《The Misfits of Alter》Chapter 6- October 6th

"Damnit, they just won't stop!" Mindy yelled out. She sent another wave of fire into the air, catching a few demonic eagles off guard. Fifty more came to take their place. "Duck, Mindy!" She did as Nebula told, avoiding being clawed to death by a raging fire eagle. "Damnit. Damnit!" She summoned multiple waves at once, killing little over a third of them. "Nebula, bean!" Mindy called, and Nebula threw her a blue pill that Mindy threw down her throat. She felt her magic slowly filling up, but not in time to kill the wolf that had just entered the scene. It charged up to her, clawing her leg. She fell over, panicking and trying to kill the creature. Her aim was off and the demon was faster than any of the other wolves she'd seen before. Most disturbing were its lips, curved up in a sickening grin. Thankfully, Nebula had noticed her situation and froze the wolf in its paces, turning it into shards.
"Thanks," Mindy mumbled, struggling up off the ground. "What the hell's going on?"
…
He'd found the fighting duo after an unknown amount of time sprinting. He felt his lips curl into a relieved smile when something rammed him into the brick apartment building. Without thinking, he'd grabbed a nearby brick that had broken off from the rest of the structure, and slammed it against the beast's skull. Its head was thin, and his attack had managed to break off its jaw. He laughed in celebration until it stood up. It wrapped its hands around its neck and pulled out his spine. It was straight and didn't wobble an inch as the creature held it. Two long tendrils popped out of its neck, large eyes at their ends. The head that once was connected to its body was then angled so that the sharp blade inside its mouth was perfect for freeing David's head from his body as well. "Fuck." He mumbled, dodging under the thing's legs as it attacked. It's weapon tapped against the building, sending it crumbling to the ground. Blood oozed from the destroyed building, giving the enemy a perfectly horrid backdrop. 'Fuck me fuck me fuck me." David crawled away from the thing, rolling to the side of another attack, before getting up and running again.

He tried reaching into his bag but was nearly crushed to death. "David! Over here!" He turned to see Mindy, sending a wall of fire at the creature. He did as he was told, running behind the two girls. "Well, this thing sure is new. Too bad you have to go, buddy, I'm sure you'd have been a great science fair project!" She put her hands to the ground and clenched up. A pillar of fire engulfed the beast, making it scream in agony. "Nebula, I got...it." The beast walked out of the flames, angry, wounds slowly healing. David fished out his notebook, hoping beyond hope that it would work.
'Nothing at the moment.'
'Nothing at the moment.'
'Nothing at the moment.'
"Why? Why are you so useless?!" He threw his notebook to the side, grabbed a piece of long metal that had come free from the ruined building, and rushed forward. Mindy was trying to slow it down with an endless barrage of attacks, which was doing the job somewhat. The monster aimed its ax and began its swing. She watched in horror as the blade began traveling through the air toward her neck.
"Ahhhh!" David stopped the ax with his metal. The metal broke in half, but he wasn't too upset by that; his main goal had been accomplished. The creature stumbled, giving him time to run, jump, and jam what remained of his metal into one of its tentacle eyes. It screeched, falling on its back. "Here." He pulled Mindy up and handed her a magic bean. "You got this, okay?" "Y-yeah." She held back her surprise, focusing her attention on the immobilized monster. She bent down, placing both hands on the ground. Her body trembled, making the earth rumble with her. Suddenly, the ground opened up, releasing an unending blaze, brighter than any fire he'd ever seen before. The creature screeched, trying to escape its demise, but was not successful, and they watched as it turned to ash. Mindy looked up and the two locked eyes. They shared a short gaze of congratulation with each other before more monsters started to gather around them. "Stand back David." Mindy walked in front of him, her ego clearly larger than it had been just a moment ago. She held out her hand, summoning a wall of flames that engulfed the demons, devouring them like a hungry child. That moment was perhaps the first time David felt his heart flutter in a long time.

Updates at least every Monday, Thursday, and every other Sarturday, (from 26/11/2021). This is primarily a story exploring what it means to be human, using a lens of a hopefully real-feeling fantasy world. This story is not a power fantasy or a traditional Litrpg , while it has elements of these genres, it will focus on how these tropes would influence real people and possibly Redshirt will break some of these tropes along the way. There will be a variety of different characters and perspectives, some you hate, some you love, and some that will frustrate. Just as all people do. I don't believe there will be anything overly traumatic or explicit, but it's better to be safe than sorry. There will be some heavy topics explored, the characters views do not reflect the authors; however, if there is an issue in how I present/understand these issues please do tell me, and I will try my best to rectify it.
