《The call in the night, OneShots collection》Anarchy

The mountains were high and the forest were wild. Animals roamed the lands freely, men had to be strong, men had to endure. Hunts were long, food scarce. Long winter and too short spring and summer. Of my twelve childreens only six reached 5, only four made through the brutal trials that separate a boy from a man, and only three became members of the tribe. At every moment an animal, a beast could come, at every moment an illness or a fever could incapacitated you, you were as good as dead by that point. That was how live was, live was hard, live was short, life was intense, life was free.
Then they came to this land.
Men wearing metal plates and armor, sword of fine facture and steel. They were not warriors, atleast not all of them. They came here with fine specches they offered us a great many things. They say that they prefered such thing as “speach” and “diplomacy”. They promised us riches and liberty for a little price. That they be granted establishment here.
Most men go insane when they hear promises of gold or power, most of us voluntary submited. Submited to the tyrant of steel and speech for a house and some clothes, gave away their freedom and for a piece of bread and a roof were to live. And so the old ways started to dissapear.Weaklings.
And one after the otherltribes fell under their spell, with time the old laws of elders and nature went away, replaced by much more dubious and inefficient laws. Now law wasn’t something that each one knew, the law wasn’t what was right or just. The law was a code, a code to be interpetred and applied by a particular elitè of people to all other. And what did this code said? Who knows! If three judges were send to decide what punishment an hungry man who robbed an apple must endure one would let the man thief slip away, “the man was hungry” he would say. Another would say that even though the man was hungry he needed a punishment anyway, an humilitation maybe. Another would say to cut his hand, thief is a vicious crime, no matter the circumstances.

And so time went by, now our bellies were full, now our houses were warm, the cold night was far, illness wasn’t so fatat, but this came at a price...a tremendous one. No one was truly free anymore. All had submited, voluntary or involuntary, to the governent, as they like to call themself. It exhorted money from his citiziens and drafted man for far away war, it decided how children should be educated, it decided how work should be administrate.
“It’s the law” I hear say “It’s the law and you must obey it. What would happen if the law was broken?” what a feeble non-sense! Laws had lost man measure to them, they become something abstract and far! If a law is wrong you have the duty of breaking it! But like dull sheeps they bow their heads to the tyrants, happy to be wiped, happy to be given back a little part of what was rightly theirs. And as tradition died, replace by a new degenerate one, the old culture lay dying. Our youth grew weak and spoil, far from earth and nature, far from the ways of old.
When I was fourteen I was abbandon in the woods, left alone to defend myself against everything that would come for me. It was a brutal struggle. Many said that it was the closest thing to the netherworld here. Many boys died, that was true. But that teached me how to survive, how to be a man, how to endure lives struggle. What modern boys learn? What do they have? This thing called school? An exam to do? But please! I see them grow more weak and nocile each day! The goverment wants them weak and nocile and people are becoming weak and nocile for making it happy. Monstruous!
But people didn’t lament, only the elder did, and the elder died quickly. People were happy in their enslavement, people were happy to become weak and miserable while the old ways died. There was not a wind of rebellion, not a trace of disense. People venerate the goverment and golden things as sacred and godly, as inviolable and always just. For one good that the goverment did he also did three evils. Their amministration, their hierachy, their systems and laws…everything was added up to create a horrible macchine, one in which man was lost. My tribe was composed of individuals, individuals composed the tribe, those individuals were strong and prosperous so the tribe was strong and propserous.

Today this so called “state” is not compose of individuals, is an abstract thing, is just a marionete played by some guys in a land far away that we never saw.
So I waited for the time, dettaching myself from it, I waited for the moment when I could finally strike, when I could cut the head of their chieftan.
And the moment arrived. One season a harsh winter arrived, there was no food, people were hungry, people became angry. All the sudden people revolted under the cry of liberty. I was there amist the revolt, he was there looking at the angry mob ragging through the streets. I trow my spear, and for heaven sends I nearly hitted him. The spear was so close that he could use it to relax his head! No I won’t let him live! I picked my axe and charged at him. His guards couldn’t stop me, he couldn’t stop me, a quick strike, a blow, a crack, and his head was opened, his skull cracked , he was dead!
That night was a night of glory for our tribe, the edifice of evil were cut down, the new temples destroyed, those “school” burned to the ground, the paper of the libraries gave much compusable to the flames! The new uniform were burn. Our glorious lineage was reborn! All song hyms to liberty and freedom!
Our children had to be re-educate, new chiefs and elder were appointed, and there was a problem. Our population had doubled and without commerce or trade we couldn’t sustain ourself. “No problem!” I said to them “they have food, the food that we need!”
We raid a place, just enough for survive, then another for surving a little bit better, and another for surviving with tranquility, then another and another. Soon we were on a rampage! Burning and pillaging everything that came on our paths! No army could stop us, no place was too defended! Riches and womens came to us. My people celebrated me as a hero! Theie glorious warlord!
…
But people! Damn people! Some said that this was savagry, that the old system was better, that we should keep some of the old istitutions, that some things were better, that I should calm down. Non-sense! Everything related to those parasites has to burn to the barrack to those strange moving things with wind near river and camps called mills. Everything. The old ways had to return
But they were discontent, now they couldn’t keep a street clean! Now they had freedom, the freedom that I loung for so long and they were hating it! They said that I was a barbarian, that I was violent. Some went away, many didn’t. I became the great chieftain of the tribe.
But at last when the mountains became unclimbable again, high as the gods and the forest wild and untraversable a woman, yes a woman, told me I was wrong, she told me that this anarchy was damaging everyone, that we need laws, and if not laws, atleast a code of conduit or ethic. Ethic? What does ethic means! Those blattand words of those scum! I told her to get back in line. She told me that she wouldn’t. I told her that I would kill her, that I would break his spine and cut his head. She told me that I could do that, but another one would come. Suddently everyone was starring at me, with angry eyes, hungry eyes. She told me to leave. Ungratefull bastard!
So me, a hero! The magnitude the tribe has never seen in centuries was banned, was beaten, was hated, was made to endure shame! Because of what? Because I destroyed a system that was “working well, causing uncalculable suffering and famine” Non-sense, non-sense, idiots, idiots! And even when this fire will burn me I will scream from the netherworld, IDIOTS!
The end
