《The Dark Star Emperors》Chapter 63: A Butterfly's Friend

As the butterfly flew into the skies, she looked down as if she was looking for somebody. It was a cloudy day, so she was able to hide among the clouds.
The three girls wore their cloaks and hid within the shadows unseen from many eyes. They followed the creature's shadows and as long as they could sense a Night Demon, they knew they were close.
As they followed, Yune explained her plan to her fellow night guardians.
"We'll see if this monster really is what it says it is," Yune said determined to find out, "If it decides to attack anybody, then we'll swoop in and kill it before it does anything. That will prove once and for all that these Night Demons are nothing but monsters that, even if one is able to somehow get a mind, will eventually resort to its primal instincts. Its inherent instinct to hurt. Its instinct to want nothing but cause suffering and pain for others."
As the three girls followed their new Night Demon "friend", they each noticed that it had just been flying aimlessly. It's like it didn't know where it was going. Although, they guessed that there wouldn't be many places for a Night Demon to just hang out especially in the morning. All it could do was hide in the clouds.
Then, as they watched it, Schmetter began to circle around a certain area. It looked like an abandoned warehouse. The three girls looked at the place and noticed there were two kids there playing a video game on an old TV just outside the warehouse. Just a couple of boys enjoying their weekend.
"What is it doing?" Yune quietly asked aloud.
"It looks like it's circling those kids like a vulture. But it's a little hard to tell. We're only able to barely see it by it's shadow," Mary replied.

Then, suddenly, Schmetter decided to lunge down towards those children.
"Shit. We have to save them," Yune panicked.
"Wait," Jack said as she held her arm to stop her, "Not yet."
"What are you talking about? It's about to go after those kids. We have to save them," Yune said.
Mary stood back and waited as Jack instructed. It felt strange for Jack and Mary that the creature would openly attack them.
Then, suddenly, as Shmetter lunged towards them, another Night Demon slithered out from inside the dark and cobwebbed warehouse. It hissed and was about to sink it's fangs into the two kids. It was a man-sized snake with two arms. It had claws that could tear through steel. And it's fangs were twice as big as those claws. It wore a leather jacket with patches of bird heads stapled to it's shoulders.
None of the three could sense it as their senses were already picking up Schmetter.
The kids screamed and just as the Night Demon was about to bare it's fangs, a giant butterfly monster swooped in - Schmetter. It's wings were elegant and beautiful, yet frightening to anybody who saw them. She grabbed the children, dodged the snake's bite, and dropped the kids away.
Then, the two boys ran away in fear from both the monsters. Schmetter landed some feet away from the monster. They were both in broad daylight, but neither cared.
"Koblange," the creature cried with a hiss.
Schmetter looked at Koblange's eyes and saw just an animal without any control over itself.
Her wings expanded and the patterns moved around. The black patterns turned into two unblinking eyes staring back at the snake. It hissed back, but was uninterested in fighting right now.
Schmetter blew one gust of wind as a warning at the creature. It's was push back, but held itself down. Koblange hissed while salivating. Poison came dripping out of her fangs. Each one that dripped to the ground turned the concrete into acid. Then, the snake began to slither back into the shadows within the warehouse.

Shmetter sighed in relief. She wasn't confident in winning any fight, but was glad she could scare it off. And most importantly, she was glad that those two boys were safe. She looked back to see that the boys had already run off. There was nobody around and she doubted that anybody would believe those two young kids. They'd just chalk it up as their imagination.
Schmetter lunged up and flew back into the clouds.
Meanwhile, the three girls hid in the shadows atop of the rooftops behind old pipes and air-conditioners.
"So, looks like Schmetter isn't all that bad," Jack said.
"That seems fair. Want to kill that Night Demon hiding in there?" Mary asked.
"Sure. Sounds good to me," Jack replied.
"Wait. No. We still need to follow it," Yune said.
Jack sighed, "Come on, Yune. She clearly has a conscious. She helped those two kids."
"Don't call it a she," Yune yelled, "That thing is a monster. Nothing else."
"What does it matter? This one doesn't seem any different than Tasha," Mary said.
"It is. I don't know how or why, but I feel it in my bones. Something about that creature is familiar," Yune replied, "Come on. Let's not lose it."
Jack and Mary looked at each other in confusion, but they continued to follow the creature. They were unsure why Yune felt such a strong connection towards this single Night Demon, but they couldn't argue with her. She would just shut them down.
Schmetter still flew aimlessly. And then Night came.

OutRage: Total Realism.
What happens when a game company strives for total immersion and realism from a VRMMO?Players require food, sleep, personal hygeine, air to breathe and everything else required for life. The up side is that its still a game, Players respawn, can use magic, can basically do anything they want with obvious exceptions like: not going to prison for assassinating a ruling monarch, not that you cant do it only that its very hard to do.In comes our protagonist a university student majoring in the sciences, namely chemistry. His name is Henry Jacobs, 19 years old and a complete loner.A new VRMMO game was annouced and it bragged and boasted about how it would be the first in a new era of VR gaming as it would give the game a total of 100% realism, meaning when you get hit it hurts, when you walk into a dungeon full of zombies it will stink as you'd expect like rottting corpses. This game is titled Outrage: Total Realism. Which was a joke made by the publishers knowing how most people would be either excited or enraged.
