《Offworld》Entering the City

"Haaaaa....
I gave a shout as finally we passed through the city walls but instead of a warm welcome we were met with a barrage of arrows.
“Shit!!”
I dint expect that the soldiers up on the city walls would be so quick to attack us.
*whoosh* *whoosh*
Tens of arrows rained on us but I was no sitting duck waiting to become a kebab.
“Hold on!”
I again yelled at the staff and slaves as I made a beeline towards where the soldiers were on the wall and crashed right there.
*booom*
The technique deactivated as soon as we hit the ground and water scattered everywhere. The decompression of the water also somewhat helped us reduce the impact.
“Huuuu finally we made it.”
I was relived but not for long.
“Hold your hands up where we can see them and discard any weapons you may have on your person.”
Four lightly armoured city guards holding spears pointed towards us commanded us to put our arms up and disarm ourselves.
*throb* *throb* *throb*
“You four that are pointing those spears at us, I suggest that you point them somewhere else if you don't want to lose those hands.”
My deadpan statement didn't scare the soldiers but only made the angry.
“Shut the fuck up and put your hands to the air before I shove this spear to your head!”
I was not amused by the answer.
“Hahahaha, I’m sorry for the harsh words. I was just trying to look tough.
I and my companions have just escaped from the monsters pursuit so we are a little on edge.”
The soldier seemed to have gotten second wind.
“No more talking or you are dead.”
He pointed his spear to my throat.
I was surprised.

“How can such a stupid fellow exist? Doesn’t he notice the huge minotaur not 3 meters away from him that is just a slip of the hand away from crushing his scull like a watermelon or the catwoman who is ready to claw his throat of or that we passed through by flying over the wall?”
*sigh*
“I’m going to count to three and if you haven’t surrendered until then I’ll kill you.
1.....2.....
*clench*
“Stop!”
The soldier turned backwards.
“Commander, what are you doing here?”
The commander threw a look at the soldier and a look of pure hatred showed on his face.
“Shut your dirty hole that you call a mouth up.
Why are you disturbing these people when there are tons of monsters to fight, huh?”
“Sir, they flew over the wall. They could be the allies of those monsters so we were about to apprehend them.”
The commander looked at me and then at the soldier.
*slap*
“Shut your mouth. You don't know anything.
These people are citizens of Palos city and no enemies but you threatened them at spear point instead of fighting the monsters?
*huff* *huff*
GET THE HELL OUT OF MY FACE!”
The soldier didn't know what to say. He didn't do anything wrong. In this situation anyone who passed the city wall like we did is suspicious and needed to be apprehended.
“But sir....
“Are you defying direct orders soldier? because if you are you know what happens.”
*gulp*
The commander was right. Not following your superior’s orders in this situation was not wise.
The superior had the power to execute anyone who disagreed with him without a trial.
The soldier backed off and we headed into the city.
*step* *step*
As I passed by the soldier I whispered something to him.

“You were so lucky because....I wasn’t kidding when I said you would lose your hand.”
*whirl* *bang*
I threw a water javelin towards a flying monster, killing him instantly.
*babum babum babum babumbabumbabum*
The soldier’s heartbeat was heard by even the nearby soldiers. His face was frozen in fear and he couldn’t move at all.
......
We descended the wall and the first thing we saw was loads and loads of people. They were packed near each other like a pack of sardines and they couldn’t leave. A group of soldiers had created a perimeter around them and no one was allowed to pass through.
“You crazy fu*ker, you made it!”
“Munnji, thanks for the help.”
“No problem. As soon you sent me the message that you were being harassed by the soldiers up on the wall I was about to go help you beat them up but Girg stopped me.
He showed one of the captains the token Faley gave you and voila, everything is solved.”
I turned towards Girg who was to the side with Rosela and Naga and nodded towards him.
“Ha ha, I was not wrong after all you are an old wise tree after all.”
*tick*
“You flatter me Master Nick.”
After the small talk I headed towards Rosela.

Sieghart wakes up in the company building of one of the most dangerous supervillains in the world greeted by an inhuman entity who pushed them into an Death March that will span dimensions. (The Warnings Are just in case, thus far no plans have been made, but if there end up being any you are warned) [Terror Infinity Fanfiction, there was months of planning and thought into this. Left it for a year worked on it for a bit then left it again and back and forth. The Concept was interesting enough in both the Original and Side B, but the World Building for both was such a mess it gave me such a headache I had to restart and scrap entire ideas multiple times before I just gave up and started from almost scratch and got something mildly satisfying. In my opinion even then, it still needs work. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this.] (Cover Image Isn't Mine)

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021. Warnings: Second person is used in this work. Semi-Polished draft: Posted chapters are subject to revision as needed as things progress. Mild Profanity on occasion.
