《Godmaker's Gem》Chapter 9. The Burning Village.

Unknown location, Star knight headquarters:
"Doctor, is master going to be okay?"
"...Her, wounds are ... particular. Even with healing magic, we could do only this much. There is the possibility that she might never wake up."
"No... master..."
The little girl hugged the bandaged up woman who was all bandaged up and had different medical equipment branched upon her.
This is my fault! If only I wouldn't be so weak, big sis would...would-..
While she was crying a strange dark mist started to fall over her from the ceiling.
-in the meantime, in a conference room.-
"...In total we lost 3 Star suits. We retrieved the debris, but they can not be repaired so we are going to use the intact parts to fix some broken parts."
"What about the demon corps?"
In the conference room, everyone was wearing the same white uniform and hiding their face with veils, per their religion.
" We are still trying to extract. Our equipment or magics are unable to even leave a dent in the stone, so we are currently trying to get it out by tearing out bits through the holes, but considering the size of the holes we need to consider abandoning its mana stone."
"Are you insane? A stone of such size worth millions if not billions! Find a way!"
"I am sorry sir, but there is a reason why they are calling it the indestructible stone!"
"THEN EXPLAIN ME, HOW DID THIS HAPPENED!"
The fattest on in the group hit the table with such a force that the papers on it got lifted into the air.
"Sir, as we said earlier, we have no explanation. The debris does show some unknown radiations but outside those we are clueless."
"Those radiations, are they harmful?"
"Well, it depends on how they are used. During testing, we found out that they interacted with the metal at a molecular level. They are able to change the form, density, and even physical state of what they are exposed to. From the video feed that we received from the survivors, the entity used these radiations similarly as the spirits use mana, to kill the demon."
" Can we use them?"
"As I explained before, we are unable to reproduce those radiations ourselves, since we never even seen something even remotely close."
"Hmmm, at least that thing is dead!"
"...As you say, sir."

"Phew, this was a productive day."
I sat on the hill of corpses that I just made. There was a mixture of wolves, spiders, some horse monkey hybrids, and those small humanoids that turned out to be called goblins.
When I decided that I had enough of walking I tried to make a bait with the corpses of the monsters I have slain.
The result?
A frigid army came in my direction, giving me a hard time killing them all. When I was finally done, I had so much mana sacs that my appetite finally felt appeased.
"Bhupp damn I deal heavy. I need to do some exercise."
During the fight, I leveled up twice and got injured regularly. Trying to heal myself, I used my power on my body, closing the wounds. The results were quite surprising. Even with my wounds gone, my HP didn't recuperate. Maybe the system didn't recognize it as healing so it didn't update it. In any case, this type of technique is only for fighting when you are fighting a difficult battle and you need to heal your limbs to fight more.

I will call it [Patchworkl Body].
I grabbed the handle of my axe, which was embedded in the skull of those monkey horses, and put it on my back.
With the abundant quantity of materials at my disposal, I made some clothing for myself.
For starters, I made something like a cape that covered my entire body from the skin of the wolves with a special socket for my axe.
I also made something like a pair of daggers from a giant spider's fang, as a secondary weapon that stayed poisonous without the poison gland, that I put on a holster, tied around my waist, akin to a belt.
This made me feel safer and more civilized.
While walking some monster tried to approach me, but I killed them without any problem, leaving the scavengers behind me.
Since the day I killed those group of goblins more and more beings started to follow me, eating the corpses that I left behind.
After a while, we had a non-verbal agreement. They will keep a fair distance from me and I won't kill them.
Unconsciously, I went in the direction of the orc village.
Well, I have already massacred a lot of beings, this bunch shouldn't be that hard.
While I approached the settlement the monsters around me ran away or they steeped aside from my way.
That's right, be afraid. After I am done with these pigs I will come for your asses.
The orcs must have felt my approach, they fortified the walls with more wood, and there were some patrolling guards walking around with torches.
Now that I see them, I just realized that this cave was kinda dark.
How am I even able to see? is it a perk that is not mentioned? Well, who cares, really.
Using one of my skills [Presence concealent] I approached one of the guards, who wasn't even able to notice me. Not surprisingly, this skill kept me hidden from a giant spider that was standing right before me. If I don't sudden movements (like killing his friend right next to him), I am invisible.
I stud right in his face, then with my sharpened claws i stabbed its chest and ripped out its mana sac, killing it on the spot.
"Sweet."
[Mana sac and mana core consumed.]
[30 SE received.]
I grabbed the torch of the orc and went to the next one, then to the next one.
When I was standing at the only entrance of the village I had around 7 torches enough for what I was planning to do.
First I killed the two guards standing there, then with my power I raised a stone wall, looking over the village.
It was more of a camp than a village really. There were huge tent-like structures closely packed to each other, made from wood and animal skins. Surprisingly there were no orcs outside.
They might be sleeping. There is no son so it's hard to tell if it's day or night anyway.
Nonchalantly, I threw the torches on the nearest tents of the orcs setting them on fire.
They were paced closely to each other, so the fire quickly spread, turning the silent village into a hellscape.
I watched living beings run and burn before my eyes yet I just stud there slowly eating the collected sacs, while watching them burn to ash.
A pity for their sacs, it would have been a feast. Maybe it is still edible when cooked.
[New title received: [Arcenist] ]
[ Skill [Mearciless] been replaced by: [Degenerate] ]
That's fair, but this is an easy way to get rid of them.

I noticed that a group of orcs rushed into the biggest tent and didn't come out.
Is there a safe room or something like that in the tent? It would be troublesome if there were any survivors I should get rid of them before things get even more complicated.
I jumped down to the middle of the village where the flames haven't spread yet and slowly walked to the biggest tent in the village.
Some orcs tried to stop me, but I disposed of them, not even using my blades.
Seriously, how did a weak race like them survived in this place?
"Stop!"
What's this?
It was a little orc, not even tall enough to reach my knees, holding a breach as a club.
"Don't take another step or... or I will hurt you!"
Cute.
I kneeled down and with two of my fingers, I break his weapon in two.
"Scram kid. Before you will be burned to well done and I eat you."
What? I obviously won't kill a kid, I still have a moral compass, even if it was really crocked!
I pushed aside the kid and I entered the tent.
To my surprise completely empty, with only a passageway to somewhere underground.
"...This is getting interesting."
I slowly went down the stairs using my [Presence Concealment] so that no one notices me.
I found myself in an underground ruin of what seemed to be an abandoned church or something like that.
From the farthest end of the building, I could see several beings standing around candle lights.
While slowly approaching them, i grabbed my knives in case things turns bad.
"Milord, we need to go! We don't know when the resistance will find this place!"
"Where do you want to go?! The whole village is a hellscape! No, we will continue! If we manage to revive her, then we will surely escape from here! Alive!"
I went behind the biggest one and with a decisive strike a swing my knife at its head.
Contrary to its corpulent body, the orc dodged the attack and countered by kicking me in the chest.
"My lord? Wha-An intruder!"
Tch, so they noticed me. Guess even this skill has its limit.
Without any hesitation, i charged at the orcs again this I was stopped by what seemed like a barrier made of faint blue light.
Is there someone with the same powers as that girl? This might become dangerous, I need to be careful and kill these guys before they kill me.
"My lord, let me take care of this intruder."
"Hmmm, I allow it. Show me the strengths that I acknowledged. "
One of the orcs stepped out of the barrier, cracking his knuckles. He was thinner than the others and had multiple scars on his body.
I didn't know why but it irritated me to look at him. Is this from the previous owner of this body? I hope he's happy because I'm going to kill this guy.
"You know, I am the strongest orc in the entire village! With my level 5 strength, no one on this floor can resist me!"
"Level 5? And you are the strongest?"
"Ha, scared?! Well, curse your luck for challenging me!"
The orc ran at me, his fist high in the air.
"Level 5-
Slash.
- What a joke."
While he was running at me, i put away my daggers, grabbed my axe, and cut the orc into two, the pieces falling behind me loudly.
"One down, three to go."
Even though levels are not a defined way to tell someone's strength, they are still an indication of one's competence. An unarmed level 5 against an armed level 8 couldn't do too much.
"M-Mage, do something!"
"Milord, I am using my strengths to maintain the barrier!"
"Fucking useless... Fine! Kid, protect him while I get rid of this thrash myself!"
From thin air, a huge sword appeared in his hand while he came out of the barrier.
This guy seems stronger than the last one. I should go all out to finish this thing.
I took off my cape revealing my deformed body to the orc.
"What in the world are you?! Who sent you?! Was it those damn rebels?!"
"...No one. I'm just hungry and you guys are delicious."
He seemed shocked by my answer, giving me the chance to strike.
I started by throwing one of my knives in his face.
He dodged it again, but he couldn't evade the second one that hit his leg.
"MMMPPPPPHHHH! You bastard!"
He threw away the knife and not caring about the wound on his leg he started to run in my direction.
"Idiot. Let's get this over with."
I grabbed my weapon with both of my hands and charged.
When we finally got close to each other, we clashed our weapons together.
Not betraying his size, the orc's blow was supper strong almost pushing me backward.
Okay so, I should not take his attacks head-on.
Before he could squash with me his body mass, I jumped backward and pressed my hand on the ground.
"Reconstruction. Spears X3."
Before me, multiple rock spears launched themselves at the orc.
With a loud belly laugh, he destroyed the spears with a strong swing of his sword.
"Bahahahahah! Useless! Clif Cutter!"
The sword of the orc became covered in a dark red aura, which, when the orc made a vertical slash, left the blade as an energy projectile.
"Reconstruction. Wall."
I raised a wall before me, trying to block the attack.
...Bam! Slash!
.... Damn it. I was careless.
The attack was too powerful, it went through the wall and reached me, severing my left arm and leg. Blood spilled out of the wounds, making a big puddle of blood next to me.
"This is quite painful."
I knew that I was greatly wounded but the pain hasn't registered in my brain so it gave me time to fix this.
With my remaining arm, I picked up my two severed pieces and concentrated.
"Reconstruction, Patchwork Body."
I made my lines crawl all over the severed limbs, destroying and remaking them on my body.
When there was nothing left, my leg and arm were good as new.
The orcs who seen this had their jaws dropped to the floor.
"Mage! What just happened!"
"Milord,...I ...have no idea...it was like it absorbed it."
I moved my legs and arms to make sure to function properly then I grabbed my axe with both hands.
Good, this worked. I wasn't too confident in it working on this extent of damage so I was quite nervous.
Still, I have lost a lot of blood so i need to be careful.
While the orcs were still arguing I raised my axe above my head.
"Battle Axe Style, Vertical Strike."
I jumped at the orc, swinging in the air. The force of the strike was so great that it made me do a salto in the air, giving the strike more momentum.
[New technique learned: [Spining Strike]]
Nice then what about this?
When the orc blocked my attack, i kicked his sword so that I can distance myself.
"Battle Axe Style, Horizontal Strike."
I charged again and he blocked it again.
This guy is good at blocking.
Not losing my momentum I launched a series of attacks.
"Horizontal Strike, Vertical Strike, Vertical Strike, Horizontal, Horizontal..."
[New technique learned: [Mad Flow Strikes]]
"Enough of this!"
With a pike of strengths, the orc pushed me backward. He was sweating greatly, his arms were shaking and his breath could be seen from overheating.
"I'm going to finish this nonsense once and for all! Orc's heart! "
His body became covered in a dark read. his size became expand while his fat became rock hard muscles.
"DIE! ORC'S BURNING STRIKE! ORC'S DECISIVE STRIKES"
The sword of the orc became covered in crimson red flames while he made his attacks that fley in my direction.
"Unnatural Body. Mad Flow Strikes. "
Combining my newly learned attack and the power that allowed me to bend in weird ways, I parid and dogged the incoming attacks, wet it wants enough.
Thang!
While I countered one of the slashes, my axe shattered into small pieces.
No time to rebuild it, I continued to dodge the attacks, with little success.
One leg, a forearm, finger then head.
This was the order with the orc cut me.
The pieces of me were gathered at the farthest end of the ruin from the wind made from the slashes.
My body was in pieces, bleeding like a fountain, yet I was not dead yet.
I could still feel the pain and think.
And there was the floating rectangle before my face.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
