《The Lost Characters [Vanilla Dark Fantasy]》100-The old man
Advertisement
The old man did not move his mouth and looked at him in a daze. Adam was only now able to notice the old man's face. The weak red light that it illuminated did not help to look at him correctly: but he noticed that the old man had few teeth in his mouth, he had a few white hairs on his head and even more importantly he could see that the old man's eyes were completely black, they seemed a black that I wanted to suck your soul just by seeing it.
Adam was scared when he saw these eyes and looked for the old man's shadow, luckily he was still there, otherwise this old man could be tempted to attack because he had karma from opposite paths, according to what he had investigated. As he stunned the old man, Adam focused more on his ears, luckily no one seemed to have heard the old man's scream. After checking for a while, Adam gave the following command:
—Take the books on the floor, if you can't carry them, put them in the pockets of my tunic, while I look at the old man, don't make too much noise and let me listen carefully.
The two boys said nothing and started to fill Adam's pockets. There were 12 books, so Adam's and the boys' pockets were full, and they had to fight to carry the others. When they were done, Adam motioned to the old man for silence as he put his glasses back on.
—You are a hero, may infinity embrace you—the old man murmured in a very low voice messaging his forehead, he probably knew that Adam could hear him this way—Save me, boy, if I can get out of the mirror I will be able to continue living. Some inkwells attacked us, we tried to defend ourselves, but we failed.

The old man wanted to continue convincing the young man in white tunic, he knew that being that age and those eyes was impossible; so the hero could probably get him out of here alive. But he noticed that the young man told him to shut up with a signal, so he remained silent.
After a while Adam carried the old man on his back, it was not very complicated, the young hero was 20 years old, he also went up and down at least 800 steps every day to go to school, strength was not lacking at this point.
The old man was grateful to be carried by Adam and continued in silence, he understood that they did not have to attract the attention of the creatures. He looked at the children, especially at their robes, he hadn't seen that color of robes for a long time, for which he felt happier. To the color of rare robes: complex stories, to complex stories: more likely to survive.
Adam with his glasses continued to advance through the corridors, in each corner he carefully proceeded to poke his head using his technique, the footprints seemed to be increasing, but the distance with the mirror was getting smaller and smaller.
One of Adam's hands was used to grab the boards and the other to better support the old man. Therefore, the young man could no longer take the children by the hand; which bothered him, because not only children gained courage from feeling accompanied.
When there were only a few corridors left to reach the mirror, Adam noticed that the footprints were only increasing, so he murmured to Apollo and Hermes:
—Remember: if I tell you to take a shelf, grab it and don't let go no matter what. At this rate we will come across an inkwell yes or yes. Drop the books in your hands on the floor if that happens and don't worry about them, just look at your shelves until I tell you.

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. [Disclaimer: Book 1 of this story will likely be published in KU by around the start of 2022, so please keep that in mind. Book 2 and onwards will continue here until they are published as well.]
