limo and go.
I hailed a cab which was surprisingly quick but I got in and told the driver to follow him.
"Why should I?"
I knew it would be too easy.
"I'll pay you double, now go!"
"Deal!"
We followed Mr. Reid out of the city apparently he also lives in the city outskirts.
He stopped in front of a pair of big gates and got out.
He walked over to the cab and knocked on the drivers window.
"Mind telling me why you're following me all the way to my house?"
"Ask the lady in the back"
His eyes averted to where I was sitting and gave the driver a hundred dollar bill and opened the back seat and pulled me out by my arm.
"Keep the change" he muttered to the driver.
When the taxi was gone Mr. Reid looked at me and said.
"You're stalking me now Ms. Downs?"
"I- no- you- for crying out loud! Mr. Reid you accidentally took my phone! Finally!"
I was breathing hard and when I looked up Mr. Reid was staring at me with one eyebrow raised.
He reached into his suit jacket and pulled out my phone.
"Here you are Ms. Downs, you can leave now"
"Sir, you just sent the last taxi in the next ten miles away!"
"And?"
"Do you expect me to walk all the way back to my apartment?!"
"No, I guess not, would you like to stay over for an hour or two?"
I looked at him confused.
"I don't want to intrude, I'll also pay you back the money for the taxi"
"No need, I'll just deduct it from next months salary"
"Okay then"
We got into the limo and made our way to his mansion of a house, speaking of which I had never seen before.
It was gorgeous that's for sure.
When we got to the front door it was flung open revealing Mrs. Reid.
"Mother?!"
"Surprise honey! Ooh and I see you also brought a lady over"
"No mother, this is my assistant Juliana Downs, you met her at the event awhile ago remember?"
"Oh yes, I remember you, the beautiful sophisticated woman that was dancing with my boy in the end of the night"
"Mother"
"Oh hush Derick let's all have a nice dinner together, shall we?" She gestured inside.
This is gonna be interesting.

Petrichor: Act One
Cody is adrift. Emily is alone. Sara is spiraling into darkness. Andrew is out of control. Chris is losing his mind. Grace makes the mistake of being friends with all of them. The friendship these six share will forever shape who they are. In the town of Darkwood, Washington they are forced into the harsh reality of the world catching up to them. When their involvement in their friend's suicide catches up to them, how will they juggle their guilt, issues, and crumbling friendships that fall before them? This is a redux of Petrichor. I was unsatisfied with how the story went. I rushed things and left things to happen off-screen a lot. So I'm rewriting it, this time dividing the acts into their separate books to allow the characters to properly develop. The story will mostly stay the same but I'll fix all the plot holes I found and change some character motivations here or there.
