Chapter 53. Boss!? You’re back?
“Boss!? You’re back?” The Head Chef immediately welcomed the boy who walked in with a bright smile on his face. The kid nodded his head causing the Head chef to instruct his apprentices who was preparing dinner for their guest. “Everyone! Stop what you’re doing, Boss is back.” The head chef stopped the entire actions of his crew with a single sentence.
“But, Head Chef, there’s a lot of people who want to eat, what’re we going to do about them?” One of his apprentice chefs asked. He was the same one that got smacked by the head chef last time Boss was around.
The head chef turned to Boss who barged into the kitchen, “Boss, what about everyone who is waiting outside?” The little kid with a brown wig lifted his sunglasses revealing his bright yellow eyes. Boss’ eyes startled the Head Chef. This was the first time he found out that Boss was actually a young kid who was already able to teleport, this kid is a genius!
“Just make the food for the guest and bring it over to me, tell me what table it is for and I’ll do the rest. In the meantime, I’ll be using this space over here for my friends. Once everyone’s orders are done, you can help me out with my dish.” The little kid put the sunglasses back on and eyed the ingredients around the kitchen.
“Go, be quick about it!” The Head Chef excitedly exclaimed and rushed over beside Boss who took out an enormous leg from a creature from who knows where. The Head Chef couldn’t believe his eyes when the thing teleported directly in front of him. “Wh-what’s that!?” The leg was as big as a horse’s, yet the sheen from the fur didn’t match any fur on horses he’d ever saw, it was fluffier and less shiny.
“A rabbit’s leg from the Tillowisk Empire.” Boss stated calmly. The Head Chef almost exploded with a flurry of questions regarding the leg but calmed himself down immediately, he didn’t want to get on Boss’ bad side and get thrown out. The kid noticed the Head Chef’s curious look and continued. “Got it back in Rouge.” Boss began to peel the skin off the leg of the meat.
…
“Benjamin!” Samuel’s exclaimed causing the butler to arrive only a few seconds later. Samuel’s eyes were about to pop out of his socket as he pointed his shaking hands at the safe containing all the valuables and money they had stockpiled. The once vibrant safe containing thousands of gold bars and millions of gold coins had enough gold coins remaining that could be counted on two hands.
“Where’s all my gold coins!?” Samuel exclaimed. Benjamin eyed the safe and shrugged his shoulder. “Don’t know, no one could get in here except for you and the madam.” Benjamin stated calmly.
Samuel squinted his eyes at Benjamin, “There’s another person who has access to my money, Benjamin.” What Samuel had said was true, besides Angel and Samuel, Benjamin also had access to the safe.
Benjamin shook his head and responded, “How could I do this? Even if I did why would I stay here to get yelled at by you? My lord.” His words were provocative causing Samuel to just want to smack the young man. Benjamin continued “Besides, don’t you think there’s a fourth person that could do this?”

Angel walked into the room wondering why Samuel was so panicked and enraged having a standoff with Benjamin. She looked inside and noticed that while all the gold bars and other valuables remained untouched all the gold coins, they had was almost all gone. She then noticed a small note tucked between two gold bars and walked over to it.
“I owe you 25,000 Gold coins – Boss” Angel handed the piece of paper over to Samuel and Benjamin who was having a standoff. Samuel and Benjamin read the piece of paper. Samuel’s grip on the paper got tighter and tighter as his face became red with anger. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN 25,000!?? YOU TOOK 250,000!”
That day Boss teleported to meet with Samuel and the Pope he walked to the central marketplace which turned into a spot containing only food from Samuel’s orders. From there he met the only person who had the meat a guy who went by the name Tea Rex who had just restocked his inventory and bought all of it using the gold coins he ‘borrowed’ from Samuel’s safe.
…
Boss scratched his ear that started to itch with his pinky and turned to the Head Chef who standing directly behind him observing his every move. “I’m just peeling the leg, if you want to help me take these veggies and cut them up into perfectly even slices.” He ordered the Head Chef; the Head Chef nodded his head and moved the vegetables away and began cutting it into perfectly even slices. Every few seconds he would turn around and glance at what Boss was doing before returning to cutting.
The first dish was prepared after several minutes of cooking. One of the chefs walked up to Boss and softly placed the dish beside Boss, she muttered. “Table 3.” The little kid who had started on cutting up the enormous leg nodded his head.
The dish the female chef placed down disappeared and reappeared to the surprised look of the guest waiting at Table 3. One of the servers who was in the kitchen at the time exited and looked towards the table and left light chuckle when he noticed the person was too afraid to even touch the dish.
The server quickly hurried over after laughing for a bit and seriously informed the guest and everyone within the dining hall that their Boss was helping with the cooking. He continued and stated that they shouldn’t be worried about their food appearing on the table tonight.
After the first incident people were excited and expectant of the food magically appearing on their table shortly after they had ordered and would ask for seconds and thirds. They even went and brought their friends who had never seen such ability before and bought them food.
The Chefs within the kitchen were working tirelessly as they prepared every order, the stock of food they had was diminishing at a rapid pace. However, the expression on their face was one of giddiness as they shared glances at the boy working on his own dish.
Everything Boss had done was simple and straightforward, but the way he was preparing and cooking them was something the Chefs had never tried before. He was steaming the food creating buns and dumplings he had learned back on Earth.
Luckily the ingredients Boulderville had were all there for creating dumplings and buns. But, those weren’t all he was making it wouldn’t be hours if it was just these, dishes upon dishes were made using whatever was found within the room, things he enjoyed and other dishes he could create within the 3 hours’ time limit was created.

Most of the dishes in Boulderville and within this world were all either open fire cooking and grilling alongside creating some more advance cuisine such as pan frying and pasta making. However, their dishes were not up to par from what Boss had back at home millions of years ago. “Oh~ how nostalgic. How long was it since I’ve been back in a mortal world?” Boss thought to himself as the food in his hands slowly transformed to what he remembered.
As an immortal, food and drinks was something those of Boss’ levels did not need to survive. Most would prefer to spend their entire time hidden away meditating and becoming even more powerful. This did not mean all immortals like Boss didn’t eat. Him and his crew for example preferred having multiple restaurants within their galactic stealth ships that they can eat whenever they want.
Unfortunately, a ship is not a planet, and a crew is not new friends. Doing the same thing for hundreds of thousands of lifetimes just to keep those within his own planet safe has made even the best food aboard taste bland to him. Because of this Boss would choose to take a break descending into the worlds of mortals with his power limited to what the planet can handle in order to enjoy some time alone. His crew would do the same.
It wasn’t until nearly four hours later when almost all the guest had eaten and left did Arthur and Michael finally woke up, surprisingly at the same time, just like their grasp on meditative energy that afternoon.
Everyone was starving by the time they had woken up, but since Boss hadn’t returned to let them know he was done they remained within the room meditating.
Gurgle gurgle
“Ah, I’m so hungry Shelly, how about we eat something else while we wait?” Arthur asked after waking up. He recalled that he managed to find his meditative energy after falling asleep and attempted to see if he could do it again. There it was, at the center of his heart circling and rotating drawing him in, it was an amazing feeling until his stomach growled and that feeling disappeared instantly.
Shelly thought for a moment and got up. “Okay, let’s go find something.” Everyone followed Shelly out of the room until a voice from behind them stopped them in their tracks.
“Hey, hey I’m finished.” The little kid with his sunglasses on smiled at the youths in front of him “Let’s go get Seth and his friends too, they’ll want to eat.” Boss walked ahead of Shelly towards the direction of Seth’s room.
Boss glanced over to the room beside Seth’s and raised a curious eyebrow, he then returned to Seth’s door and kicked it open startling the people inside. “Hey, hey wake up! Let’s go!” Boss shouted. Everyone within the room was already awake by the time Boss had arrived, they agreed to the dinner but didn’t realize it was going to take this long before they could eat.
Luckily before anyone could bite their own shoe the kid, they recognized a few times before from their past encounters had made his way back into the room of theirs. “Come, come, let’s eat and then sleep and train again some more tomorrow.” Boss turned around and skipped ahead, every step he took made his figure jump meters and with only a few short skips before he was at the entrance of the dining all.
Before everyone even made it through the door to the dining hall the heavenly scent of a variety of different dishes were placed on two tables connected forming a longer one. All the chefs from the kitchen was standing beside the table waiting for them to enter. Boss was already sitting at the center eyeing all the food around him.
The enormous group quickened their pace and settled down on the seat of the table once they saw dishes upon dishes they had never seen or heard before. “I promised Arthur and Michael I’d cook again once they managed to find their meditative energy.” Boss paused for a moment and continued. “So, dig in! … You guys too.” Boss turned to look at the hardworking chefs standing neatly behind him. They were waiting for those magical words and sat down beside Boss.
The table of 15 individuals laughed and conversed as they stuffed themselves silly with food. Boss took his time as he ate examining the energy within everyone’s body. He paid the most attention to the kids he had met first and inwardly smiled. The energy within their body was cycling and qualitatively improving at consistent pace.
Thanks to his ability to perfectly extract all the energy and condensing it into pills, marbles or whatever, Boss hid two of them in the buns and dumplings he placed on their plates using a quarter of the meats he purchased in the process. He also paid attention to the other ones on everyone else’s plate that contained the other quarter of meats condensed into pills.
Hidden behind layers upon layers of delicacy no one except for a single girl noticed the change happening within themselves. Shelly, however, didn’t say anything out loud when she had noticed that the energy within her had experienced a qualitative change. She knew Boss secretly did this for them and inwardly thanked the kid that was laughing and making fun of Arthur who was angrily chewing his food sitting across of him.
She closed her eyes momentarily examining the energy around her, everyone who was sitting at that table tonight were shining like stars, the brilliance in their energy was something she only felt before sitting at home with the Galafray’s at dinner.
Everyone who had ate at this table tonight no matter how average or normal they were was given an opportunity tonight to improve if they ever thought about it in the future as that external energy flowed towards their own enhancing their own inner energy.
Shelly opened her eyes again after a few seconds with no one noticing anything was amiss and continued to eat at her own pace tasting each and every dish. She looked up only to see the kid she inwardly thanked winked back and smiled knowingly at her before returning to converse with those around him. Shelly maintained the same expression and hid her head, no one saw the hopeful smile she made that night.

Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
