[Insanity]
Oh, right. There’s that.
I still feel normal though, even with the insanity debuff.
Sitting in the town’s park, enjoying the rays, things don’t seem all that different from yesterday.
But where did my skill levels go? And my stats?
Faye?
..
Faye, you in here?
…
Huh, no answer.
That’s unusual.
I stood up and called to her again.
FAYE.
…
God damn, where is that lady at.
“Are you calling to me?” I heard behind me.
I turned around, “shit, you scared me.”
There was a small woman sitting on a bench.
I knew her face and her hair though there was something different.
Animals ears and a tail.
“A fox-girl?” I looked her up closer, “Faye, is that you? What are you doing outside my brain?”
“It was getting noisy in there will all the skill ups thus I decided to leave. But I still have to look after you so I took a physical form.
I choose the appearance of one of the races in this world to emulate.”
“Well, that’s nice. Are they real? The ears and tail?”
“No,” she said dismissively.
I picked up her small body from the bench and turned her around.
“Let me go!” She had a small tantrum.
I sat her down then grabbed her tail firmly and pulled on it to see if it actually was real.
It seemed like it was.
If it wasn’t real then it had really good craftsmanship.
I could see Faye blushing up and getting very mad.
“Do NOT touch me again. It will be for your own good,” she warned me for good, pulling the tail away.

“Fat chance,” I tried grabbing it again.
But when I did I was electrocuted and knocked down.
“Fucking hell,” I stood up, “are you even allowed to hurt your ward? Isn’t that against your mission?”
“You hurt yourself. I can stop you from doing that. I did warn you, did I not?”
Great, now I have a fox cat who I can’t even touch.
“Fine, I won’t touch you again.”
I sat down on the bench again.
I sighed.
“What happened to my stats and skill levels?”
“I turned them off. It should help the system cope with the enormous amount of calculations it has to do. I also merged all the bodily skills into one.”
“Neat.”
Finally, I could begin my journey.
Though… Now I had a shit ton XP to get some new skills.
I could, for good measure, get a few, couldn’t I?
I opened up the skill menu and directly pressed randomize.
[Skill Transfer]
Well, well now. I hope it’s different from what its name implies.
[Judge]
“[Skill Transfer]
The user of this skill can transfer any of his skills onto another person.
This ability has no cooldown.”
Got real unlucky there.
How about another one?
[Analyze]
Huh, another bad one.
[Judge]
“[Analyze]
This skill lets the user analyze any used skill the user is present at for five minutes.
It will show the details of the skill.
Description, Cooldown, HP/MP/SP Usage, Strengths, and Weaknesses.
This ability has a 20-minute cooldown.”
That ain’t so bad.
Faye, you click on randomize once.
I tried forcing her finger on the button against her will but even when it touched it nothing happened.
I guess other people can’t interact with other people's menus.
[Hanging Tree]
“[Hanging Tree]
When this skill is activated the target’s psyche is attacked.
They will be imprisoned in an illusory world until they are hung on a noose by a tree.
Sucking out 20% max HP, 50% max MP and 90% max SP
Can only be used when surrounded by trees.
This ability has a one-week cooldown period.”
Damn, this shit is broken.
Only when surrounded by trees, eh?
That doesn’t even balance it out that much, there are trees everywhere.
But it does get a big ass cooldown.
I rerolled another two times and I was in for a nice surprise.
[Counter Spell]
“[Counter Spell]
The user of this skill will receive the exact opposite spell the enemy target is using.
The Cooldown of this ability is depended on the given spell.”
[Counterspell]
“[Counterspell]
Counterspell nullifies the enemy's next spell.
This can be used twice per fight.”
Alright, now it is time to have an adventure.

Twisted Skies
After his master's death, Thurain leaves his rural home behind and travels to Heliana, the cramped city founded on the scientific progress of cultivation. Under a fake name, he aims to enter the Elemental Path Sect, the place of his master's death, to find both his killers, and closure. However, surrounded by the strange and horrible wonders of Heliana and its mixture of heroes and villains, his master's death is not the only murder he may have to solve. --- First attempt at a xianxia novel from me. To shake things up from the usual formula, the setting is more steam-punk than you might expect, and there are elements of murder mystery mixed in with the standard formula (though I'm not entirely sure yet how far to go with it.) I wrote this a while ago for NaNoWriMo, only posting it now for various reasons. Enjoy. Also, cover is highly temporary. I'll probably replace it with something nicer eventually.
