《Demise of the Gods》Chapter 7: Restitution

"I HAVE TO LEAVE HERE NOW REX, I HAVE TO GO TO MY FAMILY" the boy shouted at Rex
"Calm down, it could be nothing, let's just wait a moment before you jump to conclusions" Rex responded
The earth began to tremble beneath their feet. The vibrations were getting stronger and stronger and the sand at their feet could be seen shaking. A sound could be heard as if something was trampling the earth, like that of an army running on a plain of land.
"Ok, maybe I was wrong maybe it isn't nothing," Rex said
"Let's find a way to get out of here now" the boy said with a look of determination on his face.
"As I said before, these shackles are made of -"
"I know, but still, we have to get out" the boy interjected
"You really are stubborn, even if we do get out, we're still 4 miles off the eastern border of Kólasi, we won't make it anytime soon, we should just wait here until someone comes to help" Rex said
"Wait for help? Who knows if help will even come and even if it does, it might be too late" the boy said angrily
"You're being really persistent on leaving right now when you know the situation we're in, we're in no position to leave, we have to wait" Rex implored
" You're right, we have to hope the cavalry comes in" the boy said depressingly
The boy was getting impatient as he sat on the ground and more explosions could be heard getting louder and louder.
"Yo, even if you leave here now, what can you do?" Rex asked
"I'll -"
"Let me answer that question for you, the answer is nothing, in the state you're in, you wouldn't even be able to fight an unarmed man, you've grown weak in your time in the well" Rex said seriously.
"It doesn't matter, I still have to try to reach them no matter what" the boy responded
The boy had a look about him, his decision was unwavering, no matter what Rex was going to say it wasn't going to change the boy's mind.

"Listen, I need to have a serious talk with you right now"
"Now of all times Rex?"
"You aren't going anywhere for awhile, you might as well listen, to be frank, I don't give a fuck about your family, all I care about is you being safe right now"
"Rex.......I understand what it is you're trying to say, but no matter what I have to reach them, regardless of my life"
"You seem to be resolute in this.............I had no intention of doing this at this point time as I wished to spend more time with you but because you're so insistent on it, you leave me no choice"
"What are you saying Rex...."
"My initial plan was to pass on all of my knowledge to you and then leave but the way things are going, chances are when you leave here, you're going to go to the city and probably die like a dog even with people supporting you as they won't be able to protect you all the time and if I follow, I may also die without the restitution of what's yours and I can't allow that to happen, whilst I could just put you to sleep and take you away, you'd hate me for the rest of your life and I wouldn't be able to bear that"
The room went dead silent and Rex's eyes could be seen getting red and teary.
"In our mind's, we always think and plan things out, and it always seems easy, but when the time comes for us to carry out those thoughts, it sometimes is the most difficult thing in the world," Rex said as he began to cry
"What are you talking about?" the boy inquired
"I'm sorry for everything that has happened and for what's about to happen, forgive me......."
"What do you mean?"
"You don't need to know now, but I hope when the time comes you'll forgive me for putting this burden on you"
Rex lifted his arms and without a single effort, the shackles on his arms broke and he then stood up and broke off the remaining shackles on his legs.

The boy stood up staring at Rex.
"Rex, what's the meaning of this?" the boy implored
He gave no response and slowly walked towards the boy crying.
The tears stopped as he stood in front of the boy face to face.
"You gave me a life, which I could only dream of and I won't lie, when I heard that you had come back it was one of the happiest moments in my life but when I heard about the state you were in and what you had been through, I cried for days at the thought of what you had been through" Rex said and an air of melancholy could be felt surrounding Rex by the boy.
Rex hugged the boy tightly and whispered into the boy's ear "Forgive me"
Using one of his nails, Rex dug into the boy's left arm and took some of the blood and placed some unto his lips and then he ingested some and then stepped away from the boy.
"Hoc est de sanguine originis et successori" Rex chanted over and over
A dark red aura could be seen forming around Rex's body.
"The first part of the ritual is complete" Rex said
"WHAT'S GOING ON!?" the boy yelled at the top of his lungs
Rex reapproached the boy and tore off the shackles binding him.
"This is the part I was begging you for forgiveness for, do you forgive me?" Rex asked and began crying again.
"Forgive you for what Rex?", the boy asked
Rex gave no response and just stared at the boy
"ANSWER ME" the boy shouted at Rex
The man's tear's stopped again.
"Everything, I wished that you would've been able to live a happy life with me, but thats not possible, that was just my selfishness, you have to settle matters this time, I wish I could explain the situation to you but we don't have the time, the cavalry will be here soon. With this, I've given you everything that should've been yours to begin with, Rex" the man said with a depressing tone.
The man began chanting.
"Libertas non est tua. Flectere ad mea omnis voluntas et actio. Obedire, et flexis ad subjugator (Freedom is not your own. Bend to my every will and action. Obey, and kneel to the subjugator.) I command you to devour my heart, without stopping at any point in time, now come" Rex said in a soft tone.
The boy had no control over his body. His legs were moving on their own, walking towards Rex.
I can't stop moving
He was trying his best to stop his feet from moving, but it was to no avail.
"STOP THIS REX" the boy shouted repeatedly
"I'm sorry but you'll understand in time, I want you to know, that no matter what happens after this, I will always be at your side," Rex said with a look of sadness
The scent of the man's body could be smelt from the boy, it was that of fish. His body reeked of that odor, but before he knew it he had already torn the man's tunic exposing the chest and was biting into him. Tears couldn't stop themselves from falling from the boy's eyes as he took the first bite and Rex began hugging him and patting him on the head as the boy began to devour his body.
"Don't be sad,f........."
The words could not make its way to the boy.
It was like good, fully developed veal, not young, but not yet beef. It was very definitely like that, and it was not like any other meat he had ever tasted... It was mild, good meat with no other sharply defined or highly characteristic taste such as for instance, goat, high game, and pork have.
Before he knew it, he had already consumed Rex's heart and the man laid there dead on the ground and the aura that surrounded him was gone.
