《Lich God Deidre》Chapter 01 – I’m a Fancy Skeleton

After countless tests, I was diagnosed with cancer. My fingers dug into the chair's armrests. It was a harsh reality to digest; my parents' farrago of expressions dwindled to nothing but pity.
And then it happened – I died. But not from the goddamn cancer!
Drunk drivers were the worst! Or at least I think he was drunk, but I never got to see the driver who T-boned the taxi I was in. The taxi was done-in so badly that I couldn't even get out the damaged car, and died before I heard EMT sirens. It wasn't painless either, it was horrible. I didn't even die amongst anyone I knew.
There I was thinking that my life couldn't get any worse after getting diagnosed with cancer. But I was stupendously wrong. After I my last breaths, it felt like I was floating away into the nether. It was soothing to say the least, and my worries began vanishing.
There was a calming light, not too bright, neither too dark, that sparkled slowly in the distance. I could feel myself wanting to go over to that beautiful light. But my spirit, soul, or whatever I was floating around as, began getting pulled into another direction.
The world before me now made no sense. I sat in a dark place. My vision felt like it was escaping me. Smell, sound, touch, they all felt strange to me. The dark place I was in felt ominous.
But before we get into all the juicy details, let's address the elephant in the room – my boney ass. My vision was weird at first but it cleared up the more I concentrated, and that's when I realized that my hand was made of bones. Nothing but bones. I was a skeleton, literally – no blood, muscle, fat, flesh, nothing.

The fuck's going on? I thought. Am I naked? Can skeletons be naked? B-but this is a sweet robe though, I feel magical. I admired the regalia I had on if only for a second because I knew I was about to lose my mind.
I was a robed skeleton that could move around without muscle, something only possible in one's imagination. It, by all standards of physics, was impossible. I rose from my seat, which was more akin to a throne, and carefully scaled down the steps. A long black carpet was rolled out until it neared the giant doors that led to the room.
High on the walls were beautiful stained-glass windows with creatures that looked just like I did. They all wore robes, some were depicted with fancy staffs and old, thick, hardcover books. It was weird to me so I scoffed at it, until I realized a staff, exactly like the one on the windows, was floating alongside me.
I jumped and took a step away from it, but it followed me around like a pet. The staff was black, with white rose-petal engravings along the body of it. To the top was adorned with a creepy skull with glowing white eyes. Well, it didn't have eyes per se, but the sockets glowed. Deep down, I could feel immense power from it.
What is this thing? I pondered to myself and was answered by my own thick black book. I suspected then that whatever I was, was the same as the creatures on the stained glass – to have both staff and book didn’t feel like a coincidence.
It floated up from my waist and opened itself up in front of me. Either this world had it's own Wiki or this book had a mind of it's own. There was a little photo of the staff on the top right of the right-side page, and the name of the item below the photo, 'Scepter of the Lich God'.

Lich God? Was that me? I rubbed my jaw that was surprisingly still there. I read the summary of the scepter. 'The Lich God created this scepter by using multiple casts of master-level magic, and adding copious amounts of his inextinguishable life force. The scepter can transform to any hand-held weapon to suit its master.'
I thought about this Lich God thing and wondered what it was. "Can you show me the page for a Lich God?" I asked. The amazing book did it's thing, and the pages turned. There was so much information and history on it that it couldn't be viewed on the spread of pages before me. In the summary, it said that I was an existence that started near the beginning of time, a pure immortal at the peak of magical prowess.
"Magic?" That sounds fun! I asked the book to show me what kinds of magic I could use, and a list of spells that was categorized by the difficulty level appeared. The book naturally changed the thickness of the pages to match the amount of information displayed. There were thousands of pages! I was scared to even touch them because I felt like they would tear.
It started with novice-level spells, then went on to apprentice, adept, expert, and finally master. In the master-level section, the types of descriptions I saw for the spells were world-altering spells. I mean, there was a spell that was able to summon a devastating meteor shower. Expert-level spells had stuff that was around the level of the most destructive natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, and category five hurricanes.
I walked around the room and admired the decor, but my mind was sweating bullets. A new world, many unknown things that scared the shit out of me, and the fact that I was now a Lich God were very jarring. So what is this? I died, but now I'm something that's been living forever. That's so confusing! The book immediately floated up to me again and opened its "Wiki" page on reincarnation, but I wasn't bothered to read it.
Who could be bothered to do research when a world of mysteries, excitement, and fun was just a grasp away? Well, that's the lie I fed to myself to keep some semblance of sanity. In truth, I was freaking out. I fucking died! Holy shit! But… I sat on my throne again and wondered how I should live this new life.
Alright boys, I don't know where I'm going with this one but it feels fun.
