《Tales of the Path to Godhood》Chapter 0030 Drawing in the Card Lottery (1)

Slowly and steadily, I reached my finger out towards the left card. My index finger came nearer to the golden glowing card; and right before I touched it… I hastily pulled my finger back.
'If I would have touched it just now, I would have definitely gotten a useless card. I'm sure of it.'
'But what if it would have been a unique, golden-circled card?!' I berated myself.
'Okay. I will draw a good card now. I know it!'
Again, I reached out for the left card. My finger began to tremble and shake. There was just too much pressure, which I couldn't handle.
I mean, sure; I didn't feel pressured or afraid when facing the vampire or the Iron Chained Blood Grizzly. But now is something totally different.
Fighting a monster and drawing in a lottery are two completely different things. A fight depends fully on the individual. I have everything under control in a fight and can predict some things.
But in a lottery? The only thing I have under my control in a lottery is the time when I touch the card – nothing else.
My finger steadily moved closer to the left card…
'NO! Not yet!!' I screamed in my mind and pulled my finger back, forming a fist. I clutched the fist with my other hand and pressed them tight to my chest.
'sighhhh~ What am I doing? I am totally overthinking this.'
Suddenly, Bai Mei's voice came from my side and cutely said, "What are you doing?"
I turned my head and looked at her. A bright smile hung on her lips and her finger was on her chin, giving her a puzzled look.
'Where did she come from?' I wondered.
Discarding that thought because I couldn't ask her anyway, I pointed at the three golden cards before me, showing her that I am pondering over my lottery draw.

Her eyes shimmered and her smile brightened, showing her angel-white teeth. In a sweet and happy voice she said, "What? You want me to touch them? Yeyyy~!"
'What?! No! That's not what I meant!'
Bai Mei leaped forward; and before I could pull her back, she grabbed a golden card and pulled it out from the air.
My heart missed a beat.
But I was curious nevertheless. So, I stepped behind her, patted her head, and glanced over her head onto the card in her hands.
The golden shimmer on the card changed. It turned from golden, to grey, to white, orange, and yellow. The card's color changed rapidly, indicating that it's on the way to decide the card's category.
'Please don't be white. I don't need food or drinks,' I begged and chanted; 'please be yellow! Please be yellow!' in hope of it turning out as armor.
The pace at which the colors changed slowed down and seemingly stopped at the border of grey and white.
'No. No. No!! Don't be white! Please stop! Grey is okay!'
Slowly, the grey color started to fade and turned white…
'Nooo~~!'
I gritted my teeth and snatched the card from her. My muscles tensed up and my arm holding the card trembled.
'It can't be white!' I screamed.
Suddenly, a circle emerged on the white card. It turned black and changed to purple, green, blue, red, bronze, silver, and gold. The circle varied between every of those colors.
It got slower and slower. The bronze color was already shown for half a second, and then it changed to silver, nearly being a full second on that color.
'A little further… Just a little further…' I hoped for it to change to gold. Even though it was already long on silver, it could still change.

And just as my heart desired, it changed! The circle became golden!
'Yes! At least it's not a trash card in the Food&Drinks category!'
But the color didn't stop. The golden luster became darker and darker, indicating that it didn't stop yet. It could change to black at any time.
'No! Stop! Stop it!'
My clutches on the card tightened and my heartrate increased. The tension stole my breath and I stopped breathing.
And suddenly… rapidly changing pictured emerged in the middle of the circle. It meant that the color of the circle was fixed now!
'It's golden! Golden!!' The heaviness on my heart fell off and my breathing became ragged. I finally obtained a godly card, a golden one!
A stupid smile came onto my lips and left me in happiness, until…
"You know that it is just food, right?" Bai Mei said with an evil grin on her lips.
'You had to ruin it for me! You just had to!' The smile on my lips disappeared and my eyebrows knitted while I shot her an angry glance.
But Bai Mei didn't look at me. She just ignored my berating look and fixed her eyes on the card in my hands.
"Huh? That doesn't look like food," she said.
'What?' I was puzzled and turned my gaze back to the card.
The picture on the card was… a card.
'Since when do people eat cards? What's with this?!'
Curiously, I crushed the card apart to take a look at the edible card. A blinding white light flashed and turned my vision white. I couldn't see a single thing.
My eyes squinted and shut the light out. I could feel the physical form of the card in my hand disappearing. It probably turned already into the food.
When I opened my eyes again, I looked into my hand.
-Nothing. There was nothing.
'Where is it?!' I desperately screamed in my mind, and my mouth gaped open.
*ding*
'What now?!' I thought and pulled my phone out.
…
[Message]: Learned occupation "Card Smith".
[Message]: Occupation "Card Smith" unlocked hidden skills.

…

…
'…' I stared in a daze onto my phone. I found no words which can express my feelings right now…
'Does that mean I can create skill cards and gene cards? I could also create a card which can give me a voice…'
But then it hit me. The smile faded from my face as I realized, 'But how do I craft cards? Where is the manual?!'
I scrolled and tipped on my phone, but there was nothing. Nothing at all…

Re:Hammer - The Hammering
Sequel to the sort of liked Re:Hammer. Set in 40k universe, and generally on course. Personal changes are detailed in the Prologue because it's quite a bit. It's not really ended nor is it an attrocity like End Times, but I've got a few things to change. To note: Druchii arc (If this means nothing to you, go read Re:Hammer first) has been learned from and will be avoided. This is not to say there won't be any sex, but we will certainly try to keep it less crazy. Feedback is, as always, appreciated and worked with.
