《A Blank Tale》Chapter 2 - Fateful Encounter

No identity. No money. It wasn't a surprise, but a miracle that I was not kicked out of the country. Although I was allowed to stay due to the guarantee of the people who delivered me, but gone was the life of luxury, gone was my identity, and gone was my future.
In order to make a living, for the next 2 years, I took on many, many odd jobs including Dish washer, caretaker, lifter, and more. Of course at first, I was not used to it, so I had on many occasions been fired. I had to live on the streets, and did my best to find any volunteer work that would provide me even a single meal. You ask why I haven't fallen into prostitution? My morals doesn't let me, and no one bother to come bother me with the way I looked. Due to being malnourished and the failure to treat my already damaged skin, my skins sagged which made me look like an old granny. Even the druggies down the street I sleep on turned the other way after the first attempt at mugging the penniless me. Skinny, penniless, weak, and ugly. No one wanted me.
Being rejected by the world, I had thought of suicide, but my heart could not bear to give up on my life, especially when I know she is living too well. I would scavenge the old newspaper nearly everyday to take a look at the very popular news about the new miss and CEO of the new corporation, made from the assets of my parents. Rich, powerful, beautiful, and being supported by a mysterious fiance. Everything that anyone could wish for, everything that I could have had. Although I was jealous and angry, but with my current state, I knew I could not fight that. Hence, I had given up for a time while beginning to consider suicide, but before I was able to take action on my suicidal thoughts, I saw news along with the face of the fiance on the newspaper. His name was Ye Nan Ke. As for how he looked? Handsome? Yes, enough to keep my heart because he was the spitting image of the one in my heart. It was him.

At that point, my tears flowed as my heart clenched. Is it destiny? The one who saved me was my future, but now he's not my future any longer. It was all because of the her that popped out of nowhere. I do not know her real name, but she is currently taking on mine, and I envy about all that I should have had. Not just my envy, but my fury exploded as the fuel for me to live. My only thoughts were to stand strong and ruin her life, even at the cost of my own. That will be what my life will be for.
Except, it was harder said than done. As one who is stuck at the bottom, there was a high likelihood that I will be stuck down here until the end of my life. Sudden strikes of rich or power? That's fantasy. Reality is harsh and one will not know how harsh until one experiences it.
But maybe my life is a fantasy because my chance came out of nowhere in the most desirable form. I was just heading to my sleeping corner after a hard day of work one day, but gun shots grabbed my attention. Although I ignored them because it was pretty common in the neighborhood where I lived, today was different because I met him once again. Blood stained suit while staggering along, he ended up passing out on my bed. I could hear the pursuit of his enemies, and before I knew it, I hid him deeper into my card board bed made with plastic bags and one worn-out quilt. I then soaked up some of his blood with my ragged shirt and rung it out in a dripping trail, leading out of my alley and into the busy area of nightlife. I then ran back before his pursuers came, sat in front of the lump of his body, and pretended like I was going to nap. Then, his pursuers came. I was the obvious person to interrogate, and interrogate they did. Slamming my weak self against the wall, the pursuers glared at me as they questioned where he went. Of course frightened little me glanced at the blood trail and they took the hint. Fortunately, they left right after to pursue, but unfortunately, I was rewarded a deep stab in my stomach because I've seen who they are.

I was left to die. They didn't have any doubts about it, nor did I. Based on my frail, near death appearance, it was highly likely that I would perish through bleeding out my already scarce blood. But he kept me alive. I know he's there, so I willed myself not to sleep even though my vision was fading. I told myself that if I sleep, then no one will come to save him. Although my brain is telling me to rest because it's so painful, my heart is telling me that I must live to see that he lives. My life is already his, I don't have the leisure to complain about mere pain.
I don't know how much time had passed, but the pursuers did not come back. Instead, in my darkened vision, I saw her. Although my vision was impaired, I am still able to recognize her, the one that took my everything. Is this fate? Perhaps if this was any other time, I would decline to get her attention unless I'm ending her; however, I know that he can not last. Hence, with some muffled noise and a light struggle with flipping the cover I placed on him, I revealed him to her. My heart clenched at the thought of doing a favor for her, but my heart relaxed afterwards at the thought that he will be fine. Anything is good as long as he's fine. After taking my last look at him, I slowly closed my eyes for a peaceful rest. The real Xiang He Ai has completed her duty.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
