《World Egg》Chapter 5 - Unicorn

Tad opened the door to Jack's wagon and said in a loud voice, "Good evening Jack. How are you doing?"
Jack must have been sleeping. The dingy-looking Unicorn opens one eye and looks at Tad.
"Tad, why do you always do that? I take it you found Samphire's Letter? " projected Jack.
"Yes, we are going to have a group meeting outside at the tables. Samphire wants us to leave and find a safe place. He implied a lot of things. " Tad projected back. Jack and Tad could both use soulmancy to speak. Jack had helped Tad learn and grow his soulmancy power and skills.
"Here, let me show you," said Tad projecting the entire scene from Samphires Letter.
Jack doesn't respond for a few moments as he thinks through what Samphire had said in the letter.
"Well, there goes the easiest job I've ever had… " there is a pause, "Tad, who is that outside the wagon?"
"That is Zanna. She wants to meet you, I know it's late, but we all need to talk outside about Samphire's message, " projected Tad.
"Did you look at her, Tad? " asked Jack.
Tad stared at him for a few moments like a spooked deer.
Jack projected a chuckle, "I mean with soulmancy? She doesn't feel right for a half-fiend. "
"OH, ya. I can't sense much around her. " projected Tad back.
"Did I show you how to look at someone's soul centers? I supposed I didn't. Hang on a second," then Tad was flooded with information, formula, and instruction on how to project energia towards another to sense their soulmancy strength and soul structure.
"She feels half devil or something, but there is something odd with her soul. Has she ever used it? That is one of the issues with half fiends, if they do not use their souls, they shrivel and die. It takes a while, but they turn feral or full chaotic once their soul shrivels, " projected Jack.
"Jack here, this is what I know about her ancestry. " then Tad projected his fight with and the information from the Demon Prince.
There was a lull in the conversation as Jack absorbed and thought about the images and information.
"She is a half succubus? I've never heard of something like that. I assume you know that only male demons can have offspring and only with non-demon females. Even then, it takes a lot of magic to make that happen. Usually some sort of sacrifice of another life, " projected Jack.
"I knew a little but not about the sacrifice part, so there was a sacrifice for Zanna? " asked Tad.
"That is the weird thing. Even weird for magic, something major happened to have a succubus give birth. I expect any answers beyond that you will have to ask the father. Breamas - God of Mischief, Trickery, and Gamblers. Tad do you know anything about him? " asked Jack.
"Just some rumor, how he is always turning up in the oddest places causing mischief for others," said Tad.
"That is some of it. Breamas is one of the few gods that exist in all planes. Nobody is sure if it's the same being or something else, but it is always the same. The only variation is sometimes he is the patron to bards. Oddly he is not the god of thievery or thuggery. Most pantheons have some variation of Breamas, and I once heard it discussed that perhaps it was the same one for all of them. The only other gods like that Tad are the Foci gods, and there are only four of those. Several others do exist in various planes or are like our friend in the Monkey wagon. Scekan is a god of nature but specifically animals. He isn't tied to any one location. And in his case, the more powerful the animal, the more power he gains. This is probably why he is hanging out within the other wagon. He is going to try to spirit those monkeys away at some point to create a more powerful monkey tribe. The more they grow in number, the more powerful Scekan will become as they are magic monkeys as his followers. He has been very quiet since Samphire left. I wonder what he knows about that. It would be best if you asked Scekan when you get a chance. In the meantime, please bring in your friend. " project Jack.

Tad goes to the wagon door and waves Zanna into the wagon. Tad didn't know what to expect. Jack had once told him orcs usually turned up dead around him. He was hoping Zanna wouldn't cause such a response. There was no doubt in Tad's mind Jack could do a lot of damage fast if he had a mind too.
Zanna was outside looking at the wagon's paintings. Jacks had a Stylized Unicorn on his. It wasn't large, but it was well done.
"Zanna, you can come in and meet Jack," said Tad getting her attention.
Zanna followed Tad into the wagon as they shrunk down the size of the wagon, and it became much larger on the inside.
"Zanna, this is Jack, Jack, " Tad did a small hand gesture towards Zanna, "This is Zanna."
Zanna stood there for a moment, "Does he Talk?" asked Zanna, who was starting to look a bit nervous.
"Yes, but he uses projection," said Tad.
"Jack, is everything ok?" projected Tad towards the Unicorn.
"Yes," projected Jack back.
Zanna stopped fidgeting and stood as if entranced for a few moments, then said out loud, "Why would I let you look at my soul Unicorn?" asked Zanna, suddenly sounding a bit hostile.
Zanna looked at Tad, "He wants to scan my soul. He said I'm blocking him. Of course I'm blocking him. Why would I let anyone do that. " she said.
"Oh, he thinks your elf half has a soul, but your demon heritage is causing it to fade. It is probably safe to let him. He has never harmed anyone. He helped me when I was younger. " said Tad.
"This won't hurt her, will it, Jack? " projected Tad to the Unicorn.
"No, but there is more going on here than a simple half-fiend. She was in a genie bottle for a very long time. The atrophy appears to be accelerated. Where half-fiends might have years to fix this, she might only have months or even weeks. I'd like to take a deeper look at the Elvin soul," project Jack back.
Tad nods to Jack and looks back at Zanna, "Zanna, I know it is hard to trust folks you do not know, but please trust me. Jack won't harm you and only wants to help you if he can. He believes because of your curious heritage and you being trapped in the genie spell for so long that your Elvin half might be dying. He isn't trying to read your thoughts or anything like that, but if this half of you fails, you might lose your mind or go feral, as he put it. Nobody here is an expert on demon children, but Jack does understand soulmancy better than anyone I know other than perhaps Samphire, and he isn't here."
Zanna's eyes got wide. Then she squinted at him. Then a myriad of other feelings appeared and left her face. She was clearly having a transformational life moment. Tad watched her and used his soulmancy to sense the turmoil she was going through. It was very hard to read Zanna. He couldn't read demons at all, but he could Zanna sometimes, it appears.
Zanna let out a big sigh, "She was right. "
"What do you mean?" asked Tad.
Zanna took a deep breath, "Catarine, she said I'd have to learn to trust you at some point if I wanted a chance at surviving. She figured other demons, devils, or occultists would come after me now that I was free from the genie bottle. She said I'd have to learn to trust you to help me. " She looked angry at Tad for a few moments, then gave another big sigh.

"Fine, let us do it, but you are going to help Jack. I might trust you, but I do not trust him. Unicorns are not exactly known to be friendly to demons. Even half ones," said Zanna.
Jack projected to Tad with a mental smirk, "She has the right of it, Kid. If she wasn't your friend, I'd have already murdered her and been looking for a hole to dump the body. It's fine. You can come with me. I'll show you what I'm doing. You can tell her about it if you feel like it. "
"Jack said he will show me what he is doing. I'll tell you what we find, if anything. Hang in there; this might feel funny or not funny. I can remember the first time it happened to me. " said Tad.
Tad projected his soulmancy at Jack, and suddenly, he was standing in Jack's soulscape. He had never actually been here before. He thought it would be a glade, but instead, it was a forested valley with a large field of flowers. Jack was standing in the middle, waiting on him.
"Ok Kid, this is going to be a bit of touch at go. She isn't exactly normal, and there is a lot of Chaotic magic in her. " projected Jack.
Tad nodded, "Ok, do I just follow you somehow? "
"No, just watch and user your empathy to feel what I'm doing and how I'm doing it," projected Jack.
Suddenly Jack's soulmancy valley was surrounded by volcanoes and fire, the nearby grass and woods were fine, but the whole scene was moving. They passed over a landscape that looked much like the one surrounding the demon fortress Tad had been trapped in. The sky was red, and the ground was barren of most life, just a few dead weeds here and there. Just as suddenly, the patch of grass they were standing in stopped. The scene was stable. Outside of the grassy area was a giant yellow glowing blob. It looked like a large deflated water bladder or old cabbage with wrinkles all over it, just in white.
"See that, Kid, it is shrinking. See those wrinkles? This soul was once much larger than this. From this perspective, it should be as large as one of the wagons or a small house. Right now, it is half the size, and given the wrinkles, it is withering, as I said. She needs to start using it to make it grow. I'm not sure if she has time for this. You might want to start making plans for the worse," said Jack.
"What do you mean? She is going to lose her soul? " asked Tad.
"Yes, she still has a demonic connection to the deeper planes of the hells. So that half will take over, and this half will disappear. She will become stronger in chaotic magic and probably become a full succubus. If that happens, she will be very dangerous. One moment" said Jack.
Tad could sense Jack probing the large lump that was Zanna's Elvin soul. He was prodding it here and there. It was like pushing on a melon to see if it was ripe at the market, except this was a soul, and the finger was soulmancy.
"It appears at one time she did use the soul. I do not know when she stopped or how she is going to start again. The big part will be her ability to show compassion or empathy for something other than chaos. Half-fiends generally have a mother who nurses them, which is enough to get them into adulthood or adolescents anyway. If they can continue with the bond, they will generally turn out ok. Well, ok for a half-fiend anyway, but this is a half-demon from a mother with whom she never had a bond even at birth. I'm not sure how to even fix such an issue. " projected Jack.
"Jack, how do you know all of this about half-fiends? Are they in the fey planes?" asked Tad.
"No Kid, at one point, I used to own a rather popular pub or bar as it was called. You'd be amazed at how many people come in asking for help from a guy they barely know behind a counter," said Jack.
"Oh, a pub? Why are you in the Carnival then?" asked Tad. If he had an inn or pub, he didn't think he would be in the Carnival.
"It's a long story, Kid. Perhaps someday I'll tell you about it. Right now, though, let's get out of here and go meet Marena. You will have to tell Zanna what you found at some point. You might want to break it to her easily. She isn't going to like the idea of losing her mind or worse. " projected Jack.
Jack projected them back to his soulscape, and Tad stopped his projected avatar connection.
Tad looked at Zanna, who appeared to have more patients than Tad, and she just stood there waiting.
"No immediate danger. You should be good for a little while. Let's go see Marena, " said Tad hoping Zanna would not ask for more detail right now.
Zanna against squinted at Tad. She looked as if she was about to say something, then stopped.
"Great, let's go talk to everyone, " said Tad.

Pure Unadulterated Violence The Pugilist wants to be a different take on isekai shenanigans. What would happen if instead of a moronic idiot, a depressed high schooler, or a wannabe hero the one to get his do-over is a fully grown man that has already seen what life has to offer in full? Someone who conformed himself to society, but has always craved something different? In a journey of self-discovery, academy building, god-slaying, and absolutely no harem we follow someone driven by logic, experience, and a smokey goal: to fuck shit up, have fun while doing so, and maybe resume his career as a professor for those strange, magic-wielding, unstable youths that seems to never get enough of his presence. Guys, a few notes, first of all, this is my first time writing long-form fiction. I have a background in psychology, and my main income comes from writing dreary financial articles on SEO blogs. But after a bad break-up, and finding myself falling asleep only while thinking of deus ex machina for stories on this site (and for APGTE) I decided to try my hand at this web series thingy. I'm confident in my grammar, but that's it. Everything else will be a first time, and as such any constructive criticism is encouraged and gratefully accepted. Now, on the story. Romance will be introduced once my little heart is mended, if you are scared of LGBT you may be turned off by the fact that I plan to have no taboo of any kind in my universe, but I won't ever write detailed sex scenes for any characters so don't worry too much. The litRPG part is very light and will take place later in the novel, but it's a key component nonetheless, for world-building and storyline reasons. I already have everything big planned out, so I won't drop it outta nowhere, and I hope you won't find too many flaws in how things pan out. I plan to make The Pugilist an interactive story, with secondary characters created by my audience and introduced after tweaks and careful planning. The main reason I'm writing this is that I want to build a community for myself in this time of isolation. I discovered that exercising, playing the piano or video games means jack-shit when you are utterly miserable, so I hope to give some value to my readers in exchange for praise, fame, money, and companionship. I give full props to anyone who has read this whole mess of a synopsis: I hope to not disappoint too much, now let's write some more steaming garbage that will be in dire need of editing later on.
