Marsha Sanders set her paradoxically protected time portal first for 1920. Then 1907, and then 1862 as a means to stop a catastrophe that had infected Earth’s ecology irreversibly.

She noted in her log:

‘This might take the rest of my life—someone will invent ‘the poison’ that destroys nature, but I must try. I realize this’ll drastically set back modern medicine, technology, manufacturing, electronics, and so many useful tools and fantastic inventions.’

Once Marsha arrived back from her journey, she stepped outside her lab, coughing, while she observed a brown-covered sky and nothing green.

“No! Damn, all of you!”
