《The Dark Star Emperors》Chapter 100: Mary's Revenge

Yune sat alone with Eli during a dark night. They didn't speak, but enjoyed each other's company. It was quiet and serene. A few clouds outside. No wind or chills. Nothing that could ruin their night.
And when an hour of silence passed, Yune said her goodbyes and leapt out the window. And Eli was alone again. The silence carried over, but Eli wasn't alone.
Mary hid in her cloak among the shadows of the room. Darkness was all around them, but it soothed her. She looked at Eli and was reminded of her sister. The one that betrayed her. It was around a couple hundred years ago, but to Mary, it still felt like yesterday.
But this wasn't the first time that Mary saw Eli. She saw her when she first followed Yune there at that hospital. She recognized the girl, but couldn't believe it. However, it wasn't the same. Eli was far younger than her sister. So, Mary did her own research into the girl.
And when she found out the truth, she approached out of the shadows. Eli noticed her and thought it was Yune, but she was different. The cloak was the same, but the eyes were purple.
Mary took off her cloak and mask. They vanished into a dark mist.
"Who are you?" Eli asked weakly.
Mary looked at Eli with dark and purple eyes. She saw her treacherous sister and knew the reason. But she didn't know what to do with that knowledge. So, first, she wanted to speak with Eli.
"You don't know me," Mary replied, "When I first laid my eyes on you, I saw somebody who I didn't think I'd see again. But that is still the case. You are not who I thought you were. When I awakened into this world, I didn't feel like I had a purpose. And then I followed Yune after she mentioned a girl called Elizabeth. Since I was brought back from hell, I thought that maybe my sister could have come back, too. But I wanted to be sure. So, I took some of your hair and sent it to some legit-looking family site to figure out whether we were related. Turns out what they found is that you are related to me, but not as a sister. Apparently, you are a lost descendant of hers. So, I guess that makes me like a very great-auntie."

Eli seemed to listen, and Mary continued, "Before, I would no doubt have just killed you if I knew. I would have considered it an act of vengeance. My sister took my life, and, since I can't get her, I'll take the closest thing to her. Her blood. But when I look at you, I don't feel so certain. I'm sure that I wouldn't be struggling. She's probably watching from heaven or hell, and I would gladly rip her descendant apart to get back at her. But she's dead. And you're not her. I don't feel any want or need to do anything to you."
Mary walked over to the window and looked out at the bright full moon that lit the city brighter than any of the artificial lights.
She continued, "Since I met Yune and Jack, I felt like they were a better family than what I used to think a family was. I know that Jack is just using me to find some other girl. And Yune probably doesn't want us as a family. But ever since they saved me, I've never felt this feeling. A feeling of gratitude towards somebody else. While I was a queen, people only did things for me just because they feared me or because I had some mind control powers. Those two don't fear me at all and are completely unaffected by my powers. It's a whole new experience. As for you, I don't feel any kind of fire towards you. Unlike Jack whose flame burns brightest for revenge, I don't have that feeling. I just don't have it in me to do anything to somebody whose only sin against me was being born with my enemy's blood."
Mary was ready to leap out of the building to leave Eli alone. With one foot out the window, she continued, "Whatever happened to you and Yune doesn't relate to me. I will leave your fate to whatever she decides."

But before Mary left, she found it strange that Eli wasn't saying anything to her. She looked back at Eli whose eyes were closed. She hurried back inside and checked up on the girl. Mary became worried that she just witnessed the girl's death, but she was snoring to her pleasant surprise.
And then Eli suddenly awoke.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Eli said, "I dozed off there. So, uh, I think I missed your introduction. Who are you?"
Mary walked back to the window and was ready to leave. And since she knew that Eli wasn't listening at all to Mary's heartfelt speech, she yelled, "You're a bitch and so is your great-great-great-great-grandmother!"
Then, Mary leapt out as Eli became confused rather than insulted.
Mary didn't feel like harming the girl. She had no reason to enact vengeance to somebody who had died so long ago on somebody who had zero idea about it.
And then Eli was seemingly alone again.
But then she looked to another corner and saw somebody walk backwards into the shadows.
"Who's there?" Eli asked as she began to see another cloaked figure, but she faded back into the shadows and vanished. At first, she thought it was just her imagination, but after seeing Yune and some other dark girl, she wasn't certain of that. There was a semblance of a mask before it faded back into the shadows. It was black with two eye holes, but there was no color coming out of them. And there was a drawn-on eye on the mask's forehead.
She knew that she was being watched, but she felt no aggression coming from it. It just stood in the dark keeping a close eye on her as if it was a guardian angel.
Eli closed her eyes and before she slept, she said aloud knowing that there was somebody else there, "I'm getting a lot of visits, today. I must be famous or something."
But the cloaked figure hid in the shadows with no intention of introducing itself.

The Weather Vane
This is the first few chapter of my new book available on Amazon. The beginning is very light and fun, but more mature content comes later. From medieval fantasy to ultra high-tech to dinosaurs, The Weather Vane is a grippingly fast-paced adventure full of fun and excitement, literary flourish, and colorful characters. A group of ascendant masters find themselves in the afterlife and learn that they are newly recruited into the cosmic battle of good versus evil. Before they can join the fight, shipwreck strikes and they are lost in the ether. Stranded in a magical land beyond the reaches of the universe, The Weather Vane follows our crew of heroes as they try to piece things back together even while The Dark Lord’s forces march, maraud, and murder at every turn. Themes of darkness chase the overall levity of The Weather Vane which suffers not a lull as the climax begins near the beginning of the book and drives on through the greatly satisfying finish. The most epic of epics.
