《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 21

(Aug 22 Continued)
William Vs another A ranker was next and this match was quick.
William's opponent was a new A ranked, although A ranks are all strong, the opponent was an A ranked who had only recently become an A ranked.
As you go up in ranks(C, B, A, S and so on), the difference in power within the same rank grows and the power between ranks also grow.
For example a strong B ranked could probably defeat around 5 other weak B ranked at the same time while a strong A ranked could defeat around 10 other weak A ranked at once.
It gets harder and harder to rank up as you continue to rank up.
Not only that but William had the advantage as the new A ranker opponent was a martial artist so he was good at close combat but William was long ranged and could snipe him with spells and magic from afar.
As such a veteran A ranker like William was leaps and bounds above a new A ranker despite being the same rank.
Don't get me wrong, the newbie A ranker was still super strong, much stronger then me but nowhere near William, Briggs or Cornelia's level.
When the match started, William instantly summoned a magic storm in the air, clouds gathered and it rained down ice bolts striking the entire field.
The A ranked martial artist tried to run towards William but two ice spears materialized in the air and shot towards him and he was forced to dodge, which allowed William to widen the distance by jumping back.
This battle continued raging on, with William shooting magic spells and the martial artist attempting to get closer but failing to, however I suddenly felt a chill go down my back...
I was feeling uneasy all of a sudden, my dragon instincts are telling me something is wrong...

I looked around but nothing was out of the ordinary, so I assumed it was just nothing and I tried to ignore it, even if something did happen, there were many strong A rankers who could subdue any trouble.
When I looked back at the battle, I realized it was already over.
William had frozen the entire field into an frozen iceland and his opponent was trapped by ice and there were hundreds of ice spears and ice spikes pointing at him, ready to pierce and stab him the moment he moved.
The guy declared his surrendered and admitted defeat, after all there was nothing he could do anymore.
The ice slowly melted away and the field returned to normal without a single drop of water left... it all vanished and evaporated perfectly.
The next battle also ended quite quickly, it was an the A ranked assassin from before during one of the matches against another B ranker. Assassins were quick and most of their battles ended in an instant or with a single strike, and so this match didn't even last 2 minutes before the A ranked assassin knocked out the B ranker.
After that was the A ranked archer, who I fought against before in the group battles, versus another A ranker.
The battle started and the archer shot multiple lightning arrows at the other A ranker, I didn't know what the other A rankers class was but after watching a bit I think he's a mage as well.
He had summoned a wall of dirt in front of him and two stone golems rose on each of his sides, they were both massive but they were slow and the A ranked earth mage had to control both of them at once.
This guy seemed a bit weaker then William in terms of combat and offensive power, however he still held the advantage against the A ranked archer because the archer used thunder and lightning but since the mage was an earth mage, lightning had little effect against dirt and earth.

The elemental match up was bad for the archer but good for the mage.
The archer would shoot arrows that would curve and bend around the air like birds flying but they were stopped by dirt walls and stone spikes.
The two stone golems jumped and caused a mini earthquake that made the archer's accuracy lower and a bunch of mud bullets were shot towards the archer.
The archer nimbly dodged the mud shots, although some of them nearly hit her and the archer loaded six thunder arrows and shot them.
The 6 arrows flew through the air and bended and turned in 90 degree angles many times as it traveled towards the mage but it easily blocked by the mage creating a small dome made of stone around him.
By now the stone golems had gotten closer to the archer and they swung at her, the archer was strong but her pure destructive force was quite weak, she had strong lightning arrow attacks but since lightning was bad against earth and ground magic, she was almost useless in this situation and she realizes that as she was sweating profoundly.
Not gonna lie, I felt a little satisfied after seeing her losing after what she did to me... just a tad bit happy... so what if I'm a bit petty.
The match soon ended after the archer raised both of her hands and admitted defeat.
The crowd cheered and the loud noise made me feel sick again, my mind felt a little dizzy and wobbly now, plus the fact my dragon senses are feeling uneasy for some reason.
I felt a little sick so I excuses myself and headed to the washroom for now, I washed my face and looked at myself in the mirror.
I realized that I hadn't looked at myself properly in a while and that I've really changed, I think I look more handsome now if I do say so myself.
My skin was a bit scaly and has small red scales here and there on my body and my muscles were a lot harder, my eyes had also changed to a reddish color and the round pupil in my eyes were turning into slits like a dragon's eyes were.
I was slowly turning into a monster... a good looking monster though.
I took a deep breath and calmed my nerves, I must've been nervous because I will be fighting Briggs soon... Briggs... I've never beat him before... I'm gonna have to go all out, using my dragon powers to it's maximum output.
I took a deep breath again, stabilized my inner energy and headed back to my seat.

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.

Infested
One billion people from one hundred thousand universes have been dropped onto a singular planet five times larger than Earth. In the corner of their eye were three numbers: 1,000,000,000. 15. 10. Nobody could figure out what it meant until fifteen years after the initial transportation, as out of the blue, a message repeated itself in their minds for twenty-four hours. “Only ten can return. The rest will die. There is no time limit,” Following the global message, genocides ran rampant, with established friendships broken, families ripped apart, blood alliances betrayed, and leaders felled in seconds. How? [The Evgnomon] The Beholden; hidden throughout the realm were artefacts: weapons, information, tools from beings and societies of a higher plane. It was up to the humans to scour the land and take them by hook or by crook if they ever wished to go back. Whisked into this world as a mere babe, I suppose it was lucky I didn’t die in the chaos. But as I stare into the rotten, tattered pages of the accursed book laid upon the pedestal in front of me; and the unnerving gaze of our professor trained onto the back of my head silently pressuring me to become the avatar of grotesques unspeakable and undecipherable to the human mind. O, how I wish I did...
