《Cent Five》Chapter 19: Jail
Advertisement
We got captured by the guards and thrown into a prison. They're a well-organized, well-trained unit of twenty. There's no way for me to deal with right now. Even with the armour, I'm at a well-adjusted level 30-35.
It's a forceful 24 hour ban. I decided to not get angry about it and instead, logged out. I would ask Nephos about it later, she better have a good explanation for this. She's wasting some very precious gaming time for me.
I log-out and I just don't know what to do. I don't remember the last time, I had time to just...be in the real world. Spasms of anxiety and impatience course through my body. Why did she have to start a whole riot. I take a few deep breaths and remind myself that I promised to not be angry.
I lie down on the ground and I'm about to start browsing some forums but I just don't know how tired my body is. I drift off into sleep. In the hazy few second before I fall asleep, I feel this all encompassing desire to get up but my body is frozen like a block of ice.
I wake up a full two days later. I did a double take when I saw the date. Two days. I guess that's the reason why I'm so parched and thirsty.
I decide to log-back in right away. More than enough times passed in-game. I had messaged Lem before-hand. She's paid my and Nephos' bail. I check my messages and she's saying she took Nephos along.
That's good. Even though, she's the reason we had to deal with this, I don't want her to spend any time here. Actual, grubby NPC's are down here. I shudder at the thought.
I signed out of the prison and took a deep breath, its a sunny day. I go down to the skill shops and buy the base skills books for the [Druid] class. There's 3 underlying skills in order to initialize the class.

Will of the Forest Detect Beast Intent Herbology
Herbology seems like a strange one but its fine. [Will of the Forest] is a recon skill. [Beast Intent] is pretty self-explanatory. This class is a lot more advanced than the enchanter class. I think that's the reason why it needs mastery of three basic skills to initialize.
I don't know where they've gone but I decide to head down to the quest lobby. There's a few quests but two of them stand out. The first one is going to happen tomorrow. I'll come back to it, the other one is occurring in about forty minutes. Somebody just issued it a few minutes ago.
[Explore Undead Ruins]
Explore the abandoned ruins off the City of Vellum, there is a high chance of level 20 to 30 undeads. Need 3 more people for a party of 10. Two healers and a tank.
[Reward: 500] 500 frags is somewhat equivalent to 500 credits. Its a little above but the conversion difference is 40 to 50 frags.
I accept it right away. I can act like a [Tank]. I head down to the rendezvous point. There's a man in spectacles staring at me. I had to buy a new pair of robes for myself. I think I should invest in a better robe or a disguise item.
I shake his hand, I got gloves as well this time. It came along with the robe. He's got a firm grip. This armour is beyond normal. There hasn't been a scratch or cinch on it after all this time. On top of that, its like wearing another skin.
"Tanker or healer?"
"I'm a tanker."
He nods, "You don't mind if I use a skill on you?"
He wants to check if I really am a tanker or not. He moves his legs out in a wide-stance and draws his fist back to his waist. "You can use any tanking skills you have."

I just shake my head and motion for him to come forward. In a split-second, he plants his foot forward, closes the distance and punches me in the chest.
There's a thunk when his fist hits my armour and I take a few steps back. I don't lose my sense of balance, it was an insane amount of force. If I wasn't paying attention, I would've gone flying. If Nephos was here, she could use her vines to keep me grounded.
"You resisted my [Bear Claw]? No way." He's rubbing his knuckles. I just shrug.
We wait for the other two healers to arrive. One of them is with the [Church of Light]. It's a weird organization with branches in the real world as well. Yes, an in-game religion got actual people as followers and now they're setting up branches in the real world.
The other one's a druid with a Healing Build. Its an interesting concept. Mr. Bear-Claw asks both of them to cast a healing buff on him. He checks his status and asks them, "How many times can you do this?"
"Seven to eight times on my base mana. I have a nice stockpile of recovery potions so, I should be fine." The Church Healer replies.
"I can cast it about 15 fifteen times and then I have a 20 minute cool-down. There's a boost if I'm in a forest but its quite spotty. Sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't." I listen to her with rapt attention. A lot of players are okay with talking about their builds but a lot aren't.
"OK, guys let me introduce you to the other guys. I'm an offensive warrior, we have two other people. Nord is a lancer and Dub's an archer. He'll cover us from behind. The point of this mission is to find Death Lillie's."
"They only grow in regions with large battles, here's what they look like." He takes out a weird flower, its got black spot all over it with a small oval sack in the middle. The sack looks as if its about to burst.
"Ok, " He puts it back and turns around. "Let's get going, shall we?"

The 8th Day
One day life is good. The next day it isn't! The boundaries between... well, whatever they're between.. have shattered! Monsters burst out from cracks in the universe, and reality suddenly begins to function similar to a game -- but not a game that anyone knows all the rules about! Magic is suddenly real, but so are monsters and death! Lots of death! And the worst part of it all? I think we did it to ourselves! We invented video games, and personally I think that great Finger-in-the-Sky picked up a console somewhere and started playing them. Since He liked what he saw, he must've declared, """"On the 8th Day, let there be Game!"But what do I know about it all, really. After all, I'm just """"The Witness"""" forced to observe it all.__________________________________________________________________________Author's Note: There's a lot of tales where characters get stuck in a Virtual Reality. """"Sword Art Online"""", """"Log Horizon"""", """"The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor"""". This is a story told with the premise inverted -- instead of a person from reality going into a virtual world, what would happen if the virtual world instead came to reality?I want this tale to speak about the aspects of the game, as it has affected the current reality, but the focus of the story should never be on the """"reality-turned-game"""" itself, but on the characters and their oh-so-human struggles, personalities, and attempt to adjust and live within the bounds of their new existence. Hopefully this won't just be a story of """"reality turned into a game"""", but instead will be something more meaningful such as a story of the strengths, perseverance, and humanity of man-kind as they try to adapt and face the unknown.*** And, most importantly, I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it. ***WARNING: RATED MATURE M[18+] FOR GORE, SEX, VIOLENCE. The apocalypse isn't a pretty place to try to survive in, and neither is every scene in a story trying to describe it.
