In a world were quix is power, reincarnation are given special skills and demon beasts prowl the wasteland. How is it possible for a ordinary orphan to survive.
I grew up on the streets in a little alleyway down the road from the noble mansion. Though the difference between me and a Nobel was a laughable matter. I found myself staring down at the reflection on the puddle in the middle of the alleyway. What greeted me was the immature face of a child with blue eyes that resembled a dead fish and short black hair. This coming moon I would have lived for eight years my stature is that of a 6-year-old having a very small and nimble body.
I thought to myself that not even my bodybuild was good as I splashed through the puddles and out onto the street. Sitting next to a fruit vendor I brought out my little wooden bowl and begun to hum. Next, to me, I overheard two fruit vendors discussing beggars. The first fruit vendor complained,
"Dammed beggars these days keep trying to steal from a man just trying to put food on his table for his children"
"Haha old man is the rain getting to you nowadays"
"I don't understand youngling, why do you let this beggar sit next to your stand knowing that he is gonna steal from you"
He didn't even spare a glance at me he knew who the old man was talking about.
"Old man I think there is something you don't understand about this child he has never stolen from me and has never even eyed my goods"
Convinced my spot was safe I no longer paid heed to the merchant's conversation indeed I held to my high sense of inborn pride and never once stole from anybody. As the day passed a few coppers piled up in my bowl. I considered today a good day because most days I went hungry. With a skip in my step, I went to the market and purchased rice and beans to last me for a few days and went back to my ally. My spot in the ally consisted of a pallet of wood and hidden underneath it a pot, my most valuable possession. After filling my belly I sometimes liked to sit on the roof and gaze at the moon and dream about the days I would be old enough to find a job. Today the moon was hidden by a rather big cloud so I decided to move another rooftop to gaze at it. I sat there for 5 minutes until I heard a rattling noise behind me. When I turned to look I realized that I was on the rooftop opposite to the noble house. And from my position on the roof, i could peer into the nobles daughters bathing area. There stood before me the splitting image of beauty in all of her naked glory. I stared stupified for 5 seconds as if to want to stare at the moon as I did she looked out the window and saw me

Kind’s Kiss
MAGIC DOESN'T KILL, NOT BY ITSELF. IT NEEDS A LITTLE HELP. Jessica DeRidder is a substitute teacher and mage in hiding, her daughter Ellen a killer on the run. Their next job lands the mother-daughter team in Hellhole, a small town in the middle of nowhere. All they need to do is their job. For Mom to identify the problem, and for Ellen to... fix it. Easy. Simple. But not this time. The pair find themselves caught in the struggle between the Man-in-White and the Wicked Witch of the West. A mysterious image and the theft of a deadly flower lead the pair to a score of dead prisoners, magical drug dealers, and red-eyed assassins falling from the sky. And somehow it all seems to be related to Ellen's murky past. All Ellen wants to do is do her homework, eat ice cream, and protect her newfound friends (not necessarily in that order). She'll go all-in, guns blazing. But when the smoke clears there may be nothing left but a stranger's past and a lonely future. --- 'Kind's Kiss' is a light, modern-day fantasy, easy on the magic, heavy on the snark. Though complete it is still a work in progress. One reviewer described it as 'Buffy meets Sabrina, as done by Tarantino'. I'm still not sure if I should consider that a compliment or hire a hitman :-)
