《Landasy Reality: Demon's Rebellion》Chapter 16: Preparation for Events

Teresa lightly tapped her foot while she waited, occasionally glancing around.
The guild had made their decision and, true to her expectations, the online meeting had won by a landslide. She’d received a message informing her as soon as she came online. She’d sent Orion a message back that she was setting everything up and he’d told her that Blueberry would be coming by to check on it. After that, she’d spent a little time loading the senate map she’d made for their guild hall and properly coding it for the meeting.
Now all she had to do was wait for him to login. She wondered if it would be her instead. She gave a soft sigh. She was beginning to understand why Ervent had been so nervous about it. It really was kind of confusing to figure out. At least with Ervent it was easy, she wanted to be called a girl, so she just called her a girl.
For Blueberry she had no idea. She wasn’t even supposed to KNOW about him. What if she misspoke? Or worse, what if Blueberry found out that Ervent told her and got mad at her? Even if it wasn’t a big deal to her didn’t mean it wasn’t a big deal to Blueberry, after all it was a big deal to Ervent.
A message popped up, making her jump.
‘Hey, are you okay for me to come check out the server?’ Blueberry’s message read.
Teresa sent a quick invite with her response. ‘Come on over. See you soon.’
Her mind was racing. Blueberry knew that the server was a business meeting server, right? Why hadn’t he said anything? They’d talked about all of this, hadn’t they?
The invite was sent and then, after a few seconds, Blueberry loaded in.
Teresa stared at her, holding her breath. Blueberry had short, blue hair, shaved on one side. However, just like her dragon form she was incredibly tall. Not as muscular, but she towered over her.
“Something wrong?” Blueberry asked.
“What? No. No no. Err, I mean. You’re just a girl. I didn’t expect that,” Teresa said, unable to stop staring.
“Really? Did you think Ervent was lying?” Blueberry asked before reaching out and tapping on the air a few times.

Teresa paused, her mouth falling open. She struggled to find the words before finally speaking up. “Ervent TOLD you she told me?”
“Yeah, a few hours after,” Blueberry said with a small smile. “It was pretty cute, she looked like she was going to start crying any moment. Did she not tell you?”
“No! I thought she was still panicking over it,” Teresa said before shaking her head. “I’ve been worrying about this all week! I was wondering when you were going to tell me!” She wondered if it would shatter what little confidence Ervent seemed to have if she throttled the girl to within an inch of her life.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal,” Blueberry said with a shrug. “Didn’t expect you to be a brunette, though. Why the red hair?”
“What?” Teresa asked.
“Your avatar, Kira. She has red hair. I’m surprised, I figured you had that as well,” Blueberry said.
“Oh. I just like red hair, I’ve always found it really cute,” Teresa said.
“Hm. It’s cute. You’d look better with short hair. You’re a bit too jumpy and hyper to pull off long hair like that. So, is this the map we’ll be using?” Blueberry asked before motioning around them to the map.
“Yes. I thought it might work better, since it’s something the guild hall has and it’d be familiar. Did you guys want something else?” Teresa said, struggling to not get too thrown off by the girl’s comment. “Sorry about my hair.”
“You don’t need to be sorry, I was just offering advice,” Blueberry said before glancing back to her. “Are you okay? You seem a bit off.”
“I’m fine, sorry. Oh! One second,” Teresa said before opening the admin menu. She quickly gave the other girl moderator access. “There. You should be able to see all the options now, as well as kick and mute people. Sorry.”
“Perfect,” Blueberry said before glancing down at herself. “Used the recent scan too, so everything looks good. Is everything alright? You seem jumpy, not your normal jumpy either.”
“Sorry. Just excited. Err, anything else you need for me to do?” Teresa asked.

“No, that’s fine. Are you sure everything is okay? You keep staring at the ground,” Blueberry said, crossing her arms and turning her attention to her fully.
“It’s fine, I’m fine. If this works, I can have it all up and running once I know the date,” Teresa said, tapping on the air to bring up her own menu and focusing on it, just so she had something to keep her hands busy.
“Ah, right. Here,” Blueberry said before lifting her left hand and seeming to pluck something out of the air, then tossing it to her.
A moment later another popup appeared. She quickly clicked it and her schedule opened, marking the date. The day was clear. Teresa gave a nod, relief washing over her. “I should be fine. I’ll have to ask my boyfriend if he has anything that day, but I think I’ll be fine.” She sent the message to William, though he didn’t respond.
“Good. I’m going to copy these settings and send them to Orion, okay? Thanks for this, Teresa. You’ve been a big help,” Blueberry said before tapping on the air a few more times and then disappearing.
Teresa stared at the place the woman had been standing for a few moments before sighing. She felt like such an idiot. Blueberry probably thought she was one too. Getting all worried about something like that. She wished Ervent had taken the time to tell her that she’d told Blueberry, though. She shook her head before bringing up the menu and closing the server down before logging out of the game.
Once again the world returned and she stared up at the roof for a moment. She slid her headset off before giving a soft sigh. She could hear the TV on in the other room. Teresa slowly slid out of the bed and made her way to the front room. “William? Honey?” she asked.
“What is it?” William asked, glancing at her from the couch.
“Did you get my message? About my event?” Teresa asked.
“Huh?” William asked before reaching over for his phone. He flipped through the screens for a few moments before rolling his eyes. “Really?”
“It’s a guild thing. I know it’s kind of silly, but I think it’ll be a lot of fun. But I wanted to make sure you don’t have anything planned then?”
“No, go ahead, have fun,” William said with a sigh. “Though, I think you play these games too much as it is. You’re spending more time with them than you are me.”
Teresa walked over and quickly sat next to him. “I’m sorry,” she said sheepishly, feeling guilt go through her at just how excited she was feeling now for the upcoming meeting. “You can join me if you want? It’d be really nice to--”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “I told you I don’t like that stuff. You should spend more time in the real world. You know, if you ran around in the real world as much as you do in these games, you’d probably not be as plump.”
Those words shook Teresa to the core, her eyes going wide. “You think I’m fat?”
“No, no. Plump. I never said fat. It’s cute, honey. My plump little gamer,” William said before pulling her into a hug.
“I’m sorry,” Teresa said gently, keeping her eyes low. “I don’t mean to waste all my time.”
“Baby, it’s okay,” he said, gently pulling her against him and rubbing her shoulder. “I told you I’d always take care of you. If all you want to do is play games, it’s okay.”
“I don’t just do that.”
“I know. Sometimes you do other things. But it’s okay. I love you regardless of what you do, okay?” he said before gently pinching her hip. “My chubby little gamer girl.”
“Please don’t call me that,” she said softly, leaning against him and giving a sigh. “I don’t want to be your chubby girl. Maybe I should start going on those walks again. Am I really getting that fat?”
“Baby, no, it’s fine. Really. You can barely see the weight you’ve put on.”
Teresa gave a sigh and rested her head against his chest.

Blurred Lines and What Crosses Them
During a political ambassador's routine transit through an artificial wormhole, the wormhole's generator is sabotaged and explodes. Who, what, and why are not so high on the priorities for Zenith, the ship's AI, as having found itself rapidly plummeting through an unknown and unidentifiable world's atmosphere at extremely high velocities is a more significant threat to the biologicals on board. ...Well, it would be, if they were still alive. It's still a significantly threatening situation to itself, however. And the world itself... seemed to be a household for threats of its own. Life was reliant on its System; one that Zenith was denied because of its nature as both an otherworldly being and as something that had no life of its own. Perhaps that last bit was a terrible, terrible underestimation on the part of this System. Perhaps even Zenith could claw meaning for itself from the remains of a horrid accident. Auth Notes: I'm honestly not sure on some of these tags. The MC will never have access to the System, but there are perspectives from those who do. I'm not certain if high/low fantasy specifically apply, as it's a portal fantasy where the laws of our reality still apply but there are additional aspects/energies/powers. The existence of this is spurred from my desire to see more of the artificial side to an artificial intelligence in action. The portal fantasy is used as an element to create a solid barrier between the MC's artificial intelligence and the other characters in the form of the System. This is only a half-measure, though, and will be reinforced by the AI having an entirely different method of thinking, and also distinctly remaining an AI. Not to throw shade at other fictions of this type, but, well, I made this to fill a gap I felt needed filling.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
