*Ring* *Ring* *RING* *RING*
The sound of the phone alarm kept sounding in the background but its owner was already awake, making it almost purposeless.
I wake up in a haze not really knowing where I am or what time it is, eyes out of focus until a ringing in the background really wakes me up.
*Gasp*
I get up from bed quickly and go to a mirror in the corner of the room to check myself. Before me is a face as white as ash with sweat dripping down slowly to the tip of its nose.
"What the fu*k did I just dream about?"
I try to remember about last night's dream or more correctly a nightmare in which I hear a ear splitting noise and feel a certain gaze upon me that makes me look just like a piece of delicious meat. Trying to gain more information from my memories I only get a headache that makes the memories that I had just collected to be forgotten.
After trying to remember for about a few minutes I just give up in frustration and decide to eat some grub. I eat some reheated pasta from last night while watching the news.
I eat the pasta slowly with the voice of the TV in the background making me bored.
After breakfast I decide to go out to the backyard and see how the trees are doing. I have a big backyard and my father not wanting to let it go to waste has planted in it a lot of fruit trees like cherries, pomegranate, lemons and an orange. Its early spring and nature has started to rear its head, the cherries have started to bloom and the lemons are not far behind.
While checking the trees, a sudden urge to look to the sky comes over me and I look up just in time to see the sky break open just like someone poking a hole right through it .I am stunned for a split moment not moving and just staring at the black gaping hole in the sky.

In the next moment I start running towards the front door trying to get out as soon as possible but alas just after five steps, and a half finished word everything turns dark.
"Motherf*ck....

In the abyss, at the final point of the duel between the shield and the spear.
The spear seems to be exhausted from the struggle with the shield but also from the erosion by the abyss which is constantly draining its strength .After some time the ravenous spear had become a cornered animal and a cornered animal is always bad. The spear starts vibrating and in an act of revenge for this defeat it decides to seemingly sacrifice itself, just to take a piece of his prey .It starts to compress even more and making the tip of the spear more sharp and robust and finally breaks through the shield .
Right after breaking through the shield it is staring at a blue and green planet which is being orbited by one moon .The planet seems abundant with plant and animal life, with beings big and small, just ripe for the taking. The hungry power even after battling with the shield still had some power and with that power it plunged down towards the blue and green planet at an enormous speed trying to fish for something.
The power arrived at the ground in less than a second showing its tremendous speed and started devouring immediately everything in its grasp, but this land he was depowering was not a land without an owner and that owner wouldn't let a unruly being be in its land .
The shield started contracting faster and faster trying to seal of this unknown power inside and obliterated it in its own territory where it had the advantage.
Just as the power started to devour it felt something disturbing. It was being trapped in very fast and if it didn't retreat right now it wouldn't be able to leave anymore.

Very fast it took what it just had in its mouth and made a retreat the way it came as fast as it could.
It arrived at the crack it had made in the shield in the blink of an eye rushed through it but in that moment the shield regenerated in an instant and thought it was thin, it did its job.
*BANG*
The power was surprised about the fast regeneration of the shield but it did not stop and crashed head on with the shield breaking out, and taking with it a piece of the shield.
It escaped the clutches of the blue shield, but at what price?
It was exhausted after that long fight and now that it was out again in the abyss, it was disappearing fast, but at least it had taken its revenge.
After some time it disappeared completely leaving behind its spoils of war.
It was a house and not just any house but the house of our MC. Along with that house was the piece of the shield that came off in the retreat of the unknown power.
After the power disappeared completely, the piece of the shield as if by instinct wrapped around the house to protect it from the erosion of the abyss. After completing its purpose it became unresponsive and would not move anymore.
....
There in the abyss there is floating a lone house without a destination, without hurry. Floating there in the darkness like an exile looking for a place to call home.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
