《Beware of Zombies》Arc 2: Chapter 2

Darren leaned against his seat while drinking something I didn’t want to know the name of.
“So I got your first target. He’s a mad scientist with plenty of accolades. I heard of him plenty while working in that sector anyway. According to some of this stuff you managed to hijack from the government, he's working on some nano-tech that could be ground breaking. However, if we can capture him and those two material makers. We can begin the foundation of your empire now.”
Brendan Barron is currently in a government protected bunker with at least two rank fives protecting him. An energy user who can turn his energy into any construct and some kind of mentalist. Not a problem and a way for me to lay down the reputation that God was here.
I stood up and walked out the door, vanishing the next instant.
Time to awe the world.
Thunder clouds gather at a rapid pace. Lightning licked the air while I formed a giant lightning titan.
Ha, this was going to be so fun. Even better if I had badass music to go with it.
My titan stamped down. Crushing several buildings under its feet. Alarms sounded a second after.
Sadly, I think their response was a little slow. A spear formed in the Titan hands, it stabbed it deep into the ground. Dirt exploded up and out. I watched large trucks get tossed into the air as if a child was sitting on its rump and making toy cars fly around.
Zoom Zoom.
Some guy came flying up, outlined in gold. A large hammer in his hand as if he was Thor or something.
He swung it with the whole back bending then slapping forward.
I shook my head, he basically telegraphed his moves. Such a poser.

My Titan backhanded him across the horizon and kept on destroying the base. Like it just encountered a mosquito. Not enough to even occupy its attention for a second.
I felt it had grabbed enough attention, so I slipped into the base.
People outright ignored me as I moved against the crowd rushing outside. I walked deep into the base before I noticed the first set of guards that looked more professional.
They didn’t ask any off handed questions like who are you? Do you have permission to be down here?
They directly pulled out their guns and opened fire. When they noticed the bullets were stopped several feet before me, they dropped their guns and stepped aside.
Like this was a completely different operating procedure to normal guards. I approve.
I didn't even bother them when they got on comms and began requesting support.
“This is sector E’s guards reporting in. Hostile target, doesn’t seem overly aggressive. Has already made it past the initial checkpoint. Only visible power is blue glow in his eyes and some kind of force field that stops our bullets several meters from him.”
I clicked my tongue and waved a door open. The second checkpoint came up and the guards opened fire right away. I noticed their bullets were tinted with some kind of weird aura. It still stopped inside my electrical field being made of metal but it made it a little further.
They copied the first set of guards, lowering their weapons and stepping aside.
“Target has passed checkpoint two.”
Nothing about what kind of bullet it was? Clever bastards.
I waved, opened the door and noticed there were two paths before me. My target was to the left. So I went that way.
“Target is heading towards the scientist. All guards stand down. Target is high level rank five meta. Possible level six.”

“Glenn is enroute. Estimation four minutes.”
“Can Glenn hold off this hostility for Woods to arrive?”
“We are sending a Lancaster team with the new mecha to assist.”
“Target has made it to Brendan Barron, research lab.”
There were about six scientists inside and they all looked at me behind the triple layer bullet proof glass like it would save them.
I waved my hand as I walked to the door and it opened with a simple glance.
“Brendan Barron, mind coming with me peacefully?”
He looked at his co-workers who stepped away from him before sighing. He walked towards me with a defeated look.
“Why not? Not like I could put up a fight, but I just want you to know. I’m just a scientist, I can’t build any type of nuclear weapons or any of that world domination bomb shit. This isn’t any cartoon. At most, I can invent a better power system for a city or what I prefer working on and that’s spaceships. I want to explore the vast space before I die.” He grumbled while walking towards the exit.
Pausing only to look back at me and rumbled on angrily, “what are you waiting for? Let’s go. The quicker I help you with whatever you have planned the quicker I can get back to my life goal. Come on, boy.”
Scientists these days. No respect for the effort it took me to kidnap him.
I grabbed his nape like a dog would its pup and flew through the halls. Blowing open doors instead of stopping for them to open. I noticed the so-called mecha squad up ahead but a quick wave of my hand and they deactivated. Trapping the so-called elite troops inside.
Bet they didn’t even think about that shit happening, huh.
This so-called Glenn was in a jumpsuit. You know the ones you see in superhero animes, the spandex kind. Where the crotch is colored out and looks no descript. He was in a blue and white spandex suit thing. It didn’t look bad with his build but it highlighted him as super retarded.
A lightning wolf shot out of my palm and ran into a barrier that rippled from the impact. I frowned and crowded the narrow hallway with them.
With the vision blocked, I cut a hole through a wall and went around. He could have been that level five mentalist of sorts. It wasn’t really clear cut on his powers.
I laughed as he was trying to fight my wolf army while I was already escaping into the air. I dismissed my lightning Titan that was slapping around the glow stick guy.
“They don’t make soldiers like they used to.” Brendan muttered.
I laughed, flying through the air at reasonable speed due to my fragile package. They totally could have caught up by now.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Lear County Outlook
Based on true events in my life. Think of these stories as H P Lovecraft meets Rob Zombie. Each story has pieces, confessions, from the rural decay of Appalachia wrapped in horror and madness. All are set in the fictional county of Lear, which is a dark mirror held up to surface, idealized countryside. Blood and familial ties bind deep in a hopeless and rotted south. Tales are whispered of Hill Witches and Demons. Shunned communities molder. All these truths are hidden in the stories of deceit and lies. The first arc revolves around theft and exploitation at one of the last factories of Lear County. Abuse of power draws all down the path of madness.
