《Child of Terra》Chapter 12- The Mountain

"Muu," sighed Nox as he and his friends were placed within his playroom after he was dressed in a new pair of crimson trousers. For the bath had caused his little body to become far too relaxed, and would be in need of some sort of stimulus in order to get moving once more. The only part of his body that moved was his tails, and they were swishing across the floor slowly whilst his eyes looked into the twins' own.
"Muu," replied Maya and Mia in their new dresses, as they swished their own tails in response whilst the last member of the group simply yawned and waved at their persons.
"That was really good, Nox," mumbled Anasi, who then looked about himself with a worrying curiosity, "Why am I shiny?" Indeed, for the lower body of the Arachne looked more like a dark carapace, than the mat black body of a spider.
"Bath," drawled out the young hybrid, of whom flopped onto his back with paws splayed outwards. Whereupon the Arachne exuded a small sigh just as Mia crawled over to their friend with a small yip.
"Play?" she asks slowly, with eyes widened as her muzzle nuzzled against Nox's. Of whom reached out with his paws and grappled the other kit. Whereupon they did yip and bark as the pair tumbled this way and that, coming closer to Maya. Her eyes widened as this occurred, and did her best to run away, but was pulled into the play fighting which lasted until the ball of fur journeyed towards Anasi.
Here, he noted such a thing, and leapt away towards the closest wall where he climbed up the side with arms crossed as he stared down upon the trio. "I'm not going to be a part of that again," his voice was low as the trio came apart to stare up at their friend on the wall with tails swishing back and forth across the floor, "Nuh-uh."
To which the trio stared at one another, closed their eyes, and snickered amongst one another. For just as they did so, did that which was within the room activate, transforming the world about them into a rocky mountain. This caused the Arachne, who was now in the air, to flail about as he fell half a metre to the ground with an, "Oof."
"Come on," called out Nox, as the friends witnessed a golden light envelope their persons, transforming their persons into adults once more. Of which they now wore the same climbing gear from a few weeks ago, but colour coded. The hybrid's own gear was of a dark crimson, Maya's was of a light blue, Mia's a bright pink, and Asani's a dull brown.

The one in the bright pink, Mia, hugged Nox's right arm as he grinned and pet her head. Of which caused her tail, which was normally three, to swish happily as he ears perked up a bit. Whereas the other twin helped up the now older Arachne to his spindle-like feet, and puffed up her cheeks as she noted her sister receiving so much attention. This led to her rushing in front of their persons, demanding the same treatment as her sister. Yes. It was given, much to the chagrin of the other twin who demanded more.
"Why are we here, Nox?" sighed Anasi as he strode over to his friend's side. This simple inquiry caused the trio to stop in their antics whilst watching the other, which then caused the twins to look up at the older hybrid with great curiosity.
"I wanted to climb that," his voice spoke slowly as his right forepaw pointed towards a large mountain which sprung up ahead of them, "We haven't climbed in a while, and I thought it'd be fun."
"Too high," shivered Mia as she hid behind his person with a shiver.
"Looks like fun," grinned Maya as she flexed what little muscles she had, and strode forwards in order to begin climbing. However, upon reaching the base, did she stop when she gripped the first ledge. To which she did turn to face Nox with a look of confusion upon her features. "Nox? It's too soft; not hard."
"Huh?" Nox scampered over to his friend's side and gripped the ledge, also finding it far too soft than one that was supposed to be of stone. Air slowly escaped his body in a, "Huh," as he poked the stones, only to find them to be quite hard, "Weird... Let's avoid it for now, okay? We can always investigate it later."
After speaking such words did he lead the other towards another part of the mountain before them. Whereupon he began to climb for a few moments before turning around to see Anasi carrying Mia upon his back. The Fox-girl had a look of triumph, whilst the male was not at all amused at being used as a horse for the other.
This scene was not well received by the hybrid, nor by the other's twin, and called her a "cheater", or simply whining about it "not being fair". Whereas the other simply stuck out her tongue and wrapped her arms around the Arachne's waist as he continued to climb slowly. Which led to the hybrid sighing as he climbed up a sheer cliff on his side, whilst Maya followed suit, placing her fore and hindpaws where he had stuck his as they continued onward.

No. There was nothing about their persons. Not trees, animals, nor any reall danger. For such a thing was not allowed with the children present. That is, not until they were much older, when the Ageless gives the okay for such a thing. This was simply due to the Laws of Terra, which holds sway over all territories and worlds within the Terran Pantheon. Amongst such laws are ones that state what children can and cannot do, as well as what they must perform within an age range.
For example, if a child is below the age of eight cycles, then they are not allowed to perform any sort of hard labour unless they specifically say so. Of course, such scenarios require a Judge present in order to pass off on such actions, as they are the most susceptible to doing many things at a young age. Therefore, there is a need for those with authority to be present in order to make sure that that child desires to be in such situations.
However, for those who do not wish to be a part of such excursions, then they are required to simply be children. Which is just as it sounds. They are each to run, jump, play, and imagine themselves in various scenarios that doesn't end with them injured. Though it does occur on many occasions, they are told, often, to avoid such play times that would end with them becoming hurt.
Ah, but there are many laws concerning children on what they can and cannot do. As well as some that revolve around child bullies. For adults are treated harshly, whilst those of a young age are not. That is, until they go through three strikes and are seen as an adult by the Judges. Then such consequences are just as hard for one who is actually of age. In this case, three Judges from different parts of Terra are called in to pass judgment over the offender. Such a thing is necessary in order for the verdict to be unbiased.
In any case, the children themselves were nearing the top of the mountain. However, there was a bit of an issue, as Mia had somehow slipped off Anasi's back and was trying to get to her person when Nox and Maya appeared. The latter were frantic as they did their best to reach for the other twin.
"Hang on," called out the hybrid as the other two grabbed onto his tails as he inched over the side of a ledge and towards their friend. Of whom had the expression of panic plastered all over her features as she scrambled to hold onto the rocky outcropping.
"I'm trying," she mewed pitifully as her paws clutched at a few stones embedded into the mountain.
Whereas her sister glared at the male Arachne with daggers in her eyes, "What happened," she shouted at his person, not at all pleased that such an event occurred.
"I don't know," his head shook quickly as he manipulated his webbing around Nox's waist so that they only had to hold onto this instead of his tails, "One minute she was hugging my waist, the next she was screaming for help." The explanation caused the other to growl and grind her teeth as she was told to grab his webs whilst they slowly lowered their friend towards a weakening Mia.
However, just as he was within striking distance of the girl, did she let loose a scream as her strength gave way. Yes. She did fall, but instead of towards a gruesome death, that which was within the room shut off mid-scream, revealing a large "mountain" of pillows. Of which Mia fell upon with a muffled, "Oof."
"Mia," called out the young hybrid as he tore through the webbing around his body, and fell upon a pillow next to the other's. Whereupon he did scramble over his obstacle, leaping onto her own, and hugged her person to his small chest. "Are you okay?" His voice was still in a panicking state, but was slowly calming down once his person noted that she was shaking greatly as her body clung to his own.
"That was so sceh-wee," she cried with great streams of salty tears leaking from the corners of her eyes. Whereas Nox started rocking her person slowly as the other two came closer.

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The Unified States of Mana
My name is Kyra Baker, I’m 20 years old and a university student, and recently I’ve been offered a scholarship to a definitely-not-shady magical academy. A ‘support device’ I was given shows me a list of classes I can take, all involving mana, magic, and Skills with a capital S. To get there I was lumped into a ship full of strange and alien creatures, jumping between worlds as we pick up more and more hapless ‘students’. Things were starting to make a little sense, until the ship crashed into an alien world. Now, I might be getting trained as a rebel soldier, or something? Looking on the bright side, I haven’t gotten this much exercise in a long time and there are plenty of cute girls around. When I develop some Skills and work on my classes, maybe I’ll become strong enough to actually have the time to flirt with them. ~ One of the few surviving records thought to be written by the Empress before her rise to power. Mark of the Lash
Born from a precarious relationship between a Drow and his prize, Serena Lash struggles to find her place, and herself, as she fights to persevere through the hardships life throws her way. A story born from a D&D game I am currently a part of. The narrative will follow the events of the campaign as closely as possible, with some events having been tweaked to better fit into a written story. A slow burn, the narrative does skip around a bit due to the nature of the campaign, considering that not everything in the game needs to be written about. This will begin to peter out the further the story progresses, but for the first parts, expect a bit of skipping!
