Chapter 8 – World at War

Just half an hour after the transmission by LEGION reports of attacks on many European cities came in. The enemy used the UK as a staging area and launched an invasion into northern France. Drake moved his garrison troops to intercept the LEGION Army, but the troops were stalled because of orbital bombardment by American military satellites.

To counter that, Drake gave the order to destroy them to his two functional spaceships. Several more were finished and had to do quite some testing but Drake wanted them in orbit Regardless. Just as he wanted to give out the order to activate him, Zara stormed in.

[Master! The space docks here in France were captured by groups of enemy soldiers!](Zara)

[Shit! We have to recapture them immediately.](Drake)

Drake pulled back a division of his clone soldiers to recapture the space docks. At first everything went well, but Drake soon discovered that the attacks against the space docks were just diversions, when the attacks against the garrisons in Northern France grew more intense by the day. Drake even had to activate project MechWarrior and deploy all 200 stationed in France to hold them at bay.

Over the course of weeks, the Empire´s Navy had, with reinforcement of the recaptured spaceships, managed to established orbital superiority. That at first went without losses, but as they tried to board the ISS, they discovered, that it was taken over by LEGION and had undergone significant upgrading and refitting to be able to defend itself. When the finally managed to destroy the ISS, the Empire´s Navy had lost three of its newest spaceships.

With the orbital superiority, Drake managed to beat the LEGION back out of France. The Empire´s clone troopers even had managed to take some enemy soldiers prisoner, but after some time their heads suddenly exploded and the body started burning.

With the situation mostly under control, drake started to simultaneously build giant plasma cannons to fortify the shores of France and prepare an Invasion force against the UK to strip the LEGION off their foothold in Europe.

Meanwhile Drakes spies reported to him, that the LEGION launched a surprise attack against Japan and South Korea, which was renamed to the Korean Federation, who called their alliance the Pacific Defense Coalition. The Coalition fared pretty well, but would still be overwhelmed in the future because of its Technological disadvantage.

Drake sent his troops in eastern Russia and some advanced weaponry to help them after he forged an alliance with the Coalition. Drake used this opportunity to visit in person and brainwash some of the influential People of the Coalition and take them over.

Just two weeks after the alliance was announced, the Coalition officially requested to be annexed into the Empire. That was obviously the result of Drakes Brainwashing. Soon the war in the Pacific came to a stalemate when Empire forces tried to invade Hawaii but were beaten in a sea battle on the coast. The LEGION had replaced conventional weapons on their warships with Laser Cannons which could rip the Empire´s Navy apart with just one hit.

The invasion of the UK was an utter disaster too. The invasion fleet hadn´t even left port jet, when they were hit by long-range Lasers. The LEGION had taken over the entire American continent and even India had taken up their side. Several reports of LEGION invasions in Africa reached Drake and LEGION Soldiers were pouring into Russia through Kazakhstan.

In late 2019 the Pacific Defense Coalition was overrun and the LEGION was pushing into Russia. After some initial success against The Indian LEGION soldiers, Empire forces had to retreat to the base in western Poland, were they built Defensive positions to stall the LEGION.

That was when they first encountered the Legions new weapon, an apparently autonomous Battle-Droid. It didn´t matter how many clones the bases could pump out, there were always more Droids. Drake even had more cloning and weapons manufacturing facilities built.

On January first 2020 Drake received an SOS massage from the base in Northern France. They were attacked by Battle-Droids, which were fired by a device in the UK into Empire territory. Worried Drake had his slaves retreat into the base in Germany. He gave the command to stock the base with extra Fusion Generators and had the Latest prototype of the energy shield installed there.

When Drake himself retreated to the base one week later, it was obvious that France would fall in a matter of days, while Poland was overrun two hours before. The Empire´s Navy had been attacked from the Ground by Laser fire and had lost every single Space ship.

On the way to the base in Germany he was attacked several times by the LEGION and had lost most of his escort, but came relatively safe to his destination were his Slaves were already waiting.

[Master, I have finished installing the shield Prototype.](Zara)

[Master, I have finished installing the additional Fusion Generators and some extra industrial grade Replicators.](Mara)

[Master, I have prepared the base defenses for a prolonged Siege. Even without the energy shield we could hold out for months, with it I’m pretty sure we can defend this place for a minimum of two years.] (Tara)

[Ok, now that all preparations are finished, bring the remaining troops in the area into the base and power up the shield.](Drake)

Just one hour later everything was in place and Drake gave the order to overlade the Fusion Reactors in his bases, which were overrun by the LEGION. The resulting explosion would devastate everything in a radius of 700km.

Even the German base was in the radius and would be destroyed if they would not power up the shield.

Drake was watching the outside over a video feed, when after several minutes a bright lightning appeared on the horizon. After approximately ten minutes, he could see the shockwave rolling over the landscape. The nearby towns, which were still fully populated, were crushed. What little was still standing, was melted by the immense heat, the plasma was radiating. Drakes plan was to rebuild all that with bigger and better cities, should he come out of this alive and win the war.

When the shockwave and the plasma hit the energy shield, it was sucking more power than predicted. Mara had to activate all additional fusion Reactors except one. The Reactors were all overloading, after they managed to keep the shield operational for half an hour. At the moment they couldn’t keep up their plasma containment fields, a bright light stunned everyone in the base and knocked them simultaneously unconscious .
