《Pocket Dungeon Lite》Chapter 4 - Generic Names

[Step 2 (Modded): Central Focus Generation]
This step was an important one because it would determine the concentration of certain elemental magic around it. This would also theme the land surrounding that central focus to a type such as a snowy forest, a very common but useful type for ice monsters. The reason behind why I chose this over the leyline pack because it doesn’t allow powerful sentients to abuse the power. Well not easily at least the method of doing this is chosen by the dungeon master but the mod pack allows for rules and restrictions to be laid down on the field of magic the focus creates and how it can be used or assigned to a monster/sentient to guard it. I could even designate the focus as an origin/spawn point for an elemental and set a spawn rate for it depending on how pure the focus is.
I first did some manual focus generation with emphasis put on the zone of the effect only being on the areas I wanted it to be in. For example, I placed a 50% time, 40% metal, 9% percent crystal, and 1% chaos elemental focus on the gear shape offshoot of the main continent. I made it so that the area of effect would only be that continent and the shore area around it even putting in a barrier with a source of energy the same as that of the Sun’s and the planet’s to keep sentients out and only allowing entry through the passageway connecting the gear land to the main continent.
While doing this I thought to give names to all of the things that I have created so that I could get used to them faster since I didn’t want to keep on saying the moons or the sun. I asked the rest of the team about naming ideas but all of us are terrible with names. Tet is just too uncreative and blunt simply wanting to name them sun, moon 1, moon 2, etc. Illyuz and Osprey make names too cute and unrealistic like Lulu (moon), Eddy (supposedly because it sounds similar to Red-y I don’t want to know), etc. Mine are usually hard to pronounce and based on ancient history or rare languages. So I just decided to make an executive decision to used thematically fitting, slightly boring, but appropriate names. The sun is Soliel, one moon Lunair the other Lulier I wanted it to be more meaningful so I went and change one of the moons to be a red magic material and the other to be a silvery-blue one both magic crystals with one being more death based (the red one) and the other being a holy/life-based. I also named the gear continent the Time Spiral which doesn’t make sense for the spiral part but it rolls off the tongue well so whatever.

After getting that all finish I went back to placing focuses I placed one in the middle of the main continent in the river running across it making it a 50% water, 20% nature, 20% earth, and 10% balance which I hoped would allow for a good mix of monsters that would be more of a natural standard fantasy type.
“Nadezh’ wouldn’t that just make a seasonal landscape?” Illyuz’ asked, startling me.
“Why would it?,” I questioned.
“Cause the water part is only gonna affect the river and elemental affinities of any sentients but the rest would mix and create a balance in nature and since you added earth that would be like seasons, wouldn’t it?” Illyuz’ answered making me realize my mistake.
But this could actually be an opportunity, going with the seasonal idea I split the continent again into four parts by both making a dead zone where there is a metal road going from the entrance from the time focus continent stopping at the river continuing by a metal bridge onto the other side and assigning a smaller focus to each zone. For the 2 on the top I made the left one a winter-based land by putting a 100% ice focus in the middle of it and the right one I put a 100% fire-based focus. This would be my summer and winter lands, while on the bottom left I made an Autumn biome by using a 50% wither (which I got from the More Elemental Affinities Pack) and 50% wind focus I, of course, adjusted the settings so that the wither affinity was a little scaled-down and would only cause the leaves of the soon to be created trees to be changed to autumn leaves and not die altogether. For the spring biome, I made the focus 50% life and 50% earth which would make everything bloom and be energetic there.
The main continent finished I made a mountain range blocking the way to the next continent and put a focus there with a randomized type for a split 50:50 percent cause I didn’t want to screw myself over if I got a full 100% chaos focus or something. I got a 50% holy and 50% light…’okayyy’ so looks like the rng system isn’t so random after all because if that combo was random than I have had to have the best luck ever or something. I quickly labeled the land the “Celestial Plane” since it seemed fitting. I zoned the focus so that it would only cover the “Celestial Plane” and the mountain range between it and not the main continent/“Eternal Seasons Domain” (I didn’t name this one it was Osprey).

I wanted to keep everything separate so I put a single tall mountain I made the biggest in the world, including under the sea, unlike real-life, on the pathway to the next zone and added a focus of 60% earth to 30% metal and 10% order (another of the More Elemental Affinities Pack) which should make it a really important place so another name was made “Mount Skyward” which was okay for our group. I put the 10% order in there because I already knew what I wanted to do for the next continent I was making an Eldritch/Zerg/Poisonous Alien biome with a highly likely chance that it will be an invasive species and unfriendly to other sapients so some natural barriers before the other races get strong enough to deal with it would be good.
So making the danger zone itself took some work. First I made a big lake directly in the middle of the continent which I put 2 pure (meaning it is 100% of an element) focuses in. The lake contained 1 poison (which was in a mist form perpetually making this place toxic) and the other containing chaos which will probably cause a ton of mutations and horrific abominations (Illyuz and Tet were cheering as I looked at Osprey and we both shook our heads simultaneously sighing). I also put a 50% dark and 50% death focus which will compliment the other 2. One final thing before I move on, I created small rivers running from the lake I put all the focuses in and spreading them all over the zone thus making a place that is pretty much a death trap to anyone not born and adapted to survive there.
I then repeated the pattern of making a mountain range to block the connection between the Eldritch-like zone to the next continent. Which looking as I got a celestial-like zone after my central continent I thought to make into the “Netherworld” which would make sense lore-wise. I added a 50% to 50% infernal and dark focus to the place which also extended to the mountain range that was between it and the Eldritch region. I named this the Netherworld for obvious reasons and the Eldritch zone the Nightmarish Wasteland again for obvious reasons.
A big chunk of my world finished at this point I moved quickly to do the rest. I made the big island to the right of the Nightmarish Wasteland my Living Plant Life Pack playground where I planned to put most of the creatures from that pack. I added a pure life focus to the area which I named Platuena Oraleas which I got from one of the fairy kingdoms of old story lore.
Next, I did the islands below the Netherworld continent which I named Infernal Chain since it was sitting directly over what would be the equivalent to the ring of fire area of real Earth meaning they would experience earthquakes and volcanic eruptions frequently. I added a single focus which I made include the whole island chain in its zone a 50:50 split of fire to earth thus expatiating the gimmick.
That done I moved on to the Japan lookalike chain of islands and took inspiration from real-life Japan to make it a spirit land or in this case yokai based land where I would try to create things like kitsunes, kappa, oni, etc. I added 2 pure focuses of the spiritual and metal types because I wanted to represent both the magical and technological aspects of Japan. I liked the country and wanted to respect its history and culture, “stop laughing Tet, I know I’m a history buff, shut up!”
Below that in the Australia-like continent (which makes me think that the world generation is really not that random) I just added a pure nature focus which I attuned more towards the deadly fauna type than the beautiful flora type because it’s freaking Australia the place with a thousand things that want, can, and will kill you. I don’t have names for these yet so I’ll just let the sentients name them themselves after they figure out language and such.
For the final continent (besides the poles and any other zones I want to make) that looked like two animals sewed into one I split it down the middle and made a stretch of land that is inhabitable thereby putting a pure focus of death that extended a little to the side and up and down the middle of the continent. I then added one less pure focus at a 20:80 ratio percentage on each side of the island with a metal to nature attunement. I left the name to the sentients because I was running out of thematically fitting name ideas.
For the poles, I added an 80:20 ice to nature focus for each of the poles and made them more powerful too cover all of the ground.
