《Song of the Unborn》27. A Lesson Painfully learnt

Kalos created another set of armour before dashing towards the death beam his father headshot.
He tried stopping it with crossed arms, but the beam was far larger than he was and so it completely burnt him.
Kalosýni’s screamed out in pain as he got cooked alive before summoning Reu, charging it with as much magic as he could and slashing away at the beam with all of his might.
This lead to an arc of magic flying across the sky, ripping the air apart which resulted in a massive shockwave.
Kalos turned his burnt head and saw that the beam was gone.
Raymond walked over to where his son was. He was still in his gigantic bird-like form, so he towered over Kalos who sizzled as smoke rose from his body.
[Not bad, but I’m still standing.]
Raymond said before releasing another beam aimed at the camp where Estella and the others were.
Kalos tried to fly towards it, but Raymond resumed his assault on Kalos, who did his best to dash away, but Raymond caught him and squeezed him as he forced him to watch as the beam of death made its way toward the camp.
Kalosýni’s burnt face twisted as he struggled to break free from his father’s grasp.
He then stopped once he realized that his father would never kill Estella and the others, so he stopped struggling as he carefully watched the beam crawl toward the camp.
A moment passed and Kalos then realized that his father wasn’t moving.
“Dad?” Kalos called out, but the gigantic bird Raymond stood completely still as the beam got even closer to the camp.
“Dad!” Kalos yelled as he frantically tried breaking free from his father’s clutches, but Raymond’s grip only got stronger.
“No! Let me go! Stop this!” Kalos screamed even though his lungs had already been squeezed out.
A loud explosion then came from where the camp once was before the beam disappeared.
Kalos watched as smoke slowly rose from the campsite. His heart ached as he wondered if Estella and the others were ok.
Kalos broke down into tears as Raymond’s grip loosened.
Kalos fell to the ground and remained there as he wept.
Raymond looked into his son’s eyes, but couldn’t find any traces of hatred, only sadness.
Raymond sighed as he stood upright.
[Listen, son. I’m sorry-]
Raymond was interrupted by a blue lightning bolt that struck Kalos directly.
Kalosýni’s body trembled as he groaned.
More lightning bolts struck Kalos and at some point, it seemed as though all of the lightning in the world was hitting Kalos, whose body convulsed with each strike.
The lightning storm eventually stopped as blue particles gently floated towards Kalosýni’s body.
They covered his body seamlessly as they glowed.
Raymond reached out to touch his son, but then his entire left hand disappeared.
The world shook as a massive shockwave blew Raymond’s large body backwards.
Raymond looked and saw that his son was standing completely upright.
“Is this what you wanted?” Kalos asked, but it felt like his voice was coming from almost everywhere.
Raymond raised his right hand in submission only to have it disappear as well. This resulted in another shockwave that send Raymond flying backwards.
“Am I ready now, father?” Kalos asked as Reu glowed incredibly brightly in Kalosýni’s hands.
[Kalos… wait...]
Raymond said as his arms bled profusely.
Kalos floated towards him unnervingly slowly.
Raymond’s left leg disappeared as he desperately crawled towards a nearby cliff.
Raymond desperately tried flapping his wings as the world was bathed with a beautiful pale blue light.

Kalos then dropped Reu.
His face had long since healed, but the pain of being burnt was still fresh in his mind.
“Father… show yourself to me,” Kalos asked before Raymond shrunk.
His form returned to his original knight-like appearance, but the massive orb of light above his head remained the same.
Raymond opened his mouth to speak when suddenly multiple flares of magic erupted from Kalos.
In the next instant, Kalos dashed towards his father and stopped right in front of Raymond, tearing the ground apart as he moved.
Raymond stood completely still as his son glared at him, but even though Kalos was emitting levels of energy that could potentially tear Raymond in half, Raymond couldn’t feel any hatred.
Kalos then spread his arms and wrapped them around Raymond before he wept.
Raymond raised his hand and touch Kalosýni’s hair, which had become cerulean blue.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to push you that far.” Raymond said as Kalosýni wept.
Raymond sat down and pulled Kalos down with him.
Kalos wept as the world trembled. The clouds had long since fled and the sun felt a little less bright.
Raymond gazed in absolute awe as Kalosýni’s magic extended towards the stars as it threatened to tear reality apart.
“Shh,” Raymond said as Kalos continued to cry.
“Oi!” Raymond heard Peeta call in the distance.
Raymond didn’t let Kalos go as he raised his head.
“What in the world did you do?” Peeta asked as he made contact with one of Kalosýni’s magical flares.
“Ouch!” Peeta yelped in pain as Eevana approached the same flare.
She reached out to touch it and her hand gracefully glided through the stream of magic.
She then ran towards Raymond and Kalos, her face expressionless.
Eevana then knelt by Raymond’s side as he held the weeping Kalos.
“What happened?” She asked.
Raymond had long since absorbed his power, so it was safe for her to be near him.
“I… I wanted to test him, but I may have taken things a little too far.” Raymond said.
“Oh? Then you are to blame for this.” Eevana said coldly.
“Y- yes,” Raymond admitted as Eevana reached out to touch Kalos. She gently placed her hand on Kalosýni’s face, causing him to flinch a little.
“Kalos...” Eevana whispered.
“It’s ok.” She said softly, but Kalos continued to weep.
Well, that’s what Raymond thought, Eevana could feel Kalos suppressing his anger and rage.
Which was strange because his anger wasn’t directed at Raymond.
“Umm… we need to move,” Peeta said as a low hum echoed throughout the landscape.
“Ok,” Raymond said as he tried lifting Kalos.
“No, leave him. I have a feeling that he’s going to explode.” Peeta said, but Raymond held onto Kalos regardless.
“Raymond. Let him go.” Eevana said.
Raymond looked at Kalos who still wept before letting him go.
Raymond, Eevana and Peeta then ran to the east.
“Now, explain yourself,” Eevana said as a faint frown formed on her forehead.
“I shot at Estella,” Raymond said, causing Peeta to facepalm as they ran.
“If we die today, I’m going to make sure that your soul knows no peace,” Peeta yelled as Kalosýni’s magic grew even more potent, so much so that Peeta burned just by coming into contact with the residual magic in the air.
The three continued to run, but then all of Kalosýni’s magic suddenly disappeared, much to Peeta’s relief.
They then stopped running, but just as Raymond looked back, he felt something cold and sharp on his neck.

Raymond’s eyes widened as he saw a blue being floating gracefully above him.
“Kalos, are you ok?” Peeta asked, but the blue being didn’t say anything.
Peeta’s knees then buckled when he realized that the being wasn’t emitting any magical energy.
Raymond stood completely still.
Eevana touched the blue being's arm, but it didn’t respond, even as tears ran down its face.
The being then slowly floated backwards and raised its sword as though it were challenging Raymond.
Raymond looked at Peeta.
“Don’t look at me,” Peeta said as he backed away.
Eevana joined him as they left Raymond to his fate. They continued running back to the camp as Raymond met the gaze of the blue being.
Its clothes had long since been burnt and its bright pale blue hair and eyes made it seem almost ethereal.
Raymond nodded to himself before his orb appeared above his head. His body was then covered in glorious white armour.
Kalos nodded before summoning what looked like another Reu.
Raymond flinched at this but summoned his own fosblade.
Kalosýni’s body then twisted as another arm tore out of his back. It too had a Reu in hand.
Another arm popped out of Kalosýni’s back, giving him four arms and four Reu’s.
Raymond zapped towards Kalos in an attempt to chop off one of his arms, but time seemingly slowed to a crawl.
Kalos walked towards Raymond and kicked him in the chest, shattering his armour and cracking several ribs.
Raymond flew back as time returned to normal, but he hit the ground pretty hard, so it took some time for him to regain a sense of where he was.
Unfortunately, by the time he got up, Kalos was already right in front of him.
Raymond chuckled to himself, before swinging his fully charged fosblade diagonally across Kalosýni’s chest, but the light that was in Raymond’s fosblade scattered outwards and fizzled out until it became harmless.
Raymond formed another fosblade and tried stabbing Kalos in the face, only to have it disintegrate into nothing.
Raymond then raised his fist to punch Kalos, but Kalos caught both of Raymond’s hands and picked him up.
“Dad… I want to hurt you… so badly…” Kalos said, his usually playful and youthful voice was laden with sadness.
Raymond swallowed loudly, his eyes wide.
“I- I know-" Raymond didn’t even get to finish what he was saying before Kalosýni’s other arm punched Raymond square in the face.
The other arm dropped its Reu, only for the sword to float by Kalosýni’s side.
Kalos then proceeded to punch his father again, but with twice the force of the previous one as Raymond hung in his arms.
Kalos looked at his father’s face and saw that there was barely any visible damage.
Kalos then sent a bit of his magic to his true right arm and punched Raymond in the face again, but this time, he completely shattered Raymond’s nose.
Raymond’s body reacted instinctively and shot out a beam of light from his orb, but the beam passed through Kalos harmlessly.
Kalos then ascended with his father in hand, before head butting him back to the ground, but Kalos knew that his father was fast, so he recalled all of his Reu's and slashed away at the ground around Raymond.
This created a wall of magical energy that threatened to grind Raymond to dust should he touch it.
Raymond chose to fly upwards instead, but Kalos was there waiting for him.
Raymond sent a punch towards Kalosýni’s face, only to have it flicked away.
Kalos kicked Raymond in the chest again, shattering the unbroken ribs, but Kalos didn’t stop there.
He dropped his Reu’s and punched his father serval times, but Raymond’s orb wouldn’t have any of this. It needed to protect its host and so it shot out multiple death beams at Kalos only for them to be absorbed by Kalos.
Raymond fell to the ground.
His armour was beyond destroyed and actual blood came from his wounds.
He knew that only more pain awaited him if he held back any longer and so he charged up his body, but quickly realized that Kalos was coming his way extremely quickly.
Raymond raised his hands in defence, only to have them shattered by one of Kalosýni’s kicks.
Raymond fell to the ground only to have Kalos kick him in the knees, shattering his legs.
Raymond tried his best to heal himself, but Kalos noticed this and raised his Reu's.
Raymond tried crawling away, but Kalos stuck one of his swords into Raymond’s leg. The point of the blade broke through Raymond’s shin and emerged on the other side of his leg.
Raymond held his screams of pain in and shot Kalos with all the death beams he could create. The world was bathed in white light.
Kalosýni’s face barely flinched as he walked over towards Raymond’s head. There he grabbed the orb that hadn’t stopped blasting him.
“Wait! Kalos no-"
A loud shattering noise came from the orb as Kalos crashed it.
“Aaaarrggg!”
Raymond, for the first time, screamed in pain as Kalos ground his orb to dust.
Blood oozed out of Raymond’s eyes and his body spasmed in pain as Kalos crouched over him.
“Sorry,” Kalos said before punching Raymond in the face, lodging his head into the ground.
Kalos punched him again, shattering the ground around them and punched him again.
Kalos punched his father over and over again as blood coated his beautiful blue body.
Kalos didn’t leave a single bone in his father’s body unbroken as he attacked.
Kalosýni’s arms then went limp as he stood up.
He looked around and found the life forces belonging to Estella and the others before sighing.
He then knelt over his father and touched his chest. Kalos then sent an incredible amount of magical energy into Raymond who screamed in pain as Kalos forced his magic into him.
Raymond’s body twisted and turned as it healed.
“Arrg!” Raymond yelled as he regained consciousness.
He then turned to Kalos to see that although he had fought pretty well, Kalos had used up almost zero of his overall power.
Raymond trembled as he stumbled onto his feet.
“G- g- good job. You… are more than ready to protect-"
“Who says I’m done?” Kalos asked.
Raymond trembled as tears welled up in his eyes.
“I’m sorry.” Raymond cried as he fell to his knees.
For the first time in his life, Raymond had tasted complete defeat and it was at the hands of his son. If it wasn’t for the tremendous amount of fear he felt, he would have been proud.
“I didn’t mean to push you that far. Please… forgive me.” Raymond begged but Kalos knew that his father had far more fight in him than that, so he ascended to the sky.
He looked at his father and sighed.
“There’s no need for you to apologize. I understand. Actually, I sympathize with you. What if someone extremely powerful tries to take what’s ours? What will we do? I know what we will do. We’ll defend them, we will protect them, even if it costs our very lives.” Kalos said as he spread his four arms.
Raymond trembled even more as tears rolled down his face. His mind screamed as it freshly remembered what Kalos had done to him.
Raymond then took a deep breath before raising his arms for battle, but Kalos quickly zapped towards his father, blowing away whatever hope of winning Raymond had left.
He literally couldn’t do anything, so he tried running away.
Raymond zapped towards the farthest mountain he could see, but Kalos mirrored his every move before rushing in to kick him in the face, sending Raymond crashing into the side of the mountain.
Raymond formed two fosblades and charged them up before violently swinging them in the direction Kalos was in, but Kalos remained unaffected by the attacks.
Raymond charged up his legs and dashed away at a speed that warped space itself. He hoped that Kalos wouldn’t be able to keep up with him, but it wasn’t long before Kalos grabbed Raymond’s leg and threw him back into the mountainside.
Raymond’s orb shot out several death beams at Kalos, but Kalos took them head-on with no consequence.
Raymond then waved his hands in defeat.
“I give up! I surrender.” Raymond yelled, but Kalosýni’s expression remained unchanged.
“Oh? Aren’t you supposed to be the eminence? You are strong, prideful and above all, you are my father. Come, dad, let’s prepare for the coming of the apocalypse.” Kalos said as he smiled.
Raymond coughed up what looked like blood as he clawed at the dirt.
“Ok!” He wheezed as he got up.
Kalos nodded before descending to where Raymond was. He extended his hand towards his father’s neck and gently held Raymond as he trembled.
“Good,” Kalos said before all four of his arms grabbed Raymond neck, quickly breaking it in the process.
Raymond felt himself slowly fade before Kalos injected him with another wave of magic that healed his neck.
Raymond gasped for air and frantically kicked Kalos in an attempt to free himself from his son’s grasp.
Kalos ascended above the clouds, with his father in hand before kicking him back to the ground.
Raymond landed relatively unharmed, but Kalos hurtled towards his father and landed on his back, crushing all of his internal organs and breaking serval bones.
Raymond let out a gross squawk as he was flattened, that’s when Peeta arrived at the scene.
Kalos healed his father as Peeta witnessed the gruesome sight.
“Kalos, I think that’s enough,” Peeta suggested as Eevana caught up.
“Yes, Kalos. We should head back now,” Eevana suggested.
Kalos then turned his almost divine gaze on Eevana and Peeta.
Peeta collapsed and he fell backwards while Eevana remained unaffected.
“Come Kalos, it’s time to rest,” Eevana said.
“Ok,” Kalos said as he extended his hand towards his father.
Raymond looked at his son but still couldn’t see any hatred in his eyes.
Raymond extended a trembling hand and grabbed Kalosýni’s hand, before slowly rising to his feet.
