Quod Venetus or QV for short, the greatest virtual reality game ever created and funnily enough also the name of the company. With a realism of 99% you can really start a new life in a land of swords and magic.
Its release next week is said to be the launch of the VR game to end all VR games.

Buzzzt, Buzzzt.
In a certain room of a certain orphanage in a certain town a bump could be seen stirring under its almost non-existent bed sheets.
Buzzzt, Buzzzt.
"Will you stop that infernal racket! Some of us are trying to sleep here!", someone shouted through the thin plaster walls of the orphanage. A hand responding to the shout shot out of the bed sheets and slammed into the alarm with absolutely no trace of precision, knocking it off the bedside table and onto the floor with a loud bang.
Following the example of its arm the 'bump' followed and groggily got out of bed. Looking down with its dark brown eyes at the time on the alarm clock that read 4:30 am the 'bump' ,which now from its warm sheet home could be seen as a young boy of around 14, spoke,'YAAaaaAWNn, wait. 4:30am... I'M LATE!'.
With the speed of a cheetah the boy shot out of bed and changed into his second set of clothes (that were not his bed clothes) and ran out of the room after picking up his wallet slamming the door behind him. Running down to the ground floor of the orphanage the boy opened the front door and ran out into the early morning light.
---
At approximately 6:00 am the boy, whose dark brown shoulder-length hair could be seen in the morning light of the rising sun, turned the corner onto the main street. Usually the main street was empty until around 10:00 am with the majority of shops and restaurants opening around then.

However on this particular day something unusual could be seen. A queue the length of the whole street (around a mile long) and repeating itself could be seen leading up to a single stand. Although it didn't look like much, this stand which was heavily guarded by police was the one selling the new game Quod Venetus (QV) and its corresponding VR headset and console.
Knowing about the game for a few years the boy had planned to buy it since and in order to do so the boy had been working part time jobs in order to barely get the needed amount.
Walking over to the end of the ginormous line the boy heard some cheering. It seemed that they had started selling copies of QV. After selling a few the mood of the whole queue got a lot better everyone was looking forward to getting their copy.
After finding his spot in the queue or to be more precise, as the last person after a copy got into the queue the long process of waiting began.
Some of these people had been in the queue for weeks in order to be first to get their copy and it seems that was the way to go as there would be a huge wait ahead of him.
---
14 hours later.
---
Finally it was the last person in the queue, the boy.
"Next.", the women at the stall spoke tiredly. The boy walked up to the stall.
After a brief glance at the boy filled with pity the women stood, bowed and then apologized, "I and those of us at Quod Venetus wish to express our deepest apologies as we are out of copies of the games and consoles."
"What?! I waited in this queue for fourteen hours and this is what I get?!", the boy shouted in disbelief. "Yes as I said we are extremely sorry.", the women said whilst bowing again.

"Isn't there anything you can do?", pleaded the boy tears forming in his eyes. It was an understandable reaction if you consider that he did nothing but wait in line for 14 hours.
"I suppose we can do something, but... It might not be what your after."
"It is! It is!"
"Well, o-kay."
The women ducked behind the counter and a moment later she came back up with an ordinary box. After a while of rummaging the women brought of a copy of Quod Venetus in a dirty case and a broken looking VR headset and console. Looking around and making sure no one was near enough to her the women whispered.
"Now look here kid, I never wanted to be a saleswomen I always wanted to be working on the consoles themselves. This is a copy of the original Quod Venetus made by me, so I can assure you that it works perfectly, now because it's a copy I'll give it to you for a quarter of the price. What'd you say, 200 dollars!"
Although this saleswomen lost all of her original charm and this whole situation screamed of a scam the boy somehow still handed over the money for the woman's copy and managed to get back to the orphanage with a snack before 10:00pm.
---
After getting back and shutting himself in his room the boy immediately set up the console, inserted the game and put the headset on and after lying on his hard bed he shouted, "Activate Quod Venetus!", and everything turned white.

Tower of Babel: Speedrunner
Launch day. That was what they called it. The day when over four million people vanished in an instant from the island of Manhattan. The day earthquakes ravaged the east coast. The day every screen, newspaper, and smart phone displayed a single message from an unknown source: The Great Emperor has issued his challenge. From the ruins of the Old World rise the Tower. Its doors will soon open, and the great game will begin. A hundred floors and a hundred challenges await the worthy. And to the victor? A Wish of Unlimited Power. Cayden Caros yearned to play that game. His only problem? The Terms and Conditions. A strict set of rules that, among other things, prevented anyone under the age of sixteen from entering the tower. Forced to wait for over two years, Cayden did the only thing he could do to pass the time. He researched, he practiced and he prepared. It would take a lot to catch up to players with such an enormous head start. Lucky for him, he was a special type of gamer. A SpeedRunner So.... It has been a hot minute. I don't like talking about my personal life, but suffice to say I had some fairly bad times for the last couple of years and have only just recently pulled myself back to good health, physically and mentally. I have a very supportive partner, and am put together enough that I want to get back to doing what I love. Writing nerd fiction that I am too embarassed to try to explain when people inevitably ask what my books are about. Still beats when I used to write erotica. Story updates for book 3 should be on a daily schedule, baring unforseen circumstances. The majority of chapters from books one and two have been pulled down to keep with amazon's KU rules. Book one is found here. Book two is found here. If you like the story, please comment or favorite. Each comment goes a long way towards pushing visibility for the story, which means more people get to see it and I feel slightly more validated as a writer. I have a discord now where you can ask me things and I can be like 'no. no. I'm not answering that. no."
