《Rise of the Forgotten》Ch. 21 Betrayal and Combat

We arrived at the planet we are supposed to be at, only a couple of days late. As soon as we arrived the shuttles and my ship departed. Once we landed I asked Clarissa, the woman suspected of being a mole, to help me move something. She agreed to help me. I asked her to come aboard my ship. When she entered the cargo bay I immediately stunned her with my pistol.
I then placed restraints and a UE restrictor on her. I took her to the room that I had made for prisoners on my ship. I placed her inside a stasis pod and left Aldion to keep an eye on her vitals. I then told her crew and the rest of the escorts that she is being detained until further notice. They complained and asked why. I told them that I have permission to arrest anyone suspicious. They quieted down after that.
We then left the landing pads to go to the meeting place. The meeting place is held at a governmental building. The building is five stories tall and is quite wide. The building looked like it wasn't built but instead grown. The plant-like material fuses in a way that a normal building did not, the entirety of it looked like one big plant shaped building. Obviously of Tremslin make, no other species could make plants grow like that. Also that they were the only other sentient plant species.
We walked in with the guards taking their posts. Everyone is on a higher alert than usual, the previous attacks seemed to have spooked them. We were being led by a beast person, a classification of people who could naturally change into animals and had animal features. They led us to a large-sized hall used for the meetings between the various state and city governors of this planet. In the hall, the planetary governors of the sub-sector gathered to speak about the issues they had.
The meeting started like all the others that took place, with Nadira introducing herself and thanking them for gathering together, and progressed on without any problems. It was only an hour into the meeting that I noticed something strange, the hall is getting dark. It was a slow process and it was only until now that I took notice of the irregularity. I immediately contacted the other guards to be on high alert. I also moved closer to Nadira and had some people prepare the vehicles and escape routes.
As the shadow continued forward I immediately gave it my full attention. As if feeling my attention the shadow immediately shot forth. I instantly grabbed Nadira and ordered all the guards to gather at the escape point. With Nadira in my arms, I sped across the hall to the exit. The shadow took pursuit and chased after us. I was fast almost instantly arriving at the exit of the hall. The surrounding governors looked shocked though I could that some of them had hidden glee at the situation, I took note of these individuals. As soon as I left the hall I controlled my pace to not run into the walls.

The shadow didn't care about the walls and crashed into them, at what I guessed is their full speed, breaking the walls in the process. Running we met up with some of the guards, joining up with them as we did. Some of the guards tried to hold the shadow back but I told them to just keep running. We didn't want to lose people before we got to the vehicles. Running through the halls and making detours to make the shadow slow down we arrived at the prepared vehicles.
As soon as we arrived the guards immediately aimed at the shadow and fired. The shadow had to pause and put up a wall of shadow that absorbed the shots. The wall then moved to us as we got in the river cars. Once everyone was in we departed. The shadow continued to chase us. It was strange, the shadow could have attacked us when we were running down the hallway. I then scanned the area.
My scan made me realize that there were more traitors in the escort. I saw them aim our car and as soon as they did I took the wheel and rammed the car into them. The other traitor then fired at us, only to be stopped by the mini shield I placed on the car. So far the traitors only came from one group, The Silent Dawn. They were an average group mostly taking guard and escort duties. They had a higher number of ranged and stealth combatants. I then told the rest of the groups to keep an eye out for any more Silent Dawn. Afterward, I was told by Aldion that the Silent Dawn was guarding the shuttles and my ship.
Driving the car I led the way to the landing pads. The other attacking car was already dealt with by the loyal guards. As we approached the landing pads we were immediately fired upon. We returned fire. With the rest of the cars behind my car, we sped into the landing zone, the shield taking all the fire.
Once at the zone, we created a circle with the cars and got out. We killed the Silent Sawn members. After killing them all and taking casualties of our own we sent a signal to the ships in orbit to presume that The Silent Dawn were hostile. We then took off with my ship leading.
Once in orbit, we saw the Silent Dawns ship in waste; the other ships also took damage. We immediately had the shuttles dock. Once they docked a large group of ships appeared and attacked. Prepared we soon returned fire. We were now stuck in combat. My ship unleashed volleys of laser fire on the attacker, destroying some of them outright. The Knights of the Round Tables ship(gonna call them KRT) also unleashed fire on them. After a while, some of the ship's shields fell under the firepower of the large group. The ships in the group were not large but instead numerous and armed with as many guns as they could fit.

The fight continued for some time with the rest of the entourage being slowly overwhelmed by the amount of firepower being directed at them. This large group seemed like a swarm of glass canons. We took down many but more seemed to show up and replace them. Thankfully for us, the number of destroyed ships made it difficult for the swarm to attack us. The debris created a shield of sorts for us. We continued to fire at them, our ships just needed to fire and could hit them, their swarm tactic now acting against them.
They quickly realized this and then formed smaller more maneuverable groups. With these groups, they flew through the debris using them as shields and cover to hide where they would strike from. This worked on the other ships, their scanners being tricked by the residual energy of the debris making the attackers almost invisible until they attacked.
I then had my laser turrets come out and fire into the debris melting holes into them and breaking them apart with missiles. I slowly was making the surroundings empty. While doing this I was also destroying the hiding ships. Some of our ships were destroyed before I could make the surroundings empty enough.
The attackers also weren't being replenished. Now they took hit and run attacks on the remaining ships. We were now slowly whittling down the enemy. After a couple of minutes, they then made a head-on attack. Their ships charged at ours not caring for the incoming fire. When a ship was disabled or destroyed they just rammed them, continuing forward. Once they got through the shields they rammed the ships and started to overload their reactors. Quickly we made our shields completely solid and the remaining ships rammed into them and destroyed themselves. Soon the ships that got through the shields exploded in bursts of energy.
After the energy dispersed we saw that most of the ships were now destroyed. Only my ship, Nadira's, and the KRT's ships were not destroyed. My ship and Nadira's ship were completely fine with me and Aldion protecting us both. The KRT’s ship on the other hand was badly damaged, there was a massive hole in the side of the ship. Immediately I scanned the surroundings to see if there were any more functional ships. There were none.
After scanning I received a communication from the KRT ship. It said that their reactor core had been hit and was leaking energy and might explode. They also asked for help in extracting the crew to our ships. Nadir and I agreed and moved our ships closer to help evacuate the ship. We loaded Nadira's ship first as it was assumed that it could hold more people. After it couldn't hold anyone else my ship moved in. After a little bit of debating, I decided that I would let the crew occupy more than just the cargo bay. This would let them realize that my ship's dimensions didn't match but would let the rest of them live.
This would expose me but I just didn't care. Only destroyers, battleships, or dreadnoughts could get through my shielding with sheer firepower. I am going to have to make my ship larger after this and get a crew for it.
I then connected my ship to theirs and helped move the crew onboard. After moving them all I asked where the captain was. I was told that the captain was with the injured that couldn't be moved and intended to go down with his ship. I then rushed through the ship to where the captain was. I arrived at the site of bleeding and dying people, one of them was not like the others.
I then started to stabilize the closest person to me. As I was doing so the captain approached me. "What are you doing!? The ship could blow any second now, hurry and leave." He said in a deep and commanding voice.
"Shut up and listen." I barked at him, there was no time to waste. "I am going to stabilize everyone that I can and when I finish with them you WILL take them to my ship. Do you understand?" I said in my most commanding voice, still focused on stabilizing the person in front of me.
He tried to say something but I gave him a stern look that shut him up. He then nodded. As soon as the first person was stabilized I moved on to the next. The captain then took the treated person away. We continued until Aldion told me that the reactor was a minute away from exploding. There was only one person left so I picked them up and started to try to stabilize them on the way to the ship. We came across the captain coming back and he left along with us.
Once we were on board the ship Aldion disconnected us and led us away, 15 seconds later the ship exploded. After placing the last person in a healing pod I turned around to the questioning gaze of the former captain.

Madness Led by the Hands
‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’

Art of Mortality
New Synopsis after chapter 56: Long long ago, there was a mortal who despised the gods and envied the immortals. Why do the mortals have to die when the gods wish them to? Why do worlds have to perish when the gods say so? Why do only immortals get to live forever, why not mortals like him? As his family, friends, and his loved one died, he lamented. He wailed, he cried. He cursed the immortals, blasphemed the gods, spat at the heavens. But he was just a mere mortal. His curses were pointless, his blasphemous words were useless, and his spits only returned back to fall on his face. At last, he thought, enough was enough, he would definitely do something about it. He decided that it was time for the multiverse to know what a mortal can do. He was the first mortal to cultivate. Eventually, after a long struggle, he killed the Immortals, enslaved the Gods, and shattered the heavens. He reshaped the multiverse and rewrote his fate. In the end, he reincarnated as he decided upon a grand scheme, a scheme to rule 'All and Always'. He came up with the concept of what is known today as 'Paragon'. And with this, all of reality, 'All and Always', was finally reforming, according to a Mortal's Wish. Synopsis (Old): In the vast and complex multiverse, what can a mortal accomplish? In the grand scheme of things, what can a mortal change? In truth, what is a mortal, and what is mortality? Being mortal is being ordinary, the same as being trash, or so says The World. "No, mortality is an art, and a true mortal is a grand artist. Being the root of all, a mortal can become anything.", says a young mortal boy. Meet Edward Alexander, a mortal boy walking the path against gods and immortals, fighting to the end to rewrite his destiny, and change the grand scheme of things. Can he really change the grand scheme of things? Or maybe he himself is the Grand Schemer? To know the answer, follow Edward Alexnder on his journey to demonstrate the Art of Mortality.*******

Statless
Summary Alexander Weiss, an intelligent and slightly unusual man, always dreamt of becoming a mage. Sadly, reality is harsh and even his best efforts never allowed him to achieve his goal during his lifetime... or did they? One has to be careful what they wish for, lest they might live to see it fulfilled. Description Follow Alex, a man whose pursuit of magic could not even be stopped by his non-magical reality, going as far as to create it himself, only to encounter an unsurmountable obstacle shortly before achieving his lifes goal, denying him all access to these powers. His journey will take him through a miraculous world, full of wonders, magic and manic beasts trying to devour him! He will learn much about this world during his adventures, exploring individual aspects of the System and the various monsters that came from it... or did they? Strong points What you'll get from this novel is the following (read with overly enthusiastic salesman-voice) : • An ending! I'll complete it, no matter what. Well, not "no matter what", but as long as I don't unexpectedly end, this novel won't either! • Good grammar! Might not be perfect, but it's definitely good enough to not detract from the story in the slightest. I'll also fix any reported mistakes as soon as possible, be they grammatical, syntactical or just inconsistencies. • No plot-armor! Or plot-weapons! Or plot-... potions? And no plot-holes! If you see some, it's most likely information that is being witheld for future revelations! But in the (hopefully) very unlikely case of such a vile beast being encountered, please inform me immediately and I'll see to slaying it without grace! (Translation: If you see plot-holes, tell me and I'll fix them) • Logic! [Hidden : Spoilers][Hidden : More Spoilers] [Moved to Chapter [Hidden Spoiler]'s Author's Note] Marvelous, I know! • Blue Boxes! And maybe something more! • Sensible retroactive edits! Not to be confused with radioactive edits! You'll not have to re-read previous chapters, even if they get some major edits. If they were to receive new information, I'll add that very information to the newly released chapters too, in a reasonable way. • Realism! Shocking, I know! Especially considering the tag related to that and the point about "Logic!". This also means that the story will be... well, realistically depicting a pretty messed up world. Don't expect bunnies... at least not cute ones. • Relatively faster paced! No long and boring descriptions of irrelevant stuff. There will be some longer descriptions about important things, but that's gonna be necessary world- and/or character-building! • Short action! Might not be a plus for some, but you won't have to look at a whole (or, god forbit, multiple) chapter describing a fight against the same enemy... • Strategy and hard progression! It's a dog-eat-dog world! No grinding/power-creep! If you're up against three enemies of your level at once, you've already lost! • Understanding! It will be mostly about discovering the wonders of this new world and how it became like that, all while trying to survive. So there will be enough action nonetheless! • Humor! Sometimes dark, sometimes light, always at the worst moment! • Constructive critics, welcome! Destructive critics, nope... I can handle criticism though, so don't go easy on me! Just make sure it's really a mistake when complaining about something. • Will add more in the future! If I can think of more stuff...
